Slaughterhouse-Five Trailer - Directed by George Roy Hill and starring Michael Sacks, Ron Leibman, Eugene Roche, Sharon Gans, Valerie Perrine. A man tells his story of how he became unstuck in time and abducted by aliens.
Universal - 1972
I am on youtube right now in 2020 watching a trailer that is being uploaded right now in 2012 for a movie that is being screened right now in 1972.
So it goes.
Someone hasn't paid much attention to how that phrase is used.
@@eddie30991 someone is a bit pedantic. In the book the phrase so it goes was only muttered when regarding a death but it doesn't mean it can't apply to other situations. So it goes
@@willywonker1870 so it goes.. back into the sewer system.
@@eddie30991someone doesn't know how to have fun
I am on youtube right now answering to a comment in 2022 that is being written in 2020 while watching a trailer that is being uploaded right now in 2012 for a movie that is being screened right now in 1972. So it goes.
Hope i’ve done it right.
So it goes.
My name is Yon Yonson,I live in Wisconsin.
I work in a lumberyard there
the people i meet when i walk down the street,
They Say, “Hello There”. “What is your name”?
Vonnegut used sci fi and 'unstuck in time' as the perfect representation of ptsd and dissociation. He keeps re experiencing moments when similar experiences trigger memories, time jumps.
If you're ever in Cody, Wyoming. Ask for Wild Bill.
Wild Bob - I only know because i just finished the book.
Who's Bill?
@@bldjln3158 Not mine. I just had water and the breadsticks.
And so it goes
In 1869 my 3xGreat maternal grandfather travelled from London the America. in Nebraska he met Buffalo Bill Cody. My ancestor was Victorian Artist Arthur Boyd Houghton. Google Arthur Boyd Houghton in Nebraska.
My father, a World War II combat vet with PTSD, took me to see the movie when I was 19, the night before I went off to military boot camp......
Lol niceee
Thank you to sci fi channel on a rainy day back in the summer of 2001. They showed this and it openned up my mind.
Have never seen the movie. I’ve read the book though. I always remember being a kid and my dad talking about how “there was a movie called slaughterhouse-5 and you’d think that it was a horror movie, but it was a weird thing about a guy from the war who went back and forth on time”. Once I got older and into reading classics I thought “I need to search this book out” gonna get real high tonight and watch the movie in 2024!
How the hell did they manage to make this into a coherent film? The book was hard enough to follow at some points lol
See it. Barnes and Noble can get it for you. A superb film for '72.
martK banjoboy what the hell is Duck Dynasty. Sounds dumb
The book is a great read if you just have the brain power to read text...
Samuel B anyone can read the book and understand it. One of the great things about Vonnegut is his minimalist, straightforward writing style. If you have the reading ability of a 3rd grader you’ll have no trouble getting through it
Pervis cunty, catty remarks much?
I was 15 and an usher @ cinema 285 in Sandy Springs Ga when this came out in 72,great flick.
The marketing people who make trailers typically get unedited footage and are expected to make a coherent proposed capture of the essence of a completed film. I get the feeling the makers of this trailer just said, "WTF?"
#SoItGoes
Actually the "incoherent," "disjointed," "ill transitioned," flash fwd to the past trailer montage aptly reflects the novel, Vonnegut's post-WW2 haphazard, sporadic and spontaneous "telegraphic" "time travel"s amid his narration of his present life. It purveys the kaleidoscopic nature of consciousness after a life of disparate traumatic events, in disparate times and places.
My favorite part is when he relates diarrhea to Newton's third law of motion.
I love the opening of this movie with Bach`s 5th keyboard concerto in F minor . As Billy steps on that GI`s toes, the German soldier says: "schau dir diesen Trottel an ."
An amazing film based on a fantastic book
How can I watch this movie in full and for free, please send me the link if you have it. Thank you
People who didn’t read had no idea what the hell they were watching
I went to high school with kurt vonnegut's nephews
I had a ham and egg sandwich this morning
Me too ! ! !
Agreed 100
So many trailers back then had no editing rhythm whatsoever. They just...played a series of clips.
Isaac Marion I think that was on purpose for this movie.
Isaac Marion in the really old days the trailers consisted of scenes playing as a giant words came across the screen and a narrator said "starring joan collins as the damsel in distress in her greatest performance to date in this timeless thriller where she'll have to choose between the dashing luke williams played by john ford and james dean as the handsome and mysterious cowboy jake lawler of the wildest west!" yeah it's weird
+Isaac Marion Well I mean the book reads like this trailer essentially. The non-linear narrative of the story is what makes it a timeless read
You are an idiot blinded by the current crap that's being made and have no understanding of editing whatsoever.
also remember that back in the day when making a cut on film, its a lot of work. especially jumping around. Also Rarely would the film makers actually have anything to do with the trailer. Typically handled by the Distribution company, who probably had 40 other ones to bang out that week. Not to mention the Marketing machine back then was nothing compared to now.
One of my favorite books and movie. When you read the book i wonder- how can anyone make that a movie- and when I watch the movie I wonder how could this possible be a book.
They are both equally amazing. Brilliant!
Damn, I learned of Slaughterhouse 5 from Footloose when Kevin Bacon mentioned it was a classic novel.
This book blew my mind! I hope the movie does too.
and so it goes
It will. You'll love it!
Where can I watch the movie?
The director and writers would have to be fucking brilliant to pull off a movie adaptation of this book. I'm curious as to how this turned out.
Only now, in 2022, I discovered this trailer. Might check it out! I have reserved hopes though. I'm a sucker for old-school metaphysical time jumping films. "The man who fell to Earth" with alien Bowie comes to mind. Also Pink Floyd's "The Wall" about childhood trauma of losing father in the war. To a certain extent "Birdie"...
just finished the book- cant see how any movie can do it justice
I agree 💯
Vonnegut Kurt jr. was a GENIUS!!!
Most of the film was filmed in the Czech
Republic, especially in Prague. It is possible to see shots of the Prague
embankments, the Old-New Synagogue and the former city slaughterhouse in Prague
7. They still stand there. Now they are preparing for reconstruction, preparing
for a tragic Chinese market and public house, cafes, cultural stalls and other
beneficial activities. The grand hall, where the main actort stays, is the
Faculty of Law of Charles University in Prague. The cameraman was Miroslav Ondříček, the main collaborator of Miloš Forman.
I am in love with this novel but never watched this film. It seems like it hits on all the key scenes except, "If your ever in Cody Wyoming, just ask for Wild Bob!" I feel like a remake would be cool. The trailer reminds me of that film "Slipstream" with Anthony Hopkins.
I enjoyed the book more than the movie. The movie is dated and I would love to see a remake.
@@vickisorensen2024that's just the magic of the film
Great book and equally great movie. People should experience both.
If watching this movie for the 1st time, be sure to see it from the VERY beginning!
Ah but what does it mean: to begin
i spoke to Vonnegut in 2006 via a radio station, great experience. He died exactly to the day a year later. (or so it goes) i`ve been lucky in life i managed to speak to all my heroes , Kurt Vonnegut, Robbie Flower, but still havent met my last hero, Santa Claus
@rubutt I haven't seen the movie but, in the book, Billy was always spaced. Especially during the war. His time jumps kept him separated from every experience.
I was reminded of this film when watching Cloud Atlas.
How insulting
+Hank Horsecore
Keep tipping that fedora compadre while the rest of us look past something as temporary as film preference to see the message in common with all of these beautiful, eclectic stories that time is what ever you want it to be.
We are all flies trapped in the amber of the moment
I've just read the graphic novel of "Slaughterhouse 5". Very impressive.
The reason Dresden was un- touched until that late in the war was because it was one of the potential A bomb targets. By '45 it was realized the bomb would not be ready before the Nazi surrender so it was bombed the old fashioned way. It was going to get it either way. And so it goes....
I do not think one should say "bombed the old fashion way" as the way Dresden was bombed happened only one other time, in Darmstadt. They used nasty bombs which burn down everything. In Darmstadt for example 99% of the whole town were destroyed. Thats not in any way old fashioned.
Still better than an atomic bomb, though!
wrong sir, it was bombed to the scheissenhausen to demonstrate to the Russians the air superiority of the allies, a tacit reminder to uncle Joe to behave himself after the war.
Gabriele not yust once, Hamburg got those too
Wrong it was Bomb because it was german cultural magnificence and it hosted a anti Jewish convention
But thousands died. More pain and suffering. whether is got it or not the inevitable result was pain and suffering. in its horrific form. true evil lies there.
I saw this movie a long time ago and afterwards read the book. Absolutely Amazing. Reading the book after seeing the movie was helpful for me because I expanded the movie in my head as I read. My imagination explored and expanded in detail the written words. Bravo
The entire story I believe actually happens on Tralfamador, leading Billy to time travel due to forth dimensional setting. This is why he knows everything will happen in every setting, and why billy lives after he dies
The marksmen missed the first shot. Billy knew the rules of warfare and stood still. Everyone deserves a chance.
"Nobody fucks with Paul Lazarro!"
that's 2 'Z's
Doug Coppinger Oh, great! I just fucked with Paul Lazzarro!!
That's "Lazzaro." Yet somehow you lived, to read this comment ... .
Enjoy life while you can. Whenever the doorbell rings, have somebody else answer the door.
I'm here cuz of h3h3 livestream, just ended a few min ago.
Bacon McSwag same.

Same now
I watched this back in the early 70s as a teenager. I was totally confused on what was going with the back &forth scenes from the past and future.
I love that movie!
I think I saw this on tv when I was a kid. I remember the alien part. of Billy and the girl being in the dome, but thats about it. Interesting.
And so it goes.
... и мудрости всегда отличать одно от другого. Легко жить, если прочитаешь это в далеких 70 ых...
Да! Привет вам из 2021!
In a scale of 1-10 is the movie anything like the book?
+Paul Jones It's a surprisingly faithful adaptation.
agreed - very faithful and well-made adaptation!
Kurt Vonnegut, Jr., himself, was pleased with the film.
I thought it was beautifully done. Though it would be confusing to those who don't understand time travel.
Tralfamadorians do.
Evangelion and Slaughterhouse-Five, we already have 2 things in common... weird.
Billy are you time tripping again ???
I can always tell when you’ve been time tripping
I read the original novel😀
"Valerie Perrine movie." That's the best description you could come up with?
GREAT WORK
finished this book last night...blew mah gaddamned mind
Gracias.
The "at least 100,000" victims figure was taken from the now widely discredited David Irving, who is mentioned in Slaughterhouse Five.
25,000 estimated casualties. It is still almost inconceivable for one bombing raid.
Wtf.. time for a remake. Who would direct? Lynch? Michael Bay?
Julian Emdon Nope. Speilberg maybe.
Christopher Nolan with his standard cast of Cilian Murphy, Tom Hardy and Paul Anderson. It will be great.
anyone but bay. you need dramamine to watch his movies, the camera is shaky and the scenes so jumbled together they are unwatchable.
Terry Gillam during his heydays.
Tarantiono - the title alone... ;)
Can Montana Wildhack sue Hannah Montana and Billy Ray Cyrus?
An example of a book being categorically non-adaptable on screen.
I think in the hands of someone like Spike Jonez or Wes Anderson it could be interesting.
commissionergordan i always said wes andersen would do good with vonnegut
acb1511 Charlie Kaufman is reportedly working on adapting it. Or at least that's what is on his IMDb lol
from PERSIA with Passion
From America with amiability.
3:09 I never expected to have a Disney song after someone getting shot. Although for this story, I guess that’s fitting.
So it goes
So it goes...
We gave them chance after chance to surender, and told them we would annihilate them if they didn't. We backed up our words.
If you like Slaughterhouse-Five, you might like Joe Hill too.
The trailer is just as disjointed as the movie.
+ ralphus44 and as the book. However, it makes sense in the book.
yeah, not really, but by intention :p
so it goes.
I guess you have to thank your 'great' Kaiser Wilhelm II for that one.
He and his zeppelins were an inspiration to the world.
:-p
so it goes
Is this a real trailer for this movie? It just looks like random clips lumped into 4:31 minutes...
That's kinda how the book reads.. but in a fucking awesome way
lol that guy did not read the book hahaa
Jose Marin Yeah, I haven't read the book. Because I live in Asia and we have our own literary masterpiece. Some of you may have heard the name Pramoedya. Have you read his work?
gurudeclan
I have been curious about the book. But the movie trailer here seems like a really bad trailer. :|
Well, everyone has different taste. The story is of a man who becomes unstuck in time. So, there is a real montage feeling. Some people won't like that, perhaps. It isn't a great trailer, but the film is really enjoyable in my opinion.
A movie that is better than the book? FINALLY! (and the book is awesome, btw)
Anthony Hunt Doubt it!
It’s not better than the book
In what way was it better than the book?? Lol this movie looks like trash
It's definitely worthy of the book.
It's a pretty good movie but the book is much better.
too bad the sound is so low on this. excellent mash
i wanna watch this :D
Bach and Vonnegut
Was that river Phoenix as one of the kids in the beginning? Also I always just assumed this was a horror film.
Well, he would have been 1 and 1/2 when the movie came out, so I doubt it.
How can I watch this movie in full and for free, please send me the link if you have it. Thank you
i saw this in '72 when i was 16. i had no trouble then, now at 66 i still have no trouble following, without reading the f'ing book
h3h3 brought me
When did he mention slaughterhouse five?
I am here from the recent live stream he did of the podcast with Joji and Post Malone
And so on...
Billy, are you time tripping again?
The trip never ends
Jesus! Pick all the commenters who've never read the book! YES - It's just as disjointed and non-linear as this trailer! Personally, I think its grossly overrated, but still an interesting read ;)
Could anyone tell me the composition in the beginning?
Bach's 5th Concerto for Keyboard
Well, I believe in a loving God, and I believe that he knew exactly what we were trying to achieve in doing this: trying to stop the most destructive conflict in human history.
If there is a loving god, why didn't he stop it before it began?
I want to remake this when I get older, when I read the book I saw it like Who Framed Roger Rabbit, with live action mixed with a heavy does of cartoon animation. I think that would be really great, So it goes.
Como Fasso para conseguir o Video Completo de Slaughterhouse 5-(Em PortuguesBrasil-=Matadouro 5)-????-(Faavor Traduzir este Post)-
I knew a man who dropped bombs on Dresden.
My god, this trailer sucks! But I am happy there is movie about the book. I'm reading it right now, and it feels like a classic.
3:10 - 3:25 What is the song?
darn i miss dresden
no sound

The book was supposed to be a satire and war book but it became a science fiction movie. Just why?
There's a lot of war and satire in the movie. The car crash sequence is hilarious. And horrifyingly tragic. The sci-fi came from the book, too.
I guess!
What about the Americans in Japan?
This needs a remake
Looks traumatic.
This iz a fuckn dope trailer tbh
don't try to play moral equivalency. you appear foolish and coldhearted
I guess that is one way to justify it
I just can't see this being good at all, it's as if the book is written so that it can only be understood as it is, a book. And nothing else.
I beg to differ. Although I admit that I haven't seen the movie for decades, I remember loving it. And this was after I read and loved the book.
Cars going out of control, airplane crashes. What more can you want?
