Sir, Two very important points I never fully understood or appreciated until viewing this video: Without exaggeration during the drill I'll never change the bad habits. And Two: Without continuing rotation, shanking the ball results. You are one of the best teachers on UA-cam and I thank you for sharing your knowledge.
great video. i had no idea that the takeaway was so critical to the follow through. it has changed my swing and i now have solid ball compression. thanks again
Discovered your channel a few weeks ago and absolutely love your content. I live locally to you in Essex and was hoping to book some in person lessons but I see from one of the comments below that you only do online lessons now. If you start doing in person lessons again do let me know as I would be very interested in booking something up with you.
I've followed you on Insta for a while now and was stoked when I recognized you while browsing the tube. the masses have spoken. You're a fantastic teacher dude. Your videos cover parts of the swing others rarely seem to 👍💯🔥
Great video Jonathan - your teaching has changed the way I approach a golf shot - I now feel like I rotate through the shot rather than attempt to hit the ball - one thing confused me is that when I initially keep the logo on the glove pointing down in the backswing I then find I simply have to rotate my forearm (and op then open the face) to complete my backswing) Given this is the case why is it so open to start with a closed face when you know it will have to open eventually for a full backswing?
Awesome to hear David! After shaft parallel to the ground in the takeaway, make sure you complete your backswing via your backswing rotation, rather than a forearm move 👍🏼
I've tried the drill with setting up with the closed club face before and I have no problem keeping the ball from going left. But when I viewed my video my hands weren't any farther forward and I couldn't tell what I was doing to keep the ball from going left.
I’ve been doing drills similar to this for over 5 seasons now . I can do it when I swing at 50% speed . But once I go after it all my bad habits creep in :( . And been practicing at least 2-3 times a week . So frustrated
I wish every pro taught this as lesson one and built on the swing from there vs. the usual tips on grip, wrist hinge, weight transfer, etc etc ad naseum…
This is what I'm trying to improve at the moment, but really struggling with long irons hybrid and my 3 wood. Would you have the same feels and ideas for those clubs as well?
Nice drill!. I tend to close the club face most of the times, but when I try to finish with my hands far forward, I shank the ball horribly. No idea why...😩
That’s due to not rotating and just forcing the hands forward. Rotation creates the shaft lean and also curves the hand path around your body. If the hands are forced forward, they will disconnect from the arc and the hosel will meet the ball first 👍🏼
@@jchowngolf Thank you so much for your explanation. I agree, I have issues rotating my body. I tried your drill with the stick this afternoon and things look much better!!!!.
Hey 👋 Johnothan, I tried this 3 step process at the range the other day and all I did was SHANK ball after ball after ball trying to keep the hands forward. Literally ⅔ of a bucket of balls wasted on shanks! What am I doing, what’s going on?!?! Felt like all this drill did for me was to ingrain How to Shank the ball 🤦. 🙏
If you’re forcing the hands forward you will most likely shank the ball. Find out the root cause for your personal golf swing for why you cast the ball, as doing the process in the video won’t cause you to shank the ball. Send me some videos on my Skillest profile and we’ll get the problem sorted easily
Pretty sure this is my problem. The thing now is. How do I get more wrist cock at top of swing my shaft is pointing pretty high in the air not toward target. Thanks for your earlier response

Awesome to hear you’ve been following me on insta before UA-cam! Cheers Connor, thanks for checking out the video!
I absolutely love how you address the rout cause, You are without a doubt the best coach :)
Thanks bud! Without addressing the root cause you’re just spinning your wheels 🤙🏻
Taking these drills to the range on Friday. Good lesson mate
You're best coach ever😄
Thanks Jennifer! 🤙🏻

Hi! Do you have a drill to avoid the chicken wing swing?
Very knowledgeable and articulate
Thanks Bobby! 👍🏼

very helpful drills!

It’s definitely a very stubborn problem to fix, but with enough intentional focused practice the problem will get fixed 👍🏼
Thank you for this!!
My pleasure bud! 👍🏼

Some great drills!

Absolutely, the same for 3 wood and hybrid 👍🏼
very good golf instructor ,,,
Thanks bud!

Would you say it's similar to a cricket drive down the ground?
If u don’t rotate that a push. Can u show me what the hands do at impact
Where are you based in the uk for lessons ?
I’m based in Essex, but I’m currently giving lessons exclusively via online lessons on an app called Skillest 👍🏼

Not getting any lag on the way down in other words.
Great video Jonathan! Would these tips/feels also apply to hitting driver, woods, and hybrids?
😁👍
Thanks man 🤙🏻
