As a spokesperson for the victims family I want to explain that this isn’t really an issue against cyclists. This was a thug wearing a balaclava on an electric bike tearing through the pedestrian town centre without lights and acting menacing. He startled the victim and then approached him with violence. Sad that the media have gotten this confused… this scum bag isn’t a “cyclist” and this isn’t a fight against general cyclists at all. Would be happy to have a conversation and shed some light on this case. The victim was an elderly man and was attacked and killed, his killer got 5.5 years for what’s essentially murder.
Sincere condolences to the family here I cannot overstate that . Next @phiw4157 thank you for adding context. This is about pure criminality and end of a person's life .......if you want a general debate about cycling standards (or lack of ) be respectful and take it to a more appropriate venue. What if this gentleman was a member of your family ?
@@phiw4157 isn't it sad that Mike Graham just sees it as an excuse to slag off cyclists in general yet again, whereas in fact it's the people riding around on illegal e- bikes that are an increasing problem and sadly the police do not have sufficient resources to deal with them all.
this must be heartbreaking but you've called that right, he was a thug, not a 'cyclist', thankyou for raising this in what must be a very emotional time for all concerned. the headlines for this are putting decent cyclists at risk with such headlines to.
@@keithbrowes1974 I agree with you, except for the last part "sadly the police do not have sufficient resources to deal with them all" - the do have the resources, but they are misusing those resources!! We've all seen people being harrassed and arrested for having opinions!! The problem is they don't want to try to deal with real crime!
Fair comment... But needing to be able to identify a specific criminal cyclist by his plate or to stop him immediately because he hasn't got one, among the very many more on city roads is what is at issue... As for no one looking for evidence in a homicide, a cycle v car hit and run, that's balls... Around here there are no traffic cameras... Too many country lanes and junctions are a risk like this bloke was claiming... But. Does he really think that cops are going to look at every car that left multiple towns and villages near here, on shop cctv and door bell cams in the hope that one out of the thousands leaving or entering a camera zone, did the deed? I can actually travel 15 different ways to get to the same places... Why might cops even if numbers showed on door bell cams, follow up thousands of car sightings to even then only have a circumstantial suspicion that Mr X did it? Hypothetically. A cyclist on Marylebone Road kills a ped today... how might you feel if every cyclist on that road and the surroundings tomorrow were stopped, detained and interviewed at length and I/Ds taken?
When I lived in London back in the 90's and early 2000's i was amazed at the insanity of cyclists, the aggression and entitlement. They need to live in fear of the law....and NO CYCLING ON THE PAVEMENTS. Mandatory insurance and a reg plate! And I'm a cyclist...i have 3 bikes...electric, MTB and hybrid....but I'm sick of the lack of manners of many cyclists.
It wasn't like that in the 1970's and 1980's when only poor folk or children were on bikes. These modern day Lycra idiots were the same scum who were driving the BMWs in the 1970s and 1980's.
You can ride on the pavement in certain scenarios with caution eg if you are bothered by the motorised traffic or the weather is so nasty that the pavement feels safer. So cycling on the pavement itself is not completely illegal. It used to be the case that cyclists were forced to have numberplates, but it was so expensive that they decided to delete this law, considering how many cyclists were penalized, they were unable to gather enough money from the penalties. And if you want to donate your money to the government for owning and riding bicycles simply because your opinion is that cyclists should pay road tax too then you can do it too, but don't try to make other people believe that they also should donate money to the government for riding bicycles. Are pedestrians pay pavement tax for walking on it? No they don't, it's covered by the general tax since people and people plus a bicycle are not 2 ton vehicles that spoil road surfaces overtime.
I am a cyclist myself, and I feel appalled by this cyclist behaviour in response to the man. I agree that he should have gotten a longer jail time for killing someone. But there is also a more profound problem here that, if solved by law and by culture, would prevent cyclists to use the sidewalk. I'm referring to the behaviour of drivers of cars that constantly put cyclists at risk of life when riding on roads. I'm not defending that cyclist should use the pavement, I'm saying that cyclists should use the roads but roads NEED TO BE safer for cyclists.
Im a cyclist and motorcyclist. Lets be fair, the rules all changed with the introduction of ebikes. As a kid, any of you ever had to pedal away from a group of knobeads on a dirt jumper with a low gear ratio? its hard work. This same reason you never went round causing trouble. Someone would chase you down and give you a clout. Logic. With an ebike you have a licence-dodging semi-motorcycle that can move at 20mph, 30+ if you know what youre doing with wiring, that can get away from ANYONE on foot, beat a lot of police vehicles around the estates, gives off hardly any heat signature and you can hide easily. Its not cyclists, its thugs who would have always been bstards getting smarter and taking more chances.
I had a friend whose husband started a new job in Hastings, a few years ago. She didn’t drive, and new to the area, decided to cycle along the promenade from where they lived, to Hastings library to join. It was a wild, windy day, not a soul to be seen on the prom. Suddenly an overweight police officer appeared, held,up his hand, and stopped her. Asked “what do you think you’re doing?” She explained she was on her way to the library, and had just moved to the area. He told her she could have knocked down an old lady. Asked for her name and address, and treated her appallingly. As I said, not a person was around. What a welcome to the town. Her husband had taken a job at the local council too. Now, older, and living on the coast, although a different town, it’s impossible for her to walk along the local promenade because of cyclists, sometimes 2 or 3 abreast. How times change. .
Please don't tar all cyclists with the same brush. I have third party liability on my bike just incase a pedestrian just walks out in front of me without looking. Don't forget pedestrians walk across cycle lanes without looking. The roads are appalling and dangerous to cycle on, motorist's know the roads are bad and complain so imagine being a cyclist. I don't ride on the pavement as when I first started cycling you couldn't ride on the pavement if your bike wheels were over a certain size. I rarely take my bike on the pavement, only at really dangerous junctions where it is safer to cross the junction by using the pedestrian crossing.
I've had an A hole cyclist like you nearly push me and my toddler son into a canal when we were legally walking along a towpath , Go stick your third party liability where the sun doesn't shine
I agree with everything you've said. the above accident that happened, was caused by some scrote, and should be dealt with under the law.and its illegal to ride on the pavements, you are also required to register/licence your bike for canal paths. there are things in place.
@@imapersonnotanumber8940 I didn't know that about canal paths, you learn something new every day. Mind you I don't have any canal paths local to me so have never cycled along those types of routes.
@@imapersonnotanumber8940You have been misinformed. From the horse’s mouth, the Canals and Rivers Trust: “We welcome all considerate cyclists to our towpaths and you don't need a permit.”
When I was growing up back in the 70's . The only people that would get away with riding on the pavements were toddlers with their parents walking with them. I think all bikes should have a number plate and they should have to pay insurance. I also think that guy should have got 15 years.
but was this a hit and run accident? at what age do you start paying insurance? its also illegal to cycle on footpaths. the get have been trying to push for climate change for years, so cycling apart from buying the bikes which are already expensive, would make it more expensive. and it wouldn't have made any more difference in this hit and run case. this was a crime committed by a bad person doing something illegal. there are, and everyone knows, some scummy self entitled, usually the wealthy, with all the gear on, cycle in teams, who are a scurge, on canal paths, roads, towns and cities, that use bright lights, speed, dont have bells. I wonder if you put a registration on a bike, how big would this be? it would be tiny, no-one could see this? so it wouldn't make any difference. also on canal paths there has always been a law in place that you need to get a license/register bike to cycle. This was a horrible accident committed by someone terrible. its another erosion of freedom, and the cost of insurance ( if cyclist gets caught), that will deter or make it unaffordable.
2 Answers here. Firstly, Yes, it is against the law to cycle on pavements in the UK. It states under the Highway Code Rule 64 that as a cyclist, you must not cycle on the pavement. This is also backed up by law, under the Highway Act 1835, and Roads (Scotland) Act 1984. and Secondly, from UK Cycling Laws - Updated for 2024 Cyclists don’t have the right to cycle on pavements in the UK, but it’s not a criminal offence. Mind you, in 1999, the Government introduced a fixed penalty, which means you could face a fine of up to £500.
There is a video on you tube where people are using a crossing when a dick on a bike goes through the red stoplight nearly hits a pedestrian who calls him an idiot but then carries on walking to the pavement, the cyclist follows him to the pavement headbutts him to the ground gets on his bike and rides away so is that person a cyclist or a thug?
It is terrible and I think most cyclists on London's roads are absolute arseholes, jumping lights and all over the road. Im a very keen cyclist, out training as much during the week as possible, so I am not gonna stick up for the clowns out there that give all a bad name. Come on tho Mike, calm down and give the interviewee a chance to speak!
Oh fuxk off @verdeboyo you cu_nt, I'm ex plod, if some-one like Mike Graham asked me to validate my allegation of a crime from even 40 years ago I could, I wouldn't be saying "It happens all the time, but I can't tell you of a particular incident or how often, just take my word for it 'cos I said so" This 'solicitor' Kevin O'Sullivan is a lying turd who advocates for and excuses scum and won't take responsibility for the actions of his clients and their wider pier group. For the most part, casual adult use of a cycle (from the shed) could be covered by existing, licence and motor insurance for 3rd party liability. The fact is @verdeboyo you could be struck by a cycle today, suffer a broken limb (costing £1000K+ paid for by NHS tax payers) or you could suffer dental injuries which could easily rise to £10k for which you would have to pay privately, while the human excrement (same as you) cyclist would ride off unsanctioned. It would cost very little to have all cycles marked on the frame or behind the saddle with a unique number. The fact is we have a situation in the country where police are happy to issue RTA fines/penalty points to motorist, on the paltry, uncorroborated evidence of their private go pro, in for example minor non-contact infringements such as failing to give way to undertaking cyclists (an offence for any other road user) And YES YOU CU_NT I can give you prosecution of such. But the same Plod would do nothing if a cyclist committed a moving violation or damaged property - unless of course the cycle ran into a police car and damaged it's woke pro LGBT+ logos.
@@imapersonnotanumber8940 Don't blame you cos the roads are so dangerous. Every ride I encounter at least one very close call and few weeks ago a dickhead in a little van decided to fly past me within inches while hand on the horn to startle me and just for the fun of it!
Love Mike - talks the truth and you can’t pull the wool over his eyes. This bloke talks rubbish - why on earth would you be against registration for cyclists unless you just think you’re too special to be regulated - ridiculous
Mike displaying his usual anti cycling retoric, registration doesn't stop some car drivers driving like idiots so how in earth is cycle registration going to work even if it could be applied!
@@barriewilliams4526don't worry, the government have no plans to introduce registration for cycles as they know it would be a complete waste of taxpayers money , would be totally unworkable and do absolutely nothing to improve road safety, unfortunately all that goes above mikes head as he just simply too thick to realise!
They need to seperate spaces from bikes and pedestrians in all cases. They are putting up shared spaces signs near me and if I’m walking I don’t feel safe.
it used to be that you were insured on your bike if you had house insurance as part of the general 'personal injury caused' bit. But I suppose the insurance companies have removed that one!!
Could be worth remembering that an average of 5 people are killed and around 80 are injured on UK roads in a daily basis so perhaps cars should be banned!
@susanwestern6434 No but they are usually doing faster than that on the road where disabled people and pushchair users are forced onto when they block pavements off completely
E bikes should be registered, insured and the riders should have to pass a “driving” test. It should be an arrest-able offence to ride around on souped-up e bikes and e scooters while wearing a face mask and “hoodie” or a balaclava, as they are clearly up to no good. It is time for the government to ban all illegal e-bikes and scooters. When I was living in Sweden all cycles had registration plates and no one was bothered by it.
This story has nothing to do with cyclists - this was a violent thug who happened to be on a bicycle. Get a grip. If cyclists are being labelled as cold hearted killers then based on road death figures that makes car drivers psychopathic maniacs just based on how many deaths are caused by drivers as opposed to cyclists. So as I say get some perspective - this is just utter rubbish. As for registration where does it start and end - does a kid on a tricycle need a license? as I say utter rubbish.
The ones who annoy me are the lunatic mountain bikers who think it's fine to go hurtling flat out along footpaths in the countryside and forests expecting people out for a walk to leap out of their way. There are a few that will slow down or stop to let walkers pass by, but the majority don't seem to give a toss and think they own the bloody paths!
It doesn’t just happen in the countryside. I live in a very large, very busy village (it’s practically a small town) and ignorant cyclists won’t use the roads, instead the fly down the pavements and expect pedestrians to get out of THEIR way. Yes they should be registered, taxed and insured for the safety of pedestrians 🤬
@James-tv4pl Sadly for hikers and bikers alike the problem often is that many of the advertised dedicated bike trails by councils are not dedicated but are marketed as such. As a keen hiker who uses os to get around the funniest thing I saw was an old road bike being ridden painfully slow on a rocky coastal path by a sandal wearing OAP, we heard it coming from a mile away it was squealing 😂
Cycling is not only dangerous and unacceptable, it is totally illegal, so should not be on the pavement, except when its a shared pavement or cycle path. The police don’t seem to do anything about it.
Thanks Mike for labelling me as the scum of the earth! I cycle out of necessity whilst waiting to buy an affordable car. Off and on I have cycled for nearly 60 years. I don't cycle on the path. I wait at traffic lights as I should and don't overtake cars in slow traffic. In short, as far as I am aware, I abide by the highway code. To be labelled as scum because some cyclists are inconsiderate is not on. I don't label all motorists as scum just because some have no idea how to drive and regularly cut up cyclists and force them into the gutter or off their bikes. Or pull out in front of them. Etc. As always it is the behaviour of the worst that gives ordinary sensible people a bad name. In this case, scum. Have a good weekend
I'm 71 and have cycled on and off all my life, as a small child we had tricycles on which we'd ride up and down the cobbled street in the area of Leeds in which we lived. I was taught from that early age that it's illegal to cycle on pavements. The problem is that there are not enough police about to enforce the laws regarding cycling on pavements. Vehicle hit and runs are often by people who have no license, no insurance, no MOT and probably on cloned/ false number plates. - In 2022, 91 pedal cyclists were killed in Great Britain, whilst 4,056 were reported to be seriously injured (adjusted) and 11,546 slightly injured (adjusted).
How is this guy a journalist. He’s just spreading hate speech. He’s saying cyclists are the scum of the earth, cyclist do this and do that but when given from someone else’s POV who works in the industry he demands statistics that he won’t have to hand and because he can’t provide them he’s apparently lying. The minority does not represent the majority. More deaths occur from people in cars but that doesn’t mean all car drivers a dangerous. People can be dangerous whether they’re driving a car, riding a bike or on foot.
Back in the late 80's I stayed behind after school and took part in a short course and ultimately sat a cycling proficiency set. Since then I've known the rules clearly and followed them. Maybe it should be brought back into schools. Education is vital.
Appalling logic. If a motorist were criticised for parking their car badly by a pensioner who then argued with them over the way they'd parked it but got punched by the motorist and the pensioner died WOULD THAT MAKE ALL MOTORISTS SCUMBAGS?????? Now who's Plank of the Week?
5 years 4 months... An angry attendee at a "riot" with two years off for guilty plea is still doing 4 years and 4 months... Just today ffs! A whole year longer than a killer...
I agree that many cyclists behave shockingly on Britain's roads, particularly these delivery riders on electric bikes but to say all cyclists are scum of the earth is going abit overboard
All tax payers pay for the road, , if you're unemployed and dont pay tax then you should not use the roads. vehicle excise duty is not a right to use the road it is a tax on the vehicle and just goes into the treasury coffer to be spent on anyhting.
In that case I think pedestrians should also have to do all those things as well, I suggest that you Google as to how roads are actually funded, you might also find out that road tax was abolished in 1937 and also that 84 percent on adult cyclists also drive so have already passed a test!
@@janettetaylor8760 It uncheckable what you claim. I can go onto a public database (AskMID) and check any vehicle for insurance. You cannot do that for a cyclist. I would be happy to wager that 95% + of cyclists are uninsured. The only exception being cycle club members. And even then, I doubt it's comprehensive cover.
I like Mike, but I think he's well out of his depth here. He hasn't researched what e-bikes actually are. He just thinks they are all the same heavyweight, high-speed, illegal e-bikes. They are not! And it's customs' fault for letting them through when every other country is holding them when they come off the ships just now! He needs to get on a bike himself and see how aggressive we drivers are to cyclists! When you are both the driver and cyclist, you become a better, safer driver, being more driver-friendly towards your fellow cyclists who are doing nothing but trying to live longer and lose a few pounds to get that bit more healthy!
Mike always complains about cyclists, riding on pavements and going through red lights yet thousands of car drivers do a lot worse and kill hundreds of people every year. Many motorists break the Speed limits, illegally use mobile phones, jump red lights, go the wrong way on one way streets, park on pavements, drive without insurance, drive with cars not fit to be on the road, drive dangerously etc etc. They are massively more dangerous than cyclists. Why doesn't he do a show about how dangerous motorists are compared to cyclists. I remember last year when he was bragging about doing 90mph in a 50mph zone, while on holiday in, I think Italy, because he said the police weren't as bothered over there by speeding motorists. How irresponsible was he and imagine if he had caused a death by doing that
It is estimated that there are approximately 30 millions cycles in the UK. Admittedly many lie dormant and unused in garages and sheds. To licence these bikes would be a logistical nightmare. The authorities can’t even cope with the illegal E bikes, Scooters electric skateboards and Segways that they are supposed to confiscate if used on the roads. Us cyclists are merely pedestrians that happen to have a bike with us. I will continue to ride with impunity whilst conducting constant risk assessments in order to keep myself and more vulnerable pedestrians safe. Normally I’m in agreeance with Mike Grahams expostulations but I fear for his personal safety if I ever see him stray into my cycle lane.
a life has been lost & that fact got lost behind the childish presenter's arrogant rantings, what a complete cockwomble, he should nominate himself for Plank Of The Week.
Apart from as a child, I've never cycled on the pavement and most cyclists wouldn't so I dispute the very idea of him being a cyclist, firstly because he was on an electric bike which is not quite the same thing as a push bike. In all likelihood, he's a criminal on an electric bike as opposed to on a motor scooter. One of the problems has been the conversion of pavement usage into cycle lanes. I think it sent out the wrong message and people use their bikes on the pavement when they should be on the road. I do use cycle lanes myself but go onto the road where appropriate. As for other people who have commented, I do stop at traffic lights along with many other cyclists. I think you will find it is largely youths that you find often not waiting at traffic lights. They're actually pratting around but it's the only form of transport other than for a motorised scooter they probably have access to.
So there’s uproar that the government want to stop smoking outside which is an unhealthy past time.. But something healthy like cycling and people want to string cyclist up… Cars break the law every day by doing 35/40 in 30mph roads. There’s good and bad cyclist and car drivers. We all pay tax so we should all get along and share the roads.
Around my neighbour, they ride 2-3 abreast without any sort of consideration to the cars they’re holding up… and then they moan if I don’t give them their 1.5 metres 🙄
I totally get that, asteve. I've been forced to use my bike now, because of the costs involved for me running a car, so I sold it. But if I'm on a main road, and I see a queue building up behind me, I will always pull over to let the traffic flow. I've been stuck behind inconsiderate cyclists, when driving, and I am convinced they do it on purpose.
Again generalist speech doesn’t help. They think…. Not all some and by percentage a very small amount. Don’t blame the cyclist blame the infrastructure.
The point of riding two abreast simply reduces the distance vehicles are required to pass safely, the alternative being that the passing vehicle may not be able to complete the pass. The high code encourages this for safety when riding in groups i.e. larger group, therefore more visible. Ultimately it’s a case of everyone being considerate and remaining safe.
Lots of cyclists are also motorists yet they change their attitude when they get on a Bike usually when in a Group and dressed in Lycra they think the road belongs to them they ride down winding country roads 4 abreast and will not move over for cars and such to pass ! If you are a adult and ride a cycle you should be insured and register with DVLA electric scooters and Bikes should also pay road tax this guy is living in the Forty's
I cycle a lot, and the bike groups with all the gear on are a scurge to pedestrians and other real cyclist. The management team, cycle in packs with all the gear on, full beam headlights, no bells, both on canal country paths and the roads....
What does Lycra have to do with it? You wouldn't play football in a dressing gown would you? Road tax was abolished in the 30s. You really couldn't be a more stereotypical carsole.
Many green cycle lanes have been put into cities all over the UK at taxpayers expense and they are hardly used. Cyclists will ride on the road instead and should be fined for doing so. If not then ban councils from wasting money on the scheme.
In the cyclists defence a lot of them are overgrown ,not maintained by the councils,on the other hand where they are provided the y should be maintained properly and an offence to ride on the road where they are provided!.🤔
Glass, holes, no lighting, people walking in your lane, gravel everywhere..Get on a bike and see for yourself instead of going along with the usual suspects for easy pats on the back!
Time to stop worrying about confected barriers to cycling! The issue with pavement cycling is not about resources, it is about behaviour and living amicably in a sociable community. Visible registration plates would not only weed out careless cyclists who habitually break the law but, for the benefit of all cyclists, reduce theft. Registration would make enforcement possible. Whether the police would have time for that in between trawling through social media for "hate speech" woul dbe another matter. In the case of Nathan Pilling it was not the police who apprehened him by joe public. Why? Because the police (noun indicating status) do not police (verb indicating action) the streets.
In Australia they changed the law to allow cycling on the pavement, as a way to ensure cyclists are safer when navigating dangerous roads. The problem is the lack of safe cycling infrastructure that forces cyclists to use the pavement. Of course this was an outrageous attack, but let's not forget the many more pedestrians and cyclists who are killed by cars.
This is a horrific outcome, but please do not paint all cyclists with the same brush. Recently I was riding my bike with a friend, in the Netherlands mind you, and a car almost brushed my handlebar in passing (less than an inch away). So I got mad, this guy tried to kill me with his vehicle, and went after him. He ended the "conversation" with you cyclists are the problem!
I live in Hull and the roads have been taken over by cycle lanes. Still the cyclists ride on the pavenment next to the cycle lanes and the police totally ignore it.
Stupid, irresponsible headline in order to stoke more division and get clicks. Mike knows absolutely nothing about this subject. Clearly hasn’t been on a bike in a very long time, and talks like he’s the authority. Are all drivers SCUM because Kenneth Noye killed someone in a road rage incident in Swanley? No, because Noye was a nutcase driving a car. This guy was clearly an a-hole who happened to be riding a bike. As with most things in life, cyclists are on a spectrum. You get good, and you get bad and everything in between. Bit like with car drivers. For the record, I am a cyclist. And a driver and a pedestrian. I agree that if there was a way to register all cyclists, but just in practical terms how big is the reg plate going to have to be on a bike for a CCTV camera to make out the reg.
When was the last time Mike Graham got on a f***ing bike. Has he ever tried cycling on our roads today? Car drivers are selfish, impatient and bloody rude. It is very daunting and intimidating to cycle on our roads. That is why cyclists use the pavements now. Also cars are parked on pavements everywhere but I don’t hear him complaining about that
These sort of horror stories have been going on for years and all we get is excuses, lies and waffle from the so called 'cycling community'. Enough is enough, no more weasel words, the time has come for action. All road bikes must be registered and insured. The Police must punish law breakers properly and not tolerate any infringements like cycling on pavements and running red lights. We gave them an inch and they took a mile. No more excuses.
I agree with you that any law breakers should be punished accordingly. Im a motorist and a cyclist, see both sides. I daren't cycle on the roads, one because of the state of them, and the danger from other motorists. Having said that, the ones on the expensive bikes, with loads of expensive gear on are dangerous. These are also dangerous when you cycle on canal paths, on countryside lanes, and something should be done about them. bright lights, who blind people, no bells, speeding. that should be dealt with. make it illegal to cycle on pavements, make bikes and riders fit for purpose, with bells. please stop calling the cycling community and putting them down. There are some bad ones, the rest of us are ok, who struggle with the bad cyclists ( usually the management team with expensive bikes, traveling in packs, speeding. the rest of us including kids just want to cycle safely and are decent people. Also many cyclists are killed, ive been knocked over, I wont use the roads, but yet the councils put cycle paths alongside busy roads. and last I saw aren't the govt encouraging cycling to combat climate change? please do not tarnish all cyclists with 'the cycling community'
First of all, you're getting e-bikes mixed up. There are two kinds: legal, lightweight mountain bikes that are legal under UK laws with Bosch motors, Shimano, TQ, Pinion, Brose, etc. If the motor is a mid-drive, it'll be legal and lightweight and restricted to 15 mph. These are not like the rear-wheel motor e-bikes alot of youtubers are building these and selling them on to public it has to stop! they can weigh up to 50 kg. I'm an e-biker (eMTB) who spent a lot to have a legal e-bike. I hate these Chinese e-bikes that are being imported with speeds of up to 40 to 70 mph. What the heck? 15 mph is right on the limit of speed you would care about if you're not being a jerk with them! These people are giving real e-bikes a bad name! The e-bikes we ride that are legal are in no way any different from a normal bike on straight roads, etc. They only really help when riding up hills! The effort I need to put in is the same as on my normal bike, and I've never gone past 20 mph on the road when the motor cuts out. So there has to be research into these bikes before judgment is made. It's that simple!
Dog walkers with aggressive little dogs on long leads on narrow pavements are a hazard, what about parked cars on pavement, where mother with prams and disabled people in wheelchairs are forced to walk on the roads with incoming traffic, such as cars.
@@susanwestern6434 One again. Parked cars on pavement, where mother with prams and disabled people in wheelchairs are forced to walk on the roads with incoming traffic, such as cars. What if the mother and child are killed or the disabled person in their wheelchair.
I have cerebral palsy and can't walk I sometime cycling on the pavement for safety reason. Unlike the Netherlands the UK as no decent cycling infrastructure.
And all the poor who already couldn't afford those things for a car or motorcycle and thus have been forced to cycle an hour and half each way too work. Now all those poor people will be forced too walk 3 hours each way instead. 🤨
Any road user should know highway code at the very least for safety. To use a bike should require a licence to use ensuring the rider has road knowledge
Elderly Man killed by an idiot who happened to be riding a bike - it's not cycling or cyclists at fault here. Also Mike wow chill out and stop over reacting just because of your own bias - shameful treatment of your guest.
According to Mile it appears as if I go through some form of transformation whenever I leave my house. If I depart on foot I’m a victim. if I go by car I’m an overtaxed hero. My status is unclear if go by motorcycle but I instantly become scum if I cycle. Just to be clear, I refuse to ride on the pavement - that’s for pedestrians but I’m also very picky about cycle paths. Too often they are unswept, full of debris and bits of car and refuse and worst of all, bits of dangerous road furniture. Cycling hasn’t been thought through in Britain and it really needs to be done. We need some sensible thinkers to sort this out. So not cycling evangelists nor greeny ecoloons or haters like Mike or the clowns in councils we have at the moment.
I am a well in to road bike cycling, there utterly now way your should be on pavements to go cycling , kids , have a excuse for this . Big come on , get in a road and grow up . Just ridiculous behaviour
Gotta love the cyclists sense of privilege, let me own the road without any of the charges the cars are subjected to. Registering would deter cyclists? GOOD
I have ridden a bike since I was a child in the sixties and we stuck to certain rules - these days there is a certain type of cyclist who thinks they can behave in outrageous ways - so many of them do not adhere to the rules of the road which we did years ago -
Around my area rainham Kent in a lot of areas they just put up a sign next to the path to say that the path is shared path for cyclists and pedestrians, it's a joke most of them don't look where they are going.
@@phiw4157 isn't it sad that Mike Graham just sees it as an excuse to slag off cyclists in general yet again, whereas in fact it's the people riding around on illegal e- bikes that are an increasing problem and sadly the police do not have sufficient resources to deal with them all.

With that comment you arent a cyvlist
I think this accident was caused by a motor /electric scooter, not a push iron
How times change.

biggest threat of pedestrian injury these days are the food delivery riders you see everywhere in pedestrian areas in city centres.

You don't know what you are talking about!! how on earth could you police that??

Firstly, Yes, it is against the law to cycle on pavements in the UK. It states under the Highway Code Rule 64 that as a cyclist, you must not cycle on the pavement. This is also backed up by law, under the Highway Act 1835, and Roads (Scotland) Act 1984.
and Secondly, from UK Cycling Laws - Updated for 2024 Cyclists don’t have the right to cycle on pavements in the UK, but it’s not a criminal offence. Mind you, in 1999, the Government introduced a fixed penalty, which means you could face a fine of up to £500.

On the other hand, there are the idiots who go out walking on dedicated mountain bike trails expecting the bikes to slow down and stop in an instant
It doesn’t just happen in the countryside.

@@Largerider that's just silly.

It's difficult to stop cycling once you start but I do wonder why I bother 😂
the worst pedestrians are the ones with ear phones on listening to music unaware of things around them on the joint paths i call the zombies .
Around my neighbour, they ride 2-3 abreast without any sort of consideration to the cars they’re holding up… and then they moan if I don’t give them their 1.5 metres 🙄
they think the roads are just for them!
You are supposed to ride like that to give drivers more chance to overtake
Again generalist speech doesn’t help. They think…. Not all some and by percentage a very small amount. Don’t blame the cyclist blame the infrastructure.
The point of riding two abreast simply reduces the distance vehicles are required to pass safely, the alternative being that the passing vehicle may not be able to complete the pass. The high code encourages this for safety when riding in groups i.e. larger group, therefore more visible. Ultimately it’s a case of everyone being considerate and remaining safe.
From what ive witnessed, not just riding on the pavement but equally as bad on the road. 80% jump lights.
If it happens that often then you film it and post the vid?
Lots of cyclists are also motorists yet they change their attitude when they get on a Bike usually when in a Group and dressed in Lycra they think the road belongs to them they ride down winding country roads 4 abreast and will not move over for cars and such to pass !
Well I watch your show a lot which I like I'm also a lifelong cyclist but I wouldn't say I'm classed as scum of the earth.
In a pedestrian zone bikes and scooters should travel and walking pace.
How many pedestrians are killed by cars and vans and lorries? Good luck enforcing and administering registration for cyclists.
For some people driving a car is not a pleasure it is a necessity, but if it was for pleasure should they have to have their car registered?
This is a horrific outcome, but please do not paint all cyclists with the same brush. Recently I was riding my bike with a friend, in the Netherlands mind you, and a car almost brushed my handlebar in passing (less than an inch away).

Neither the dogs or the parked cars are moving at speed on a pavement.

Unlike the Netherlands the UK as no decent cycling infrastructure.
well said mike

If every road had a cycle lane people wouldn't be on the pavement - I use both for my own safety - the roads are very congested
Making the expectation the rule.
Licenced Tax mot and insuranced that will stop the ones who are idiots
Tax?🤣🤣 ya clown
And all the poor who already couldn't afford those things for a car or motorcycle and thus have been forced to cycle an hour and half each way too work. Now all those poor people will be forced too walk 3 hours each way instead. 🤨
The new highway code practice was pathetic law.
Cyclists are downright dangerous.
Show us how it's done then? Cycle for a week and then post the vid? Thought not 🙄
Any road user should know highway code at the very least for safety. To use a bike should require a licence to use ensuring the rider has road knowledge
....because if you cycle you couldn't possibly drive and have passed a test 🙄
@@godofcycling my point was about all road users not this endles battle between cyclists and drivers!
Fewer laws. More enforcement.
So not cycling evangelists nor greeny ecoloons or haters like Mike or the clowns in councils we have at the moment.
so 20 in 5 years now whats the number of pedestrians who have been hit and the cycalist rode away in that same time
It doesn't get reported as it is impossible to investigate the incidents.
Question to all cyclists.

Is it just me or does Mike graham look like jabba the hut wearing a Michael gove disguise!
I mean, most are entry egotistical and entitled
Ahahahah you drive an Audi don't you?
He's talking out his backside
Who, Mike or his guest? This time it was Mike and his guest was not up to the task.
Mike's huge backside
Cyclists are breaking the laws, they should have licence plates and tests like car drivers plus points if they break the law
Gotta love the cyclists sense of privilege, let me own the road without any of the charges the cars are subjected to. Registering would deter cyclists? GOOD
Everyone is "let down by the police".
In Greece you even see children on e-scooters
Does a person decide which comments to shove down to the bottom or is it done automatically?
I have ridden a bike since I was a child in the sixties and we stuck to certain rules - these days there is a certain type of cyclist who thinks they can behave in outrageous ways - so many of them do not adhere to the rules of the road which we did years ago -
That case has ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with being a cyclists.
Only 5 years...
Insurance, registration for identification, road tax. End of the matter.
Road tax was abolished the 30s, carsole

Around my area rainham Kent in a lot of areas they just put up a sign next to the path to say that the path is shared path for cyclists and pedestrians, it's a joke most of them don't look where they are going.
"Next to the path" exactly. It was never meant as a shared path.
Good video. I was walking down Pimlico - Belgrave Road - and nearly hit, and yet there are cycle lanes nearby. It is madness.
