- Goodbye, Splatoon 1! (except through you know what)
The Nintendo Network for 3DS and WiiU shut down on April 8th, 2024, taking down all online games associated with it. However, due to the p2p nature of many of Nintendo's games, if you were online... you stayed online. even after 8.
and we made the most of it!
I'll miss this game, as it truly did change my life. maybe ill make a video talking about my journey someday. I really should.

Unironically, Saltspray Rig. I want to see how they would tweak what is already a very janky stage design for 3.
The Wasabi Splattershot. If the Tentatek can come back, the Wasabi can comeback.

Maybe it had a spill since it was last used, and the Map is now a wreckage of sinking terrain atop pools of oil? Could be a banger Salmon Run Map too!
I lost my mind that stream, I was playing Undertale SAVE THE WORLD and everything. I hope chat enjoyed me yelling inspirational quotes for 2 hours 😂

I know we have Pretendo but somehow it isn't the same. Still I'm grateful Splatoon 1 started something beautiful in impacting our lifetime, Thank You Nogami.
Splatoon 1 surviving beyond its hour of closure was the definition of "C'mon man, one more game !", and it was glorious to witness. It could not have ended better, because we were together to witness it.
Yes! ❤ this comment!!! Such a memorable night for the community...we were playing super late into the night. We went from DREADING the final hour, to nervous confusion, to joy and finally exhaustion lol. At least we were able to end it on our terms and together!!! Anyways, Splatoon 1 lives on Pretendo! i loved the existential crisis while maritime memory plays 😭 its crazy to imagine what would of happened if splatoon flopped. but im happy everything came out this way. to more splatoon games and hopefully a spin off game where i can be dj octavio making beats !!!!!

i have so much footage and streams to look back on, and memories that might be on my laptop deep somewhere from 2017..........
I was in the middle of an online class during this stream that started when the servers were supposed to die (5 PM PST), and man, watching that whole stream during the class waiting for the hammer to drop and questioning why it hadn't yet was a roller coaster of emotions.
Edit: MY "VIC STOP I DON'T WANT TO THINK ABOUT THAT YET" COMMENT GOT MENTIONED AT THE END, LET'S GOOOOOO!!!
When the connection lost text showed and seeing vic like. Its my internet and then figuring out that really the servers died was funny....And sad
I will never forget sobbing as I watched this stream. Partially out of losing something that made my life special, and the other half out of hope for a new future for this franchise. What you said truly inspired me. I don't think I've ever felt so... moved. Without Splatoon, I would've kept being a shy recluse. Even if an era of Splatoon has ended, we can grow from that. We can make new memories and rise the curtain once again.

This was a battle for the ages, you could HEAR death’s icy grip narrowly miss Splatoon every ten minutes that lobby stayed active. This community’s built different.
RIP Splatoon, the game that I have to thank for my graduation robes and status as a marine biologist/digital artist. May Saltspray rest in peace :,) (Or come back as a Salmon Run Map that works too)
Rip to the Wii U and Splatoon 1. Apparently there is something called pretendo that allows it to play online again but that’s risky and I don’t know if that’s legal
Yeah it is not the same, either way it's influence will never be forgotten.
as many have said, the wii has had the same user-ran servers going on for a decade. it's not illegal as long as it was reverse-engineered and not directly stolen :)

it's not that risky, you can follow the tutorial on the pretendo site, there's also an easier method that requires less time and risks. You can follow both methods on pretendo's site

And then Nintendo uploads Sizzle Season 2024 and brings SaltSpray back, except it’s not SaltSpray and instead a totally different map with no crane
Jokes aside I will miss Splatoon, I played ranked until midnight, let’s just say my writing essay the next day about trying new things and the challenges and experiences that come with it was one of my best essays yet

It was good while it lasted, Victoria. Keep on playing turf war. Though I will admit looking back on your final Splatoon 1 stream, it was funny when you did the private battle to see how long you could last after the online shut down because we all thought the axe would come when 8PM rolled around.

I may have never played Splatoon 1 (didn’t own a Wii U), but I’ve been playing Splatoon 2 since it came out (it was actually my brother’s idea to buy it, I wasn’t sure I’d like it, but fell in love with it as soon as I started playing). That was July 2017, I was just about to start High School, now it’s 2024 and I’m approaching the end of my 1st year of a University degree, and somehow, despite never owning this game, the shutdown flooded me with nostalgia, to the point where I was tearing up at the end of the stream.

thank you, splatoon 1. i may not have been there for your start, but i was there for your end, along with almost 1,000 people. thank you for starting the franchise that brought so much color to my life. may you rest in peace.
Splatoon 1 - 2015-2024
Splatoon really has changed my life. I never played S1, but S2 was a big part of my childhood. S2 gives me lots of fun memories and it leads me back to playing it again. But I think S3 has had the biggest impact on my life. After rough times, I turned back to Splatoon and rediscovered the game. My timing was great, because I came back to the point when S3 was about to release. I played the World Premiere, replayed the S2 story modes, and played lots of Turf War along the way. Then S3 came out. I played it nonstop for the first season. The Hero Mode was absolutely amazing. I even beat After Alterna. And I really enjoyed the Splatfests, which I disregarded when I played S2.
But the most impactful thing S3 has had on my life was the ability to play with friends. I had moved away from my best friend before S3’s release and that was really tough. But when she got S3 for her birthday, we could finally connect more. I just think having the opportunity to play with her over long distances is life changing overall. I’m just
very thankful that S3 exists. Thank you, Splatoon.

Splatoon 1 I grew up with… My brother got a WiiU with Splatoon (and Skylanders) oh the memories… We didn’t get to play online until a few YEARS after, so we entertained ourselves quite well with the battle dojo, and the story mode! Gosh I miss those days…
I was quite young when it came out, and had the game for YEARS… I played it until I got Splatoon 2 late, in 2022… and my mom sold that WiiU, and Splatoon on Ebay… I never made it to any goodbye Splatoon 1 streams unfortunately, but I actually am shedding tears because of my nostalgia and love for the game, and now it’s gone… Rest in Peace Splatoon 1, you stayed with many people for longer then you probably could handle, and the game will forever remain as an incredible game in history… Splatoon 2 and 3 will be going strong for years to come I hope, and perhaps in the future even a Splatoon 4…
The funniest thing about this is how after the time it was supposed to have its life support pulled off, Vic (I think unintentionally) cheated the system while it lasted.
I'm glad I was here to see the end. Even tho I never gave this game a chance, I'm still grateful for it's existence, since we got S2 from it, and that got me into the series. This was, and still is, the best journey I've ever been on, and I couldn't be happier. I love the Splatoon community so much. Thank you Splatoon.... For everything

I would have missed out on Splatoon if Splatoon 2 didn't happen 😔 I never got the first game because I didn't have reliable internet back when it came out, and man that was such a mistake 😅 I'm grateful I got into 2 though because gosh I love this series! Now I'm enjoying 3 with friends (although admittedly they play less than me lol) and I'm having such a good time 🥰
RIP Splatoon 1, your online may be gone but you will never be forgotten 🧡💙
Despite being almost entirely replaced by it's sequals, the original Splatoon is, and will always be, my favorite Splatoon game and even after I played other legendary games such as Halo, Doom, and Half-Life, Splatoon will always have more charm than anything, nothing will ever be able to match it, and it remains one of my favorite shooters, my favorite online game, and favorite third person shooter. Goodbye Splatoon, I'll always miss you.

i will never forget this game (im literally using it on pretendo rn im in the lobby) from 2015 i was incredibly invested, watching youtubers play it during that era was so fun and my dream was playing it
then on christmas 2018, i got the chance, and it was a dream come true
this game has been with me for so long (over 5k hours) and it will always be my favorite one, and i will always be thankful for your streams of this game and how you showed me the banned map mode combinations and everything, that was something i always wanted to know, those streams were always my favorite because i got to participate, and once again, im thankful for everything this game did for me ❤
God I hope we get urchin underpass in splatoon 3. It’s literally the first map we got to properly see and play on in splatoon history! Not having it in a game that’s trying to be a culmination of all three games would be such a letdown

Splatoon 3 explodes you when your net has a moment. Splat 1 toys with you 😭😭😭 did you know if you’re laggy enough in s1 you can super jump with the rainmaker

I still remember that day as a child buying the Wii U with my own money in order to play Splatoon. I will forever cherish the color that this game has brought into my life and know that it was more than just something to entertain myself, it created a place where I was able to meet so many inkredible (haha, get the pun?) people.
