Roads Less Travelled

  • A glimpse into our June camping and fishing trip. We didn't catch any fish, but as usual, just being out in the wilderness is a balm to the soul.
Thanks to our friends Jo and Sandra Barkley-Probst for allowing me to use their song "Road Less Travelled" in the video. The sentiments in their song are perfect. Because getting out into the wilderness can be all about taking the road less travelled. It can be hard sometimes. Bugs, brambles, sinking mud, and a lot of effort... but the results are so good for the soul. I guess that's why I continue to go camping and canoeing with Hubby year after year. Because it makes me stronger. Both as an individual and as one half of a couple.
On this trip we camped at Bonnechere Provincial Park on Round Lake. For our day of canoeing we drove into Algonquin Park and paddled up the Bonnechere River.

You two have still got it! I love the way you navigate through those rivers. You must have a good knowledge or a good map. And the rain!

Hubby has been paddling in Algonquin Park for fifty years, so he knows it like the back of his hand. But on this trip we were following the river so pretty easy. Except for crossing that reedy area and trying to follow the channel by watching for the ripples of a slight current among the weeds. The rain... makes me happy we weren't in a tent on the ground. Ha.
