It's all good. I'm a female and my bedroom was small attic I shared with two brothers. Deadly hot in the summer, ice cold in the MN winter. Please people... sharing a smaller space and learning give and take will be good for the kids in the long run. And the memories this family are constantly making makes me jealous. Plus the shop nearby is just awesome for all the family just wish they had room for me.

When I do in-town moves, I just take full drawers out of dressers and put them in the car to move, then insert in the furniture at the new place. There's no need to box up clothes or the items, and have to take them out again.

My in-laws were one of 11 and one of 12, and their families both lived in small farmhouses either as big or smaller than your ranch when they were growing up! I haven't heard a complaint about the size of the houses (though there's plenty of interesting stories). So many houses are oversized these days, a false value placed on square footage, instead of how square footage is actually used. I think you guys will do a great job with your house.

Wow, Mike's packing organization is impressive considering he still has the same boxes from your prior move and had the boxes organized so he could reuse boxes for the same purpose. Small living spaces are great. I think I read once that no matter what the size of the house, most families utilize the same 500-600 square feet on a regular basis. We live in a small house (although only parents with one child). We appreciate living small and it prevents us from accumulating too much stuff. Also, less to clean! Good luck with getting the house ready and the move. I hope you find time to vlog and share with us a bit during these next few weeks.

Susan Anderson I think you’re right...we just sold our big family house...we only lived in The kitchen/living room and our bedroom...we love this small home already...no wasted space...tiny backyard...no upstairs...so much easier when u r getting old...

First of all, I really like how honest Mike is. Admitting the obvious that the house is really small and you will be very close to one another. I like the adventure and can do spirit you have. I have lived in a house during renovations and it can be done. Sometimes you move things around a lot. Super excited to see what comes next.

You guys will be fine in “the little house” you all lived in a 5th wheel and everyone survived. 😂 It may not always be comfortable but people all over the world, even in the USA would love to have a house that size (even with large families) I’m looking forward to seeing all the changes you all make! Here is an idea. Put everything in the warehouse. Park the RV by the house. Live in the RV and give yourself a 3 month window to open up the rooms and get flooring down. After living in the RV for a few months the house will seem plenty big.

Hope the move goes well can’t wait to see more. I lived in a 2 bedroom house with 3 brothers and parents we eventually did loft conversions but while they were being done we were perfectly happy and renovating it while we lived in there was so cost effective and we could keep an eye on everything and it gone done really quick cause the guys didn’t wanna be intruding on us so they busted those rooms out quick.

You will be fine in your tiny house! We lost our home in hurricane Michael a year and a half ago. We have a family of 12. We moved into my parents tiny 3 bedroom home and have been living with them since and until our home is finished this fall. Most of our children are teenagers so they aren’t tiny. It’s been an adventure and crowded but we are truly blessed.

I wish more people would understand that everyone has opinions and has the right to raise their family the way they want to. I stumbled across your page a few months ago and have fell in love with your family and how you guys parent. Never stop being you and do what brings you joy. We hate living in debt. So we moved in a one bedroom home and saved money for 4 years and bought a new home. We had 4 small kids. We turned the dining room in to the kids room. It was amazing time. We spent a lot time outside. It was a favorite home. It taught are kids so much. The kids still talk about how much they loved it. Once we moved in a larger home they still wanted to be in the share room even though they had their own rooms.

So happy that you take us along on your lives. So many people especially in the USA, I think, have gotten so used to large homes that they think anything smaller than 2500 SF is too little. Yet, most homes built in the 50s were around 1000SF and people made do. I remember my mom and I thought if someone had a 1200 SF home, it was big. Anyway, also wanted to say great job on your art, Esther - and Evie too! Jude, I’d have wanted that NASA shirt too!

Renovating and living in a home is hell. Ask me how i know. It is challenging to say the least then add 6 or 7 kids to that. And of course, double the time it will take and at 30% to your budget. Mark my words you will be rethinking living in a renovation. I truly wish you all the best.

In general I agree with you. But the Knorp’s are rather an exceptional family. Their children are not that young and seem to be very mature & well behaved. They seem to have a mindset of “we will do what our parents need us to do” and are attuned to sacrificing for the goal on the other end. Not that this whole thing is gonna go like clockwork without snags and without complaints. If the other large workshop/hangout space were not nearby that looks like they’re gonna be renting, I’d say they this would be an experiment in misery.

Plywood/unfinished floors aren’t too bad to live on. We did it for 2 years while we rebuilt our home after it flooded in 2011. We moved in as soon as the kitchen was done. We flooded in June 2011 and moved back in March 2012. We both still worked full time jobs & on the house at night during the cold winters in North Dakota!

I think the shed outside the kitchen door with a little bit of work would hold pantry items and the washer/dryer and would be a good use of space - I have done about 15 houses and I would not take out the weight bearing wall I think you just paint it and move in - if you go outwards on either side of the house with a monolithic roof using the same roof line if possible and when you add the 4-5 car garaging put a upstairs area attached to the house so bedrooms can go above with a bathroom or two and a DND/games room - I think that long term if the kitchen dinning area and lounge becomes the kitchen and dinning area only and you put a lounge as an extension off the existing kitchen window open that up into the lounge going into your beautiful back garden - if 2-3 of the older kids need to go into the RV not a problem they lived in it for a year - I see the two story garage with cedar shingles or something like that and put the same exterior product in some of the extensions to bring it together

Woopty wooes, love it Mike. You do great work and give me hope that I can still do it at some time in the future. I look forward to watching your journey.

I personally think you guys are setting an amazing example. A novel thought, pay for it as you go! Wow! Not going into debt because that’s what people say you need to do. 🤪 I cannot wait to follow along in the journey.

I am excited to see how you guys pull the little house together to make it work for your family. We do not need nearly as much space as we think we do. I have a 2700 sq ft home with 5 bedrooms for a family of 6. WE are looking to relocate to London where we will be down sizing SUBSTANTIALLY too. I think it'll work out just fine!

We lived in a schoolie/ school bus with three kids WHILE covering it into a home. Yes it was challenging, but still worth it for us!

Hey! that house may besmaller but it is certainly bigger than when you were living in a RV:) you will be fine especially if you get to rent that other building too- maybe you could use the RV as an Annex for a couple of the older ones?

Asti T that sounds like a good idea but sometimes local codes will not allow you to do that.

I love the timelapses ☺️ I am so excited to see you move and make the house your home. Also, from an european’s perspective, American houses always seem massive and oversized. Most Europeans live in smaller homes and we’re doing fine, so I think this will defenitely work. The location deels perfect for you guys 🥰
