@@roycastanon5754 I know that at least I didn't notice because it feels like this podcast just started yesterday. Time sure flies right? We''re all gonna be dead soon.
well the podcast has a central theme, movies. and there's an infinite amount of movies to talk about. so it'll probably last for as long as they all keep enjoying it.
Wizards is the kind of movie that could be really good today. I can see someone liking the movie and creating a more coherent, almost satirical modern version of it. And that sounds awesome to me.
If you look at the 1 star reviews for Uncut Gems on IMDB it's just a bunch of confused elderly people complaining that the movie was too loud, had too much swearing and wasn't funny lol
dude when i went to see it in cinemas this elderly couple sat in front of me and on the way out they asked these two workers who were holding open the doors if they'd seen the movie and when they replied with no they said "don't bother" which was pretty weird because they both kept laughing throughout the entire film.
cheekybananaboy I don’t blame elderly people for not liking it. It’s pretty vulgar, and everyone does talk over one another the entire time, definitely not a movie to watch with grandma, that being said, I loved it
I don't know for most people, but for me the movie was unbearable, like I watched it on netflix, halfway through I just stopped, I dunno what happened, but to me the movie just didn't click, I asked a friend of mine, he said he had the same reaction as mine, so I thought that's how most people saw the movie, as just kinda boring, and now I see people really seem to like this movie (which I don't understand)
The PG-13 rating wasn't introduced by the MPAA until 1984. There are a few strange examples of "PG" movies that definitely don't fit the modern use of the term, such as Airplane!, Poltergeist, and Jaws.
Pretty cool that the Safdie Brothers won best director at the Independent Spirit Awards. Their speech was great, too. Edit: Sandler and Dafoe also won, which was great.

I don't think ralph could relate much to it. part of the whole point to fritz the cat is that it's a social commentary on America in the midst of the 60's.
Wizards is one of those 1 in fifteen trillion projects. It was created at a time when the boundaries of animation had no limits and Ralph Bakshi basically remade the wheel.
This is a great day for me. Gonna see 1917 again today (which I really enjoyed) Booksmart is on Hulu so I’m watching that. Oscars are today, gonna listen to the commentary. AND, new Sardonicast AND they’re talking about Uncut Gems.
Anyone had Planet of the Apes in mind when they were talking about the references in other media? I remember it in Madagascar and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. It basically spoils the reveal and I'm sure it's parodied everywhere.
Man, wizards is always going to be really nostalgic for me. I grew up watching it with my dad, and it was even the first movie I saw on shrooms (because why wouldn't it be?) It's not high-class cinema, but damn is it just fun to watch. It even made me want to be an animator for a bit until I actually tried it. Mad respect for Ralph Bakshi and any other animators.
I saw it with someone who didn’t want to see it while I had pneumonia and I was like half asleep and my head was killing me and legitimately all I remember about it was finding it very annoying. I felt really irritated that everyone was yelling their dialogue. It was the only time I walked out of a theater without finishing the film. I realize this is a shallow and incomplete judgment of the film but I’m probably not going to check it out again anytime soon.
For those who haven't seen Wizards, I highly recommend you at least watch the first few minutes. It delivers my favorite fantasy backstory of all time.
Perfect timing, I was cooking a bunch of sausages and was like "too bad I can't wait till Monday to snack them while listening to the newest Sardonicast"

I was super disappointed with how Uncut Gems was released here in spain, at least in Madrid (where I live) I couldn't find a single showing. I'd say the movie's still fully worth it, I've watched it twice already in the past few days.
Wizards had a lot of really great things going for it, I personally like it a lot, but even I'll admit it needs some fine tuning. If someone fixes it up a bit it could be really good.
It makes sense why Ralph Bakshi aimed for a PG rating, since the MPAA first introduced the PG-13 rating in July 1984, and the marketability would be severely hampered if it was an R rating. Especially if Bakshi said this was supposed to be a family film.
To be fair with Alex, we Aussies didn't get Uncut Gems in theatres, only on Netflix. Which is sad since The Safdie Brothers previous film Good Time did.
I’d say Wizards is about a bunch of subtle, connecting themes but I can never quite place them cause I always watch it on acid, still 10/10 for me regardless the constantly changing art styles keep me hooked, and overall I’d say what makes this movie so great is it’s dream like quality. Where the budgetary restrictions make stuff like the big battles less coherent I feel like they used that to their advantage and made very evocative montages (with excellent music). I think the selling point is that it feels like one of those really detailed dreams we all get every once in a while. The ultimate example of its low budget genius in my opinion is the use of rotoscope, which uses the flickers of colorful imperfections frame by frame that give this rush of magic to these badass demon warriors and it makes it work.
omg yes I watched Uncut Gems because I thought you had a Sardonicast on you, but then you didn't and I was sad. the movie was still good though, I still love you guys

Yeah the comment Adum talked about regarding the ending which I wont spoil but when what happens, happens, it actually feels like a bittersweet end to the character. Like, to prevent the cycle like Jake Gyllenhaal's character in Enemy, what happened to Howard was basically the best way you could've ended it cause if not he would've kept going. At least he got one more victory before the end.

Alex describes his british movie theater experiences with disdain but it sounds great to me haha, everyone just shuts the fuck up no yelling laughing talking popcorn munching
my parents had Wizards on VHS, they taped it off SBS when it was on at 3am sometime in the 80s and we used to watch this as kids over and over on the school holidays. i liked the ugliness and animation (the overpainting real footage wasn't something we saw back then - outside of lotr which we also had on VHS) and i liked the story telling but i saw it as a kids movie lol - it was a simple enough for a kid to understand the concepts of war and fascism etc but still gritty
You guys gotta watch Ralph Bakshi's American Pop. It is honestly one of the very best animated films ever made. It's a true masterpiece, unfairly made obscure because the music rights prevent home releases
@@danbam3411 Around 28:30 Ralph is speaking about the original score nominees and says "I can't say I liked any of those" and then Adum says something about how he liked Marriage Story's score and Ralph says "I did too but I wouldn't give it an Oscar." Like what the fuck what film would you give best original score to? I loved the score for Marriage Story, I thought it was fantastic and fitting to the film.
Cooper Haaland damn. Ralph shows how spineless and pathetic he’s trying to please to Adum. He’s been literally on damage control lately since his Joker review and it’s becoming more apparent. Whether you liked Joker or not, that’s another story. Marriage Story on the other half, had a great unique and whimsical music score to accompany the atmosphere of the movie. Randy Newman never fails to deliver. It stuck with me just as much as Hildur’s score.

oop, Brad Bird is gonna murder adum for calling animation a "genre" watch out.
Wizards is one of my favorite movies!
Kojima x Del Toro Claymation anime would be DOPE.
Alex describes his british movie theater experiences with disdain but it sounds great to me haha, everyone just shuts the fuck up no yelling laughing talking popcorn munching
You guys should do a video on Angel's Egg and Perfect Blue. Both beautiful films.
They should do vampire hunter D
Or Belladonna of Sadness. All great weird movies
Really hoping they talk Miyazaki someday but preferably not Spirited Away
I think the gun thing was supposed to show he couldn't go with a peaceful option.
Or just the element of surprise since his brother expected magic.
Has anyone mentioned the new Minions trailer yet? this should be big news by now.
Whatever Hideo Kojima makes, itd probably at least 3 hours long. Probably longer
And he'd probably use all red lights if he likes Refn
That intro was golden
my parents had Wizards on VHS, they taped it off SBS when it was on at 3am sometime in the 80s and we used to watch this as kids over and over on the school holidays. i liked the ugliness and animation (the overpainting real footage wasn't something we saw back then - outside of lotr which we also had on VHS) and i liked the story telling but i saw it as a kids movie lol - it was a simple enough for a kid to understand the concepts of war and fascism etc but still gritty
You guys gotta watch Ralph Bakshi's American Pop. It is honestly one of the very best animated films ever made. It's a true masterpiece, unfairly made obscure because the music rights prevent home releases
Oh fuck Wizards. That movie is an uncut gem.
Two Sardonicasts one day early? Huh
Holy crap finally I get to hear you guys talk about Meyerowitz - I fucking love that film
You guys were wrong about the Oscars!!! Because this episode DID come out before the Oscars!
Ralph wtf the Marraige Story score is incredible
Cooper Haaland he didn’t like it?? What time stamp?
Ralph just sorta says dumb shit a lot and never elaborated so I've stopped bothering to question it.
@@danbam3411 He didn't l Iike something you like so now its tantrum time right?
Was the intro the theme to I Know Who Killed Me?
I love Wizards.
Mark Hamil gets two lines and then gets shot.
Edit;/ I said that before I watched this.
Next episode should discuss Birds of Prey
Blackwolf is no Saruman, he's Eisenstein's Ivan the Terrible.
The way they say A24 as A-two-four drives me nuts lol
