I’m so happy to see people are still here in 2024. I would listen to this song REPEATEDLY. Something just reminded me of this song and … here I am again. Adding this to my playlist so that it never gets lost again
Just saw him live in Portland last night. He played this song. This song got me through one of the hardest and most traumatic times in my life. I was overseas for 3 months, mostly on my own. If I had a boat, I would have sailed back, but I didn't. I stuck it out. And listened to his music everyday to get me through it ❤
Golden, golden, golden river run To the East then drop beneath the sun And as the moon lies low and overhead We're lost Burn slow, burning up the back wall Long roads, where the city meets the sky Most days, most days stay the sole same Please stay, for this fear it will not die If I had a boat, I would sail to you Hold you in my arms, ask you to be true Once I had a dream, it died long before Now I'm pointed north, hoping for the shore Down low, down amongst the thorn rows Weeds grow, through the lilies and the vine Birds play, try to find their own way Soft clay, on your feet and under mine If I had a boat, I would sail to you Hold you in my arms, ask you to be true Once I had a dream, it died long before Now I'm pointed north, hoping for the shore Splitting at the seams Heaving at the brace Sheets all billowing Breaking of the day Sea is not my friend And everyone conspires Still I choose to swim Slip beneath the tide Once I had a dream Once I had a hope That was yesterday Not so long ago This is not the end This is just the world Such a foolish thing Such an honest girl If I had a boat, I would sail to you Hold you in my arms, ask you to be true Once I had a dream, it died long before Now I'm pointed north, hoping for the shore
Whoever decided to add this song to the Silent Hill Downpour soundtrack was beyond insightful. This song is haunting and adds to the already great mood created by the game developers. Loving it and it's still playing on my iPhone since the release of the game.
This song makes me cry. Because when i listen it , think about one person. I don't know why but i think that this person is in a deep place of my mind.
How can people not like this? I dont even... seriously, listening to him sing live, without the band, at an intimate gig of 100 people is a great experience I'd love to revisit.
This guy is just awesome. I mean, there are lots of good singers out there of course but this kind of music and the way James does his job... well, man, I'd spend the rest of my life listening to it.
this song is one of the best i've hear in many years, despite him being unique he reminds me of all my favourite artists. he deserves so much more success than he currently has
Came here from Mayans MC, checked out some other music by him and was not disappointed at all. I love a lot of different type of music but this wonderful too. It has this spiritual vibe. Not in a religious way, but a soulful way.
I keep returning to this as a point of reference for my own recordings.. wish I could take a peek in one of sessions and learn how he gets those dreamy reverbs!
When this song came out, I was going through hell, I was 17 and this song was my anthem, everyday all day. Here I am ten years later, going through hell -yet again- and I just catched my self humming the chorus. I don't know how to describe it, but I'm having goosebumps, life is strange, and this song soothed my night a bit.
What a singer!!! I've just been introduced to JVM via a photographer contact on flickr.com, who posted this link to accompany a photo that he'd uploaded of a prow of a boat on a lakeside. Thanks Nelson!! :-)
Ended up here because I was doing a web search on this song here, that I had heard in a video game titled; ""Silent Hill: Downpour"!. Now its a dear Bookmark of mine!.. - Happy Gaming :D
Saw this guy play the Royal Albert Hall last night supporting City and Colour. His voice is awesome, absolutely haunting. Stole the show from Dallas Green, and that's hard to do.

I love him not just for his beautiful music, but the literary artistry of his lyrics. It's like poetry set to a melody.

'Sea is not my friend & everyone conspires. Still I choose to swim, slip beneath the tide'... My fav lines
god his songs are just perfection
Pure ear candy - every hook has held a high position in my shower singing rotation.
Golden, golden, golden river run
To the East then drop beneath the sun
And as the moon lies low and overhead
We're lost
Burn slow, burning up the back wall
Long roads, where the city meets the sky
Most days, most days stay the sole same
Please stay, for this fear it will not die
If I had a boat, I would sail to you
Hold you in my arms, ask you to be true
Once I had a dream, it died long before
Now I'm pointed north, hoping for the shore
Down low, down amongst the thorn rows
Weeds grow, through the lilies and the vine
Birds play, try to find their own way
Soft clay, on your feet and under mine
If I had a boat, I would sail to you
Hold you in my arms, ask you to be true
Once I had a dream, it died long before
Now I'm pointed north, hoping for the shore
Splitting at the seams
Heaving at the brace
Sheets all billowing
Breaking of the day
Sea is not my friend
And everyone conspires
Still I choose to swim
Slip beneath the tide
Once I had a dream
Once I had a hope
That was yesterday
Not so long ago
This is not the end
This is just the world
Such a foolish thing
Such an honest girl
If I had a boat, I would sail to you
Hold you in my arms, ask you to be true
Once I had a dream, it died long before
Now I'm pointed north, hoping for the shore
You are doing the Lord's work.
