Thank you for breaking down the difference between nutrient deficiencies and disease! So helpful.
YOU GOT IT GBG!! Thank YOU for following, appreciate the feedback ! CaliKim
What i do to prevent powdery mildew is a water my soil with a milk and water combined it stops the powdery mildew spores the ground and it also puts calcium in the ground for ur veggies and tomatoes and i use milk in water to treat powdery mildew aswell on the plant aswell as hydrogen peroxide in water it works well
Aussie that's fantastic!! Thanks for letting us know along with your test results, as well!! Kim
I never get bored watching you!
The heat index is in the triple digits here in Alabama. I lost two crookneck squash, one to a vine borer, the other to a puma. Yes we have puma, cougar, mountain lion, what ever you want to call it hunting on our property. It got two of our cats this month. Japenese beetles, pickleworms, army worms, hornworms, and squash bugs are bad this year. For them, I spray with spinosad after sunset when the pollinators are away from the garden. I spray my squash and cucumbers with Immunox every ten days to prevent powdery mildew and rust. Fungi is bad in the southeast with the hot temperatures and humidity. I have it mixed to spray the fruit trees to prevent cedar gall rust, which I do two days before forecasted rain. This is the first year that I've had zero issues with fungi. Normally, my summer squash and cucumbers are heavily infected and coming out by now. I've already harvested more summer squash this year, than prior years, and they are still producing. I'll be starting my falll garden soon, so they will be coming out of the ground in about six weeks.
Puma? Wow!
@@CliffWarren The mail lady saw a large puma at the end of our driveway at about 2:00 pm days before the last cat disappeared-dinner for puma. I just got some baby hens, and assembled a hen house for them. I have a 10W x 13L x 6.5H scheduled for delivery Monday. I am going to have to make the hen house predator proof. I live out in the sticks, so plenty of predators, bobcat, bear, possum, racoon, puma, coyote, gray & red fox, hawks, about every venomous snake, and more. I don't go out at night if it can be avoided. If I do, I carry a loaded rifle-just in case.
What diseases are you battling in your garden this summer? Thanks for gardening with us! -CaliKim & CameraGuy

Such a sweet comment and really fuels me to keep shooting the videos - Thank you. Please tell me you are a subscriber!! You are so welcome! Kim
@@CaliKim29 Yes, long-time subscriber here in Orange County California and have purchased your books, grow bags and seeds. You got me hooked on growing Tiny Tim Tomatoes in my Greenstalks. :) I have another question - on your squash video you said that we didn't have the squash vine borers here in California, did I hear that correctly? That would be great news!
Thank you, Donna....I am sorry for missing that you have ordered, etc. And thank you, too, for that!.....
You heard me correct, vine borers are only East of the Rockies. (thank goodness, LOL!!) Kim
Do you know that the aphid causes powdery mildew . Their spit sap they put out on the plant it eventually covers the Leaves then your leaves start too get black and white mildew on the leaves.
Thanks for your great videos, I follow them closely. One off topic question if I may - how are your blackberry vines progressing after the transplant and will they produce berries this season? I've been waiting in the hope you may post a video on their progress. Thank you once again.
They are doing great and will be harvesting in a month or so!! Let me see how we can work a quick shot in on their progress; perhaps on my monthly garden tour this week ! That was very nice of you, Thank you!! CK
@@CaliKim29 Thank you, I will look forward to seeing their progress.
Haha my spray bottle collection has also accumulated. -Ricky from Youngstown.
Too funny!!! Same here! CK
👏🏾👏🏾. Excellent tips.
Glad it was helpful, Ashas. Are you battling any diseases in your garden? Now you have a plan to fight them!
Wondering why you have Sage in with the tomato plant?
Thanks for this video. Great info as always! Once I make the solution for the spray (any of the products really), what’s the shelf life for the solution?
Thank you and I am glad it was helpful! Let me find out @ the shelf life, Amber! CK
Will Take Down kill the good bugs too? Should we avoid plants that need pollinators?
Yes, but not in the early evening when pollinators are not out! Gotta' protect them!!! CK
Good kim how many gourds should I put in my 10-gallon smart pot😊😊
Hey Keith - glad you enjoyed the video Gourds are large plants, I recommend planting 2, then see which plant grows the strongest and thinning down to just one plant a few weeks after planting. Make sure to install a trellis - have fun!
The leaves on my Chefs choice orange tomato are curling up. Is this stress or some kind of disease?
Could be either of the items below - see which one best fits your scenario, Renee.
Water Stress: Both overwatering and underwatering can cause leaf curling. Check the soil moisture level to ensure it's consistent but not waterlogged.
Temperature Extremes: High temperatures can cause leaf curling as the plant tries to conserve moisture.
Wind: Strong winds can cause physical stress to the plant, leading to leaf curl.
Herbicide Damage: Exposure to herbicides, either through drift or contaminated compost, can cause leaves to curl.
Do any of these resonate? Kim
@@CaliKim29 I don’t think it’s a watering issue, I have drip set for twice a day. It may very well be the wind. We’ve had some pretty blustery days here lately. When the Terminix man comes I make sure he doesn’t go near my garden beds! Ugh. The plant is still putting out tomatoes it just looks worse for the wear.
Agreed. Strong winds can break stems, leaves, and branches, leading to reduced plant vigor and fruit production. And, wind can increase the rate of water evaporation from both the soil and the plant leaves, leading to dehydration...
Will these help with blight?
Hi Jackeeo - blight is a hard disease so it will not make the spots go away on the leaves, but it will help stop the spread, especially if you catch it early. Your best bet is to prune the affected leaves and spray the rest of the plant to control the spread. Hope this helps - keep us posted!
@@CaliKim29 I am not dealing with it yet but it's been an issue the last 2 grow seasons. I am diligent about removing effected leaves but it's not enough. I may try the product you suggested. I also heard good things about Garden Sentinel™ Organic Broad-Spectrum Biofungicide
Is that stuff safe for pollinators?
No. I say in the video to apply in the evening! CK
@@CaliKim29 Yes, I saw that, but you didn't say if it was dangerous to pollinators, you only said once they are done for the day.
I see what you mean. Yes, it is not good for pollinators leading up to and including death, therefore apply in the evening.
Maybe I missed it, did you say those products are organic?
Yepper! They sure are!
