Scratch Building a War of the Worlds Diorama in N Scale [Trash Bash / Diorama]

- On October 30th, 1938, CBS radio broadcasted a Halloween radio drama narrated by Orson Wells that became famous for causing panic among its radio audience. That episode was H. G. Wells' War of the Worlds. This is week four / project four of my five-week 'Halloween-themed' build challenge and I completed a 10x10 diorama inspired by the radio drama.
The alien tripod ship was trash-bashed from a spray bottle head, a collection of found bits of plastic and wood, and polymer clay. The building was constructed using the front facade from an Outland Models kit, 2mm styrene sheet and 3D printed details.
Thanks for watching!

LOL THE MINI Toilet also great build the fighting machine was really awesome! 😮👍
I love how you were able to craft a Martian Tripod out of such common items! Your Trash Bashing skills are as fantastic as your standard modelling skills! :D
The spray bottle war machine head was a happy accident! You can thank 'CLR' for doing most of the hard work.
So good! Loved hearing the broadcast in the background. And the mini toilet.
The mini toilet thrilled me. I chuckled far too long about it.
Incredible. Nice job with the building, but the War of the Worlds alien was spot on!
I've been rewatching your videos and an I love them and I'm a big War of the Worlds fan. Great build
This is the first of your themed builds that I'm familiar with the source material.
Absolutely incredible job using so many household items to make such a good looking tripod.
You manage to outdo yourself every time.
Thats so amazing.... I don't know what to say.....
Enjoyed the upload found it very interesting. Thanks for sharing.
this is incredible. super inspiring.
Phenomenal. Elegant and yet something else. I took notes on how you installed floors and will be adopting it. 'Trash Bashing' gotta love it.
Thank you!
Very inspirational work 👍👍👍
Fantastic build from "junk". Great eye for details!
Awesome build.
Every once in a while i stumble across a video that completely blows my mind - and this is one of them. Especially the Background Music was so well chosen, it really lifted the experience of watching this build up by a lot. Thank you so much for sharing, this is a piece of art. Both the Diorama as well as the Video! Great Job! ❤
Wow, thank you! This was both a fun project and video to create. I appreciate the kind words!
Amazing result, well done!
Wow this is great. The house, the robot, and the video itself. Dragged me in. Was on another Planet for almost 12 minutes.
Thank you my friend!
Awesome! This video is a masterpiece. The music and radio extracts fit perfectly with the diorama.
Thank you! This is probably one of my favorite videos, and build projects.
Amazing build as usual. The small details is just another level. Good work!
Lovely work.
Many thanks!
that’s an amazing design for a tripod well done.
Awesome work
Thank you! Cheers!
What an incredible video, kit bashing and timely delivery. You always nail it!
Thank you my friend!
Seriously love this. Your attention to detail from junk is amazing. I love the war of the wars tripod.
This is unbelievable, an absolute joy to watch. Thank you
This was one of my favorite projects and one of my favorite videos to make. Thanks for the kind words!
This deserves so much attention, incredibly well done!
Thanks!
The music and the radio play makes a great atmosphere! And the tripod scratchbuild is very impressive!
This video was easily the most fun to produce - a good story goes a long way! Thanks for watching.
That was me captivated for 12 mins. Your skills are brilliant as is your video editing. 👍👍
That is really high praise - thank you every much!
Unreal build, really enjoyed that man. Great job. 😎👍
Thanks Andy, I'm glad you enjoyed it. I credit you with showing me how household junk can be transformed into robot monsters.
You've got some serious talent there my friend, nice work!
Thank you very much!
Wow! Incredible work 👍 Knarb sent me this way and you didn't disappoint! I hope I can up my video game like you have here.
Thanks for the kind words! I need to thank Knarb for referring so many people to my channel. As for the video - it is challenging and I'm enjoying it as part of the hobby. Thanks again!
Your truly talented love the detail with common products makes it more unique
Thank you very much!
Freaking Awesome War Machine! Very very cool! One of my favorite novels and always love to see well designed Tripods! Beautiful work! Thanks for making my night! Did you just create a reason for the state of of your city?
Mindblowing... that scratchbuilt tripod and the amazing paint job... I’ll also remember that building to inspire my own for upcoming boardgame monsterpocalypse
Superb!
Thank you! Cheers!
Both the build and delivery were top notch. I'm a fan of this!
This was a fun project - I never get tired of that old radio broadcast. Thanks!
absolutely brilliant work!
Love this! Great job!

Thanks John!
Amazing build, and great use of the radio broadcast
Glad you enjoyed it! The considering the original broadcast was from 1938, it's a pretty incredible piece of audio.
Thats a killer project!
Thanks! It was a lot of fun doing something different.
Very well done you are so creative.
This one was lots of fun!
Excellent build. I love the way that you do your buildings and rubble. Also, the Martian is great! Nice work!
Merci! I appreciate kind words.
I followed the same build path you made but rather than making the tripod a statue I made it a pose able figure with the legs being wire inserted into rubber tubing, the same with the tentacles but without the rubber, just melted into shape and painted so they retain their posability, I also made miniature people for it to pick up
ahhhhhhhhhhhh
So much to like in how you built the.. er … Martian. Particularly impressed with the pivot points. And then also the pavement and again with the painting - which I’m learning is really hard. You are an all rounder pretty much
Awesome build! I'm very surprised this doesn't have more likes. You have uber trash bash modeling skills! :) If you are planning to do another, it would be cool to do a scene were the tripods are walking over the mountains and through the river destroying the ferry in it's path.
Beautiful. Imagine 10s of thousands of radio show listeners thinking the invasion was real.
Apparently the police attempted to enter the boradcast studio mid-show to stop the broadcast.
I've done the same, but I scratchbuilt the tripod based on the original 1898 illustrations (which looks like a dome on latticed legs).
Superb as ever, but one quick possible improvement... give your weeds on this build a red hue to match the War of the Worlds fiction. It'd be subtle, but those who get it, get it.
You're absolutely right. I struggled with tiny bits of glue gun string and thinly tease bits of Brillo pad to try to come up with the veiny gross weeds made with people pulp... It was beyond my abilities...
This is wonderful! War of the worlds is my all time favourite movie and you have given me great inspiration to try and make this xx tfs
Based on how you built this diorama i presume it takes place a year or two after the attack as in the novel it only lasted two weeks
Wanted to know what is your base made of and the green sheet you put on top, thanks
In this example the base is half inch extruded polystyrene foam, with a layer of black foam core, and the final layer is cheap foam sheets that I get from the dollar store - sometimes they come pre-cut in cute little shapes and other times you can just buy them in sheet form.
Amazing work! Is that a special tool you're using to add glue at 05:45? Or is it just a brand of glue that has a bottle like that?
It's a disposable silicone 'nozzle' that attaches to a 60m bottle of superglue. Thanks!
"Fukt" is Norwegian for "moisture" ;)
This is a VERY happy accident. ;)
This is fantastic ,1- I love sci fi grew up watching the movies .2 , really enjoy your miniature work and like doing the same , keep up the great work, you have a talent for scratch building and you did one of my favorite movies ,
tripod
What are the lateral pieces in 1:13 (to be a hinge for the legs)? thanks!
Those are craft store beads!
@@NScaleDystopia thanks! I hadn’t recognized them...
