My great, great grandfather Henry Hopkins Sibley (B. General of the Army of New Mexico), invented this tent. A wonderful invention still. Originally, it would be used in conjunction with the Sibley stove placed in the center of the dwelling.

That is so very cool ! I've been looking at pictures of the original drawings for his single-pole tipi with no guy lines, but I can't find any pictures of how the stove fits into the bottom center of the tipi. It looks like the center pole forms a tripod at its base. Maybe the iron stove goes under that center tripod. Would the stovepipe itself just form the center pole? If you know anything about that, I'd love to hear it or see a picture. This tent is perfect for windy areas! Thanks!
@@foodparadise5792 lol the tent fell out of service with the army around WWI. Any royalties or anything were passed to my grandfather I believe, and are long gone I think. Ive never seen any money anyway. And I have two brothers also.
@@davidbutler1825 I was shown some old sketches by my father years ago now that I think about it, but he's been ill for a few years now and im unable to ask him where they are. I should try and look for them though. As far as the tent itself goes, im not too knowledgeable about the actual mechanics involved bud.

Hi, they are round = very aerodynamic. The sizes 300, 400, 450 and 500 can basically handle anything you throw at them. The 600, 700 and 800 can handle a lot more wind than any other tent that size but some caution is advised. Cheers.

I have lots of family living in my house and want a good sized tent to be able to keep up all summer till winter, to hangout with friends inside of it! I'm going to be getting the 400 deluxe and living in the Pacific Northwest. I noticed some mold accumulated on the outside of the 500 is there anything coating wise, spray on or whatnot, that I should use to help eliminate this? Or is there any advice that you could offer as to maintenance for such a wet climate. I only ask because I will be going out and about for approximately the next year or so. Thanks.

How does this tent hold up in high wind storms?
Very well. The conical shape of of the tent and the low side walls shed wind. We have more information on how Sibley's perform in different conditions on our website's FAQ page at canvascamp.us. Proper pitching is important, a tight, securely staked tent is a strong tent.
