    Had a 36, first year, when I was a kid, 1974 and parts were impossible then. Back then they said to use a Y block oil pump and add crankcase ventilation as improvements. Back then it cost $2400 to rebuild the V12.

      Yup, the only crankcase ventilation was through the breather cap, and the oil pump was too small. They gave you good advice.

    I really enjoyed the rebuilding and restoring of this valuable and rare engine. What a great job with clear instructive narration all the way through. Lots of good tips and tricks to use on any engine rebuild. Thanks.

    As I look at the fragile construction of the con rods ,I am amazed that the engine holds together…!!!

      We today would call it a low performance engine. It was designed for about 74 octane gas and smooth running not drag racing.

    Wanted to buy a straight body 39 lincoln zepher that needed engine work when I was in high school. Guy wanted 50 bucks. No way I could come up with that much money. 85 year oldtimer.

    Good work. Besides, it is wise to measure all pistons because some may be a few ten thousands different. Note each one and hone accordingly to get the most out of the rebuild.

    If you install 350 chevy valve seals it won't smoke so bad.

    What's it run a customer to have that v12 redone?

    Hi, I have a 1941 V-12 with excessive blow by smoke coming from the oil fill breather. I am running an electric fuel pump so the rod for the fuel pump is gone. Any issues with the rod missing? Maybe that is the source of blow by smoke? Thank You ! Doug

    is that the cylinder with piston slap?

  • @PaulHigginbothamSr

    Wow put 2 sniper fuel injections on the engine and power would double with better fuel consumption. Keep each bank totally separate like two engines.

    Why do you like to go overbore of .001 from the recommendation? That they say could be .001 under .0025, dont overbore. Maybe you have just taken away some life from the engine rebuild.

    • @LakelandAutoMarine
      @LakelandAutoMarine  2 роки тому +1

      The recommended clearance is a “minimum.” On engine break in such as air pockets in the coloring system of overheating you could scuff a piston if the clearance is too tight. Clearance is your friend. Common sense would tell you that the tighter the clearance the longer it will last. That’s not the case 85% of the time. Give it some room and everything will be happy. We always go .001 over the minimum as it’s just that - a minimum.

      @@LakelandAutoMarine Your setting up these bores too loose, I expect piston slap eventually as their is no wear cushion and no one like to hear that. My old manual for 50's to 60's Buicks lists .0011 to .0026 for all their engines. Looking up Ford it says .0017 to .0026. Anything over that for a new engine is rejected. And those engines were powerful and did not scuff their bores from the factory as new engines. I got this right from the engine repair manual. In the video, you said .0015 was acceptable per the piston maker and that agrees with everything I have read.

      I just looked at Dodge 318, 361, 383 v-8 engines, skirt clearance is .0005 to .0018. So all the old manufacturers ran tight clearances with new engines, even back in the 50's.
