Agreed. I saw this film long before "Silence of the Lambs" came out and though Michael Mann's directing style hasn't aged well over the years I still like this version better than the remake they made years later called "Red Dragon" (named after the book the movie is based on). And no disrespect to Anthony Hopkins, but I always thought he was trying a little too hard at playing a psychopath, whereas Brian Cox comes off mostly as a normal person and you let your guard down around him until he suddenly says something really crazy or disturbing and catches you off guard. Makes his portrayal of Hannibal Lector all the more terrifying if you ask me.
@@jesssss7154hasn’t aged well? What the fuck does that even mean? It’s an artifact of its time. All films are. That’s what makes them interesting. Mann is a genius. I’d love to see what you can produce. Manhunter is a brilliant film.
@@jrn2121 it means it looks dated. Never claimed Mann wasn't a genius or that the film is bad. But while his style of directing in this movie might have been innovative and cutting edge back in the mid 80's, it feels like an episode of Miami Vice.
Yes, much better than in "Red Dragon". But the thing is that they sedated the tiger for real in "Manhunter", while in "Red Dragon", due to animal wellfare policies, they just used a laying tamed tiger.
That's why you brought the bolt cutter. And, that how you knew it was the Jacobi's cat even though it didn't have a collar. You've seen these films...haven't you my man?
Miami Vice was Michael Mann's show so it makes sense. There's another one that's similar, that I think takes place in Miami. Band of the Hand, with the guy who plays Freddie Lounds. Good soundtrack too.
@ just because it’s straight forward, in my opinion. It’s just what I’ve always been used to and have never owned an Android. Is there an actual difference between Apple Music and Spotify that is worth switching ?
Y'know, I was just relaxing on a rainy Sunday afternoon with a Star Wars themed soundscape playing and started thinking to myself what other films would have a great theme for chilling to and besides Blade Runner I also thought of Will Graham's theme from this movie and wondered if anyone ever thought of making a soundscape for it. A quick YT search for it later and here I am. Thx UA-cam!
😊 Love it !!!! The ocean scene VERY Peaceful, like Agent Gramm who was enjoying his peace with his family, before hunting down a serial killer 😊, another favorite, I like from your soundscapes ALIENWORLDS 😊Thank u😊
Watched SotL (1991), Hannibal (2001), and Red Dragon (2002), my least favorite of the 3. I put off watching Manhunter for years because it didn’t have sir Anthony Hopkins as Lecter and because it is the oldest of all the Hannibal movies (I foolishly thought older = not as good). Suffice to say, Manhunter (1986) very quickly became my preferred Red Dragon storyline even if it doesn’t follow the book near the end and has some weird 80s editing jump cuts.
On King David's escape and departure from the Kingdom of Jerusalem, in his journey he pondered on Absaloms rebellion against the crown. David knowing his anointing to be of Divine origin considered his son's participation in becoming traitor to the royal throne. He knew too well only a short time remained before God would seem fit to re-establish David's honor and integrity over his kingship. For now God will hide David and the Great Architect bring to head a plan to restore the kingdom to its rightful owner.

One of the greatest movies of the 80s

Underrated film! I actually quite liked Brian Cox as Hannibal Lecter. He felt more like a real psychopath.

Totally. Will Petersen nails it as Will Graham.
The tiger scene is epic

This was my favorite film for 30 years (now #2)- very, very well done!! "You've seen these films....haven't you, my man?"
Comment begs a question.
@@TheJohnDoeLibraryRoom. Now it’s Inception (and coincidentally, given your screen name, Se7en is still in my top 5)

Underrated and underappreciated classic movie with fantastic music. Masterful cinematography with the color choices and camera shots. Great leads.
The first time I saw Manhunter, I thought I was watching a Miami Vice episode. This movie has such a Miami Vice look and feel to it.

@@monkbop8044 Good shout - lots of overlapping artists too (The Reds, Shriekback, Michel Rubini).
To live and die in la was tge same
If you get the chance, check out a "Miami Vice" episode called "Shadow In The Dark."
"Little Miss Dangerous" has some elements, too.
Can't hear "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" without thinking of this incredible movie.
That's because it's a re-arranged ambient version of the instrumental tracks from the film.
SO TRUE!!!!
Perfect video. Thank you for making this
"you've seen these tapes haven't you my man"
Epic film utterly brilliant.
The soundtrack was a work of art itself. The Big Hush by Shriekback was such a fitting song. Too bad it’s no longer on Apple Music
I hate Apple Music; it's too limiting, why do you like Apple, what are the benefits of Apple Music that you see over Android?

@gigeorge6sic6 I like to play .Flac files on my Android. Apple doesn't have Spotify???? Spotify offers more music than Apple Music
One of my favorite movie. This score is very sensual. Thank you.
This movie still gives me goose bumps.. totally underrated.one of the best.incredible soundtrack!
"It's just you and me now, sport. I'm gonna find you, goddamn it."
My second favorite line of the whole movie, there
Amazing film and soundtrack. The 2002 version doesn't hold a candle to this.
Thanks for making this, awesome stuff. I need the film on 4K UHD BluRay! Praying to the full moon it releases soon...

This is good but it could do without all the hissing tidal water type background noise, it's quite intrusive.
Suggestion ,cat people ,1982 movie.

Titling this film “Manhunter” is what killed it. Like some bad B-movie. Never had a chance to breathe. Too bad, for a variety of reasons.
