I had a very similar Hitachi 9 inch AC/DC set I received as a birthday present in 1977. It had an instant-on circuitry where you would rotate the volume knob clockwise to turn it to a "standby" mode and then pull it outward to turn it on. The knobs were identical to this set, but mine was more stylish. The cabinet was all red plastic with a retracting chrome carrying handle. I think its still at my parents' house, but I don't know if it works anymore. My brother pushed it off a table onto the floor and broke the case. It had a nice picture. I used it for years until it got dumped on the floor.

I found that the best way to really hurt media conglomerates or professional ball-chasing societies is to simply refuse to acknowledge that they even exist. I have better things to do with my time and money.

There's footage on UA-cam of LA and the homeless encampment sweeps before the super bowl. I believe parts of the stadium lot were absolutely littered with trash and piles of dumped crap. They cleaned it all up to make it look "proper" for the dumb game, and kicked out all the homeless people from the routes into the stadium.

I am seeing 72XX and 73XX date codes on those caps 1972 and 1973. I don't hate a 10uf with 20 ohms ESR, unless it is in a switch mode modern power supply it will pass audio and video just fine. Look at the input impedance of most of those stages, they are coupled with sometimes a 10K resistor or even more. Beautifully designed TV with a very good CRT. Must have very low hours.

Yeah same here. I couldn’t care less about the stupor bowl. What’s funny is how emotionally invested the viewers become in something that’s so utterly meaningless. A bunch of men running around fighting for possession of an air filled bladder. If you’re outside in your yard when “the game” is on you can hear piercing war cries and the sounds of people beating their chests like primates when “their team” scores a point.
It’s as though it’s some sort of personal victory for them,as though something was achieved.
Shango’s explanation of major league sports accurately sums up the whole scene.

Not many street people in N.H. They cant make the winter. They find a few stiffs every
year. They are called "Bumcicles". Usually its from the wine case fire going out.
    Remember Ottawa !!

I find it interesting that they have an octal tube socket in this set. They must have had a surplus in old tube equipment. It actually has a pretty decent picture, and good colors. I'm guessing there aren't a ton of hours on this tube. A recap would definitely clean it up a bit. I have an old solid state guitar amplifier from a similar era that has old Rubycon caps. I'm guessing they are all bad. I just replaced the main filter cap and that significantly cut down on the 60 cycle hum. It has several tiny 16v 0.47uf electrolytic caps that I can hopefully replace with tantalums. The board actually looks similar to a transistor radio.

Where are you getting the broadcast analog signals from? We don't have them out here on the east coast. 🤔

I read that the Super Bowl commercials are $7 million for 30 seconds, that's just insane. One the other hand, it seems the most popular SB commercial is the new Chevy Silverado (Sopranos) commercial. It already has 11 millions views on UA-cam (and climbing)... "The First-Ever All-Electric Chevy Silverado - New Generation (The Sopranos) | Chevrolet"

Can you please explain why visible retrace lines are so far apart from each other?
Shouldn't they be after each horizontal line?
    Thank you.

Visible retrace lines are _vertical_ retrace lines. The beam is traveling upwards at ~10x the speed and in the opposite direction.

Yep, can feel for you, opened the 920u, found a bunch of caps as well. Time to get a hard copy of the bible for this and put in an order to DigiKey and see if their German operation might stock the all the caps.
Where did you get your cap meter from?

Yeah you were supposed to scan that QR code in that commercial for some reason.
