    There is something I don’t understand about the three main chords in Sawmill Tuning. If the tonic is a G sus 4 chord, wouldn’t the other two chords be the sub dominate, (i.e. C) and a dominate (i.e. D) as is also the case in Ionian mode? Instead of a C, you are using the 7th of the scale, a F. I’m not saying it sounds bad. I was playing around with it on my fretless banjo and the 3 chords sound pretty neat when played together. Nevertheless, when I asked my AI app what the 3 most prominent chords were for Sawmill Tuning it said it was G, C, and D.

    • @BanjoSkills
      @BanjoSkills  8 місяців тому

      Hey thanks for the question! You could definitely include C in the most important chords for sawmill tuning. My thinking on the video is that the F chord is a bit more common than the C in old time songs played out of sawmill. So I wanted to limit the number of chords here to 3, and the F chord narrowly won out over the C. I think it gives you a few more songs that way.

    • @uncommonsensewithpastormar2913
      @uncommonsensewithpastormar2913 8 місяців тому +1

      @@BanjoSkills So does that mean there are songs in Sawmill that consists of G, D, and F? That would be I, V, and VII.

    • @BanjoSkills
      @BanjoSkills  8 місяців тому +1

      @@uncommonsensewithpastormar2913 Yeah, in my experience, I see that more often than G, D and C. Cluck Old Hen is a good example - one of my favorites!
