No it's not possible to use Windows 7 now without any problems. Sure you can install it and it will work. The problem is that you won't find many software or web browsers that support Windows 7. As most software vendors dropped support for older versions of Windows. Google Chrome and Firefox only support Windows 10 now. Unless you install a very old version. Which is not advisable for browsing the Internet. When Microsoft stopped supporting Windows XP and Vista I clung to them for as long as I could. Then I found I could get any more updates or even update my web browsers so I had to give them up. The same thing happened with Windows 7 and 8. So I changed to Linux because otherwise I would have had to upgrade to windows 10 or 11. Which I didn't want to do.
'Unless you install a very old version.' - latest firefox for win 7 literally released in july 2023. You are clearly don't know what you are talking about. This 'unsafe' browsing on unsupported system usually comes from a mouth of dummy users, whos catching viruses even on the latest Windows versions. I won't buy a new hardware just for Microsoft to claim it 'unsupported', even tho it's working fine. It's not about safety, it's about selling you stuff you don't need.
It depends on use case, if you keep an unsupported OS offline for the purpose of running old software, you can make use of it without incident, just use a supported OS for your online computing and avoid having any personal info on the unsupported OS, in case you should unintentionally connect to a network at some point. (Using a wifi dongle for the initial installation/update and then removing it instead of having any internal wifi hardware would be one approach to avoiding accidental connection.) I do agree that the way he is using it here will probably end up being more trouble than it is worth in the long run, attempting to use it for OBS and Spotify. A current Linux distro is going to be a much better daily driver.
@s1_auds Yeah that's one option. I remember when I was on Windows XP after end of support. When I downloaded Firefox I got the ESR version. I don't know if it still supports Windows 7 because support for 7 ended so long ago. There is a browser call Mypal which supports XP and will probably support Windows 7. I don't know how safe it is to use though.
For people that really want to avoid Win 10/11 take a look at Linux Mint, atm #1 of the Linux Distros for a reason. The look and feel is very similar to win7. I finally might make it my main system in 2025 after talking about moving to Linux for years. ;)
I’ve been using Mint as my only OS on an upgraded 2012 Mac Mini for just over a year now, and I love it. Unless you have to sync an iDevice or something, it’s definitely the way to go.
I am sure the win 11 LTSC runs very well in that equipment too and you will have more bluetooth connectivity.... but anyway win 7 is an awesome OS too much faster !!!
As long as you practice standard internet safety practices such as not clicking on strange links, going to questionable sites, or keeping any passwords with something like the Google Password manager, you're fine using Win 7. The main thing you have to worry about, again if you're practicing standard safety practices, are actual bad actors with phishing emails and external hacking attempts on your network. A good, modern firewall will protect your machine. So long as your firewall is up to the task, bad actors shouldn't be able to get to your Win 7 machine. Sadly most people don't and thus why it's never recommended for the common, average user who doesn't have the knowledge to avoid those pitfalls.
I feel you. I've moved to Windows 11 for security reasons, But I still use Windows 7 because I've used it since I was in school, especially I play older games that are compatible with Windows 7, just only it has more compatibility with older OS's.
For games, I slightly prefer 8.1 with Open-Shell installed, because 8.1 patches some bugs in 7 that impact some games, without introducing the changes that caused compatibility issues in 10 with some software from previous eras. You don't get quite as nice an aesthetic as in 7, in my opinion, but its functionally a bit better once you eliminate the unwanted changes to the interface.
Unless you have a specific device or program that needs windows, I’d put Linux Mint Cinnamon on this laptop. Mint is the easiest most trouble-free Linux distro out there, runs very similar to W7, and runs more efficiently than w7. You can then run Virtualbox on there for any Windows specific thing.
Virtualbox with 3 gigs of ram won't run very well. What you'd want to do with that laptop is see if it can be upgraded to 6 or 8 gigs of ram. If you check old discussion boards, you may find out that people have added more ram than is suggested (I found that out about mine). Also, I'd take off the back and dust the thing out, and possibly add thermal paste to the processor, as it's likely dried out. There should be plenty of videos on UA-cam for that. Also, when you take out the screws, just place them on a piece of paper in the order you took them out...makes it easier to figure out which ones go where! I'm typing this on a 2008 X200 Thinkpad with MX Linux, 8 gigs of ram, SSD...and it runs great for browsing, word processing and old dos games (using Dosbox). I get to run the latest version of Chrome, OBS, etc, and it's much more secure (you can use free Clam for antivirus). For a new user, you can't beat Mint, though I might want to use XFCE on an under powered laptop, as it takes less resources than Cinnamon. You get less eye candy, but much better performance.
The more that has been added to Windows features the more problems I have had and more I hated it, especially OneDrive, I absolutely hate it and stopped using it. (My oldest cat was Tabitha who lived 20 years, a feral rescue who pretty much remained feral even at home but she did pick a couple "safe zones" where she wanted to be petted.)
8.1 is the unsupported version I use most, even though I prefer the look of 7/Vista. In terms of compatibility it is like a more patched version of 7. Metro and the start screen designed around touchscreens make it unpleasant to use with mouse and keyboard if you don't install Open-Shell, but once you do it's a non-issue. I also dislike the wallpapers in 8.1, but I just drop in the ones from other releases or any other source.
Windows 7 is cool, I also really like XP, personally I use Windows 10 and will even past the EOL, won't ever upgrade to Windows 11 unless sometime in the future you have to or steam won't launch anymore. Really sucks that steam doesn't run on anything below 10, but thank God for GOG and piracy!!!!
Unfortunately, I have no idea why it was so difficult to do it normally it’s easy for me to install Windows 7 but it was just a pain on this laptop. It just did not want to read anything.
Especially modern laptops have hardware which were never updated on the standard non updated iso Microsoft provides. This makes it harder to install windows. Most common problem is the uns 3 Driver that the installer is missing or some SATA/name drivers that windows 7 simply not know

@TechSimplified910 Here's some info that has nothing to do with this video but I feel I need to share it because it's barely talked about. This is all about storage swapping and read and write. You already got a SSD but you probably would still wanna try this. The topic I'm talking about is Mklinks. Mklinks are better then normal windows shortcuts. Mklinks don't use storage space. They make a path to specific locations you pick. So for example, if you had an external hard and mklined a specific program. Your PC will think that separate hard drive is your main hard drive. Your PC will think it's one hard drive instead of 2 for that specific program you picked. What I'm doing since ram disk is 1 second faster than SSD. I'm making mklinks to ram disk. Example, you can't put a 100GB on a 2GB ram disk. It's just not possible. But since the rules go like this. (Mklinks don't consume storage space)(They make a path). This method is also good for video rendering. The program you need to do it very simple without writing scripts to do is called (Symlink Generator). You would make the ram disk first. Usually by default the ram disk drive would be Z and a folder in it called Temp. So if wanted to play a 100GB on a 2GB ram disk. You would manually open up that game folder, highlight the complete files, and drag the complete files inside Symlink Generator, the you tell the program you want all those files located on temp file in z drive. Your computer will think the whole 100GB game is on the 2GB ram disk and you will gain the speed from the ram disk instead of the normal SSD. This mklink thing is a gem nobody talks about. There's also a program in steam called Dimmdrive which basically works the same way. I bought that first because I had no clue about mklinks. Basically I got scammed because of the lack of knowledge. Symlink Generator and a ram disk is all you need to accomplish the same thing as Dimmdrive program. Mklinks are awesome, this is the best way to use a ram disk.

And it runs smoothly If you have an old desktop computer like mine, try these upgrades. They should cost almost nothing.$$

i still use windows 7 on my laptop in 2024, only downfall is that my battery doesn't hold charge lol 😂 it's mad how we're coming up to the 20th anniversary.. 2009 - 2029 The reason as to why before I get replies telling me I shouldn't; I have programs such as vehicle software for example which needs the older version of windows and I have all my documents etc which I do refer to, in one place on windows 7. I don't want to go through the hassle of uploading everything to the cloud to redownload it all locally or putting it on USBs, when something works, I'll use it until it doesn't.
@TechSimplified910 yeah exactly and for example programs like office 2016, works a charm I don't need the new office 2021 that literally only has new a UI appearance 😂 cheers for the reply
solution to battery not holding charge is to replace it... I've changed quite a number of w$7 laptops with battery problems... all batteries sourced from amazon... I've even installed linux mint 21.3 on one laptop...and modded it to have a sort of look and feel of w$7

Symlink Generator and a ram disk is all you need to accomplish the same thing as Dimmdrive program. Mklinks are awesome, this is the best way to use a ram disk.
I’m on windows 11 for the sake of my laptop’s safety if there isn’t a thing called end of support I would probably be on windows 7
I used to have the Dell M5030 back in the day except it didn’t have the ugly textured design all over it
yea I wish i had the standard black instead of the texture or both
I love windows 7, winders 8,10,11? DISGUSTING, especially 11, HATE HATE HATE HATE , if I bought a laptop, I buying an MacBook
Windows 7 is my family pc and have used it for like forever. I wish roblox and Minecraft still worked on it , Minecraft will be killing support come march
I installed Windows 10 Enterprise 2016 LTSB on a 2007/2008 desktop and it runs as fast as a modern computer. But I made some upgrades, like an Intel Core2Quad Q9550 processor, 4GB of DDR2 ram and an SSD. And without any video card, just the onboard video. And it runs smoothly
If you have an old desktop computer like mine, try these upgrades. They should cost almost nothing.$$
Roblox still supports windows 7 but they will be dropping support in January. Minecraft also is not killing support in March lol.
yea, windows 7 will always be in our hearts for ever
I like to windows 7
This is also out of pocket, but you're cute HAHAHA!!
ha ha thanks
Very cute 😮😮😮❤❤❤❤❤
I threw away all my bought games from then and before . I could have played a non pirated version of ..... The Movies. 🤔dammned 🤦♂️ 🥰🥰Love & Light
I wanna use w7 for a week or so just 4 fun
Win 7 nothing wrong, Win 8.q Ok, Win 10/11 constant troubles every update ! At least Norton and Firefox thunderbird work OK! Future bleak, even XP youtubr still works without login but MS latest bad features make a partly transit to linux attractive !
I completely understand and completely agree as well
Why does microsoft ruin everything windows 7 and xp were sooo good they might as well be the best os
Also not married ;)
i still use windows 7 on my laptop in 2024, only downfall is that my battery doesn't hold charge lol 😂
it's mad how we're coming up to the 20th anniversary.. 2009 - 2029
The reason as to why before I get replies telling me I shouldn't; I have programs such as vehicle software for example which needs the older version of windows and I have all my documents etc which I do refer to, in one place on windows 7. I don't want to go through the hassle of uploading everything to the cloud to redownload it all locally or putting it on USBs, when something works, I'll use it until it doesn't.
I completely agree with the old vehicle software. I’m the same exact way yeah it’s a mess to have to upload to the cloud.
@TechSimplified910 yeah exactly and for example programs like office 2016, works a charm I don't need the new office 2021 that literally only has new a UI appearance 😂
cheers for the reply
solution to battery not holding charge is to replace it...
I've changed quite a number of w$7 laptops with battery problems... all batteries sourced from amazon...
I've even installed linux mint 21.3 on one laptop...and modded it to have a sort of look and feel of w$7
Avoid mcafee it's a resource hog
If you're really concerned about privacy you shouldn't be using Chrome
Windows 7 + Chrome is like begging to get hacked by some North korean agent, atleast use a VPN and firefox
I am unable to play my games on Windows 7!!!!!
Half a video to install Windows 7? The noobness in you is strong, young Padawan.
Drop Google Chrome and use Supermium, it's a fork of Chrome with Windows XP, Vista, 7 and 8.x support. By the way, using an unsupported OS these days is not a big deal, specially because current routers basically block all ports anyway. As long as you use an updated browser and only visit trusted sites, you should be okay.
if you install windows 7 you can get the updates working up till they stoped you download a file and boom working off the top of head i carnt rember what it is called somthing 6.1 google win7 update the file is by microsoft, i use win7 to do xbox hardrives ,moved to linux a long time ago ,yeah win 8,10,11 suck stuffed with crap you dont want like y do we need ai in a os stupid
My Classic THERMALTAKE DH-102 Socket 775 Desktop Is Still Running Windows 7 Ultimate 64Bit, With 16 GB Ram In It, Wherein I Watch My DVD's, From My Sony VAIO DVD Players, Through The Windows Media Center App, Which Windows Abruptly Stopped Including In Their OS's After Windows 8, Which I Have Never Seen, Or Used, And My Secondary Acer Computer Is Running Windows 11 64 Bit, Which I Really Don't Like, But It's For Watching Videos Online, Like This Video . . .
Why not run windows 10 on the secondary? Everytime I buy a pc, if it comes with 11, the very first thing I do is plug in a flash drive and upgrade it to 10 lol
@@Dictatortot-n3d I Will Think About Trying That, But For Now, This Seems To Work Here . . . Thanks For The Info . . .
@@Dictatortot-n3d Since I Am Not A Gamer, My Win 7 Classic Computer Is Just For Watching My 600 + Movies, Shows, And TV-Cable Series DVD's Here, And My 2 + Year Old Acer Computer, Is For Going Online, And Watching Videos, Like This Video, And Checking My E-Mail . . .
@@jamesevans3492 Nah man you do you, 7 is really awesome, its just nowadays a lotta programs stopped supporting it, but if it works it works!!!
