- In this episode of “The Pipe Box”, Gold Medallist, Jim McGillivray breaks down the rhythmic and expressive nuances of how to master playing "Scotland The Brave" (or in Scottish Gaelic: Alba an Àigh) - on both the practice chanter and on the Great Highland Bagpipe.
* Download the (free) "Scotland The Brave" sheet music (PDF) - pipetunes.ca/scotland-the-brave and play along with Jim as he shows how to generate rhythm when playing this challenging but rewarding 4/4 March bagpipe classic. The difficulty level of "Scotland The Brave" is intermediate. You'll need technical competency performing Doublings, Grips, Taorluaths, and D-Throws to successfully play this tune.
Fun Fact: "Scotland The Brave" was voted second (only to "Flower of Scotland") in a (2006) online poll to determine Scotland's favourite unofficial anthem. It is also likely the tune most associated with the bagpipes themselves.
