    I love history. I find many skills have not been passed down through out the ages ... These places help keep not just our heritage but some of the many skills we still need today. Many wood workers would not know what to do if the power were to shut off. Thank you for keeping these skills alive.

    There is something marvelously fun about planing with a wooden plane. It also looks and sounds beautiful. The smell is nicer than any pot-poury goo than I have experienced.

      You know, I used to make "potato chip" slices on my band saw of branches, like aspen, cherry etc where there is colour. I put them in bowls in my home. People liked them . Maybe there is something there? Who knows? Lol! Warm regards.

    Fantastic! That water-powered table saw is a wonderful piece of Shaker ingenuity. Excellent period woodworking benches. I'd love to tour an old shop like this.

    I love this. So interesting. I wish we had a shop like this in Florida lol. I have a project that needs the old ways for staining. Im dying to know the formula they use. Tea darkening, tobacco & ammonia, or vinegar & rusty iron.

      They (Amish) are still working like this today. I bought an Amish made king size bed just last year in PA for $3600.00 all out of oak & Cherry. It's truly an amazing way how they do it all by hand. My bad will last generations

    Gret video tour with a bunch of interesting trivia!
    Wondering if you got any better shots of those chairs facing out of the barn (?) in the final shot of the video? They look like a really nice alternative to the Adirondack chair (or Muskoka chair here in Canada)..? Might be a cool video for you to do, or at the very least I'd like to get a better look at them and figure out the pattern to make my own version that stands out in a sea of similar looking Adirondack chairs.

      MRrwmac Hock sells them. As do Lee Valley & various others. You could make your own too out of any steel. Look into work hardening/shaping/annealing/etc... not too hard to come up with a suitable home made blade for one of these.

    Who made the left hand workbench?

    • @jacksteffek871
      @jacksteffek871 5 років тому

      George Wickersham, in 1830. It was sold in the declining years and went to the Fruitland museum in Massachusetts. Hancock Shaker Village made a trade to get it back.
