Maybe he was friends with Marlo, and/or Danny Thomas, and did that racetrack announcer part as a favour. He was already famous at that time, even before his big role as the father, Tom Bradford, in 'Eight is Enough'.
Here's some ramblings regarding this episode: 1) the guy placing the bet in front of Ann is Sam Denoff. He's a regular writer in the show and appears in a handful of episodes always in an insignificant part. 2) The guy working the window that pays out after the race is the younger brother of Don Adams (Get Smart). He's been in a couple of episodes. 3) Don's friend John was in the previous episode as his friend Herbie. Since he plays Don's friend in both shows you wonder why they didn't just use the same name?
My dad was the associate producer on the 4th and 5th season, he also did bit acting on various episodes, (he plays one of the cops who catch mr. Marie breaking into annes apartment) and voice Parts like the airport announcer, etcetera.. Sam Denoff was a wild and funny man. Our families were close for years. I still have a THAT GIRL crew hat that was my dad's from the set
Recognized the face, couldn’t get the name till credits, Hal Williams, John, one of the friends of Don. Been in a ton of stuff, good actor. Still with us.
The bettor in line behind Ann is Sam Denoff, one of the show’s creators. The guy behind the counter when she goes to cash her winnings is the brother of Don Adams.
I really did love the 1970's fashions, but most of hers were more avant guard than what I wore. But then she was 5'3" and I was 5'9 and 1/2 inches tall by 1972.
If you mean ‘midis’ I liked them but never wore them cuz they were usually worn with boots ,and boots are expensive. Now maxi, was full length but not practical for everyday wear.
It's upsetting that as Ann was both dumbed down & more pathetically emotional to the point of being annoying, that while great shows like Star Trek & Gilligan's Island, The Immortal, Barbary Coast, The Magician, Outlaws, & the Ghost & Mrs Muir were cancelled after short runs of 3 years & some Much less.
Be it not for the supporting cast, writers, and wardrobe, I wouldn't be able to tolerate this series; Ann Marie was beyond annoying and rather ridiculous.
I have to agree with you. It's not very sophisticated for this day & time. I watch it because Donald is so great. I've never been around a man who's that kind.
That's my favorite episode! Dick Van Patten was the horse racing announcer in this episode, but he didn't take credit.
I never noticed Dick wasn't credited!

The writers of these shows were great.
Agree. Bonus is they kept true to NY locations.
yeah, they we're i have a That Girl doll with Ann holding her flag
One of my favorite episodes mainly because of the Horse Race Track Aqueduct, reminds me of Caliente Race Track in Tijuana Mexico.

And also, the guy who opens the "Employees Only" door and greets Ann is Alex Rocco.
Love the Morticia Adams look. Alex Rocco X 2.
Her hair with bangs looked alot better than how it is in 5th season.
I agree with you, Marlo's bangs was her trademark, that's why I love the opening from the second thru the fourth season.
I agree.

Played a cop, Officer Smith "Smitty" on Sanford and Son the first four seasons.
The clothes were amazing...I would wear that black coat today.
Look how young Alex Rocco is here! Wow!
Yeah! That was before he voiced Roger Myers, Jr. in The Simpsons and Thorny from A Bug's Life!
I would have liked to see more of Ann being involved in her acting career in Season 5...it seemed to have fallen off the radar.

So, did the horse named Annie's Guy win that race, or what???
Good question.
No
Annie's Guy always wins!
3:47 Steve Buscemi?
Steve was 9 years old when this was filmed.
@MuzixMaker yeah, I was certain it wasn't him, but I did get that vibe.
@@johnny-becker Steve does look older than he is!
@@MuzixMaker Agree to that. So did Abe Vigoda from Barney Miller although different era
It couldn't be Steve Buscemi from Monsters, Inc. He was a kid back then.
How could Annie's Guy lose?
Maxi women clothes just didn't care for them
Had to be tall, 5’10+, and leggy to pull it off but it wasn’t my favorite either.
Ex- was a clothes horse fashionista.

They weren’t recipients of Danny Thomas influence, power.
Don was too intelligent to stay with her.
Actually found her relatable. A silly girl at times, definitely, yet she still manages to have a career and always a class act.
Ha😅ir was too dark thick and severe.makeup too dark
Argh, "Ann" is acting especially ditzy and annoying in this one, disappointed :(

Oh, hush… Marlo Thomas was amazing in this show and ahead of her time…
She could have sat on a ladder for a half hour….Id’a watched.
But, I did like the clothes etc.
