Yaesu FT-891: Working Split Frequency (TX & RX different)
Вставка

- This video shows how to set up the FT-891 to work a split. Split is when the station you are listening to is receiving on a different frequency than their transmit frequency. I show two different methods that can be used to enable split-frequency operation. I also show the menu setting that makes it easy to start split-frequency operation.

Every time I watch one of these videos I always learn something about my radio that I didn't know before. Keep up the good work 👍
Thank you! I’m glad to help.

I learn something every time I watch one of your videos. Had my 891 for a year now. It’s one of my favorite rigs.
The FT-891 doesn’t get proper credit. It is a boss. There is a video that the Patreon team is watching at the moment that shows the FT-891 in my truck receiving CW on 30 meters like a boss, using the ATAS-120A antenna.

Yeah I’ve been keeping up with those. I run an ATAS on my truck with the 891 but I’m in the process switching it out with a heavy Breedlove antenna mount and a Tarheel 75A.
Super helpful! I realize as a mobile station, it’s not likely I can get W8S but they were using a 20khz split and the Clarifier stops just short of a 10khz difference. I’m chasing Mobile DXCC so every little bit helps. Tnx de WB3CFN!
I’m glad you like the video and found it helpful.
Thank you! About time I learned how to use this
Glad I could help!
Thanks for the video. I understand now how to configure the split operation. 73's
I’m glad you found it helpful.
Great video! I've now re-programmed one of my front panel buttons to "SPL". I find your approach to working split much handier than using the "Clarifier" button method.👍
I’m glad you found this approach helpful. I’m very fond of the FT-891. Some people think it is a difficult transceiver to operate, but I disagree. There’s so much functionality packed into that little radio.

Thanks very much for your informative videos! I have learned a lot from your ft891 videos.
Glad to help! Thanks for watching! FT-891 doesn't get the credit it deserves. 73, de N4HNH
Great explanations, and the re-caps are excellent! Thanks for posting. Subscribed.
I’m glad you found it helpful. There is an entire playlist dedicated to the FT-891.

Now i know im not in of subject for this video but i just want to ask you of mfj-939y if is compatible with ftdx-10 ? Can i work with this using all feature of atu ? Thank's , 73 !
I haven’t tried the MFJ-939Y myself but it is supposed to be fully compatible and function as a “plug and play” tuner with the FT-891, the FT-450D, and the FT-950. You will need MFJ cable YAE-950/450/891.

Doug, amazing video and I could apply this tips for my ftdx10 and my ts-850.
Only one doubt remains on my mind. For logging purposes, in order to match the exact frequency of the station in the other end,qrz or any other logging platform, should I use the tx frequency or rx frequency?
73 my friend and congrats on your channel and videos.
Hi Victor! Well, in the early days, before phase-lock-loop and such, we just logged the band. Now that everything is more precise, the logging programs allow entry of every detail.
Since my logging software tracks the main VFO, I end up logging my RX frequency. If you want to follow the spirit of why we need a license to transmit, you would log your TX frequency. Since a station log is no longer a requirement, you could take your pick, or just log the band. For me, since Ham Radio Deluxe tracks the main VFO for logging purposes, I go with that.

Amazing input Doug!!! Thanks for the tip and all the help to the community!! I'm tuned on every video!!! Everytime I watch, I learn something new! 73
I’m so glad you find the videos informative, Victor. It means so much to know that others are benefiting from them.

when I want to be the operator running the split would i follow your directions then just hit the a/b button to reverse the tx/rx???
You’re absolutely correct. Or you could use the TXW feature in Function menu 2. Maybe assign TXW to either the A, B, or C key so you can toggle without going into the Function-2 screen.
@N4HNH Radio thank you very much! Love your videos. Getting ready for my general next month! You have been a great help!
When working split on my Icom radio, when I transmit, the VFO B switches to the upper VFO A position showing that I am transmitting on the split frequency. When I stop transmitting it reverts back to VFO A and I am now listening to the DX station. When working split with the FT-891, it doesn't change so I'm not sure if it doesn't do that like my Icom. Do I just assume I'm transmitting on my split frequency and not the DX's frequency? Thanks for your help.
The FT-891 doesn’t switch the VFO positions like your IC-7300 does.
Thanks. I appreciate your quick reply.
Is that time UTC time or your local
Where do you see the time? If you caught a glimpse of the clock that is displayed above the gray line map on my computer monitor, that is UTC, not local time. It’s from Ham Radio Deluxe.

@@n4hnhradio The time is on my screen where the "Set Reminder" is shown.
