I''ve spent nearly 50 years in country radio and I can confirm that the song EL PASO was a radio DJ's bathroom song! Nearly every other song was 2:30 seconds, EL PASO was 4:39 or so. Grew up in Arizona where Marty was from. I was honored to know Marty's twin sister Mamie and his son Ronnie Robbins. Boy, what a resemblance Ronnie has to his dad. Marty was one of the greatest ballad songwriters and best voice in any music genre.
He is as wonderful as his father. His voice is so unbelievable like his fathers, love it as much as I love to listen to his dad, thank you Ronnie for this wonderful voice !
Had a very very young age, I was fortunate enough to see Marty sing this song live at Knott's Berry farm. A memory I will never forget. Also, Peter Paul and Mary were performing that night as well. How can I ever forget.
That was Jimmy Capps, he played with a lot of great artists, but I really like the stuff he did with the Louvin Brothers: ua-cam.com/video/I_YT_4bxcWI/v-deo.html
Hi from a retired Aussie Veteran who started as a volunteer on the RAAF Radio Station in Butterworth, Malaysia in the late 1970's and again after 2002 I volunteered at 3 community radio stations around Brisbane, Queensland again in the country genre. Following 2011 I again volunteered at 3 community stations around Rockhampton, Central Queensland in country and easy listening music. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from Down Under.
Ronny has a lot of his dad's humor and mannerisms amazing talent of coarse I'm 73 and Mom was 97 this year she passed so we are and we're long time fans
Thank you for keeping your father's legacy alive. Marty Robbins was a story teller like no other, his words and music could create such a vivid story and I don't know of anyone else that could do it like him. Cowboy in a Continental suit is one of my favorites, but. El Paso takes me back to riding in my Grandpa's truck and listening to this gem on 8-track, I can almost smell his cigars.
Ronnie, I want you to know that I loved listening to your dad. I have been married for almost 56 years and one night 30 plus years ago, my husband came into the room where I was watching videos of Marty and told me a story about meeting Marty when he was in Memphis while in the Navy and going to school to become an airplane mechanic. He and his friend Bob went downtown to a bar and there was Marty. He asked them to sit down and have a drink with him. It was a wonderful experience for an 18 year old kid and I have sent my thanks to your dad many times.
Wow! What a privilege! Thank you for presenting this. I haven't heard Marty Robbins in many years. To hear his son perform one of my favorite songs is wonderful. Thank you. Roddie, you did well!
love this, gunfighter ballads was my dads album, i have it now, hes long gone and im 61 years old, older than he was when he passed, but when i hear this im a kid again .......
I am very sorry that you lost your father. I lost mine in 1996. Mom went in 2000. I miss them always and miss hearing them sing separately and together. They were great singers and musicians.
4:28 Ronnie sounds like his Dad and has his wonderful sense of humor..loved when he sang with Dad Marty Robbins Big mouthin around they sounded just alike ❤
What a beautiful voice , Ronnie just sounds like his Dad, great song El Paso, been to Elpaso Airport passing through to Houston , many years back in 1984, Thank you for putting this song on youtube, Regards Best Wishes Trevor.W.Bacelli, Biloela Qld Australia.
That was fun! I just discovered a couple months ago that there are actually 2 other songs written after this to continue the story. Which was really fun to discover!
I had the honor of seeing your Father, Marty Robbins perform at a live concert in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario Canada, around 40 years ago. He had 3 buses parked out side the hockey arena he was doing his concert at. I shall never forget , what it said on the sign on the top of the Bus.: Nobody you've heard of. I also have been to Laredo Texas, another song of his. You sir, have done your dad, a great honor. Thanks
I had the pleasure of touring Israel with his sweet mother about thirty years ago. She was my seat mate on the tour bus. We toured the Holy Land with George Otis. God bless!
What a awesome song, love it. You singing this song reminds me of your dad. You sing just like him, your dad was a wonderful man and could sing. I miss your dad, he sure has a wonderful to carry on for him❤..❤😊
in 2013 I became the proud mamma of a little female chihuahua pup. I was mulling over a name for her and this song from my younger days, popped into my head. I sang the song to myself but just to the line which contained “Rosa’s cantina” and I knew what my fur baby would be called. By the way I am Australian not American.
i miss watching the diner on Saturday nights. our cable company dumped RFD TV about 3-4 years ago and haven't been able to watch it since. a darn shame too since my wife and i both loved the show.
I remember that the disc jockeys said it was too long and nobody would listen too it. It straight to #1 and parked there and the Radio prognosticators had to eat their words with no Catsup. I think they were more than happy to be wrong. God Bless You Ronnie, you are every bit as good, if not better, than those who would critique you. Just keep singing, we'll keep listening.
I played this song for my mom before she died, I looked to see what she thought, she was in tears, asking me why would you play something so sad. A pure heart in any event.
Only 2 ,him and his sister Janet. Their true surname is Robinson. Marty's name was Martin David Robinson his wife was Marizona Robinson. They are interred in Nashville Tennessee. He was only 57 when he passed in dec. 1982 complications of a heart attack
Thank you t o share your son in nice to meet your son good looking like father nice voice to father and Son congrates good luck bless your familys have a good day amen
When I was a kid, I practically wore out Marty Robbins' "Gunfighter Ballads" Half a century later I could (probably) still sing every song on it. Too bad they didn't have time to perform "El Paso" in its entirety.
Wow. Some parents leave their children an inheritance of money and maybe land, on their passing. Ronnie's dad left him a book of songs, and a few things to laugh about, it appears. To me, that's a gift that keeps on giving.
More than a quarter of a century ago I was stationed at Fort Bilss in El Paso when I was a young 2nd Lieutenant. It was in that fall of 1996 when I met and fell in love with the most beautiful woman I had ever seen. Due to a quirk of fate, I did not find the courage to make her my wife, although I believe today that she wished for it. Now, 27 years later, I am a "full bird" Colonel. I have never been married. And not a single day passes by on which I don't think of my beautiful Angel and those days back in El Paso.

I didn't know until 15 minutes ago that Ronny Robbins existed, but I'm impressed! Also, the man playing the guitar behind him is incredible.
That was Jimmy Capps, he played with a lot of great artists, but I really like the stuff he did with the Louvin Brothers: ua-cam.com/video/I_YT_4bxcWI/v-deo.html

I grew up on Marty Robbins as well as all the singers bad then when country wasn't cool. So glad that Ronny is carring on the legacy.
i miss watching the diner on Saturday nights. our cable company dumped RFD TV about 3-4 years ago and haven't been able to watch it since. a darn shame too since my wife and i both loved the show.

For sure. I hope he knows we love him, too. Forget the critics and sing your heart out.

When I was a kid, I practically wore out Marty Robbins' "Gunfighter Ballads" Half a century later I could (probably) still sing every song on it.
Too bad they didn't have time to perform "El Paso" in its entirety.
