lol! That explains it. I as started watching this and had to stop. When I came back, it had disappeared. I was about to lodge a bug report with UA-cam because this was the third time today a video suddenly disappeared. Glad I saw that you reuploaded so I don’t have to bother. Love these videos Phi 🙏
Its also important to note why Chanel was jabbing the ff2 sen stance in the first place: The jab is a powerful option select for the ff2 sen casino which forces the Reina to either use the homing high or the homing low which subsequently can be option selected by ducking into full launch. The jab recovery also makes sure that the power crush can be blocked, every other mid gets interrupted and the airborne mid gets floated into combo. This essentially neuters the ff2 sen casino and significantly swings it in the defenders favor because all they have to choose is whether to jab or to duck while the attacker is risking their life with each option they pick or at the very least getting jab interrupted. Yagami's outplay of not going into sen after ff2 but rather hard reading jabs to instantly do the full crouch launcher without confirming whether the jab was coming out or not was super fun to watch. Especially because he had been doing the ff2 duck and punish even in the group stages and the first few games of this set but instead of hard reading the jab he was trying to see the jab whiff and punishing with the jewel snatcher. It was so satisfying to see the ft5 develop in a way where Yagami was trying to maximize his reward for each won interaction by believing in his reads harder and harder towards the end because of the data he had collected earlier in the long set. FT5's are cool
Same! I strive to be as good as yagami, since I live in New Zealand all I need to do is hit tekken god, to vs yagami. Raijin rank atm, hopefully by the end of the year I’ll hit tekken god.
I usually don't travel for Tekken tournaments, EWC was my first tournament as a spectator. I am the biggest Reina Simp and I got to witness this Live :'( This was the the highlight of my visit to Riyadh. I still can't believe Yagami did what he did there. He literally made my day and I got to hug him and take picture with him later. I always have a huge respect for character loyalists and I said it on stream he is going to be the DARK HORSE in TWT Finals this weekend. Thanks for covering these matches Phi! love your content, you're doing a great favor to the Global Tekken nation. Much love!
I love this character. Not only is she an “easy to use, difficult to master” which is amazing for new and longtime players but Reina is also a character who just looks amazing to spectate. I tried picking up other characters and learning them for a time but I just always go back to Reina. Something about playing her is very flowy.
To me, she’s very flexible gameplay wise. Great movement, quick buttons and when they hit, it sounds good. What attracts me to her is that there are certain moments when I enter a “flow state.” It’s a boxing term, but basically it means everything becomes instinct, all my execution becomes crisps, I can read my opponent perfectly and all my buttons hit. It’s awesome when it happens.
@thorcolossus Flow state isnt necessarily a boxing term. It's more of a generalized term that means what you described, but is applicable in nearly every sort of task at hand
Up until recently I thought she has like 200 moves when it's only 120-ish, which I guess is because she has so much player expression and complexity. Nothing more satisfying than finding situations like being able to use her u1+2 stance to cartwheel over Yoshi's sword sweep and instant electric launch, doing a unique wavu with wind god step and Sentai or parrying normally safe or unparryable moves like Yoshi's 1,1 or Fengs db2,2,2 lol (have to use the Fusatsujin parry for the last one) It never ends with her
@@danielhenrique8615 Honestly a reasonable statement. Some characters feel mass produced while Reina is a cookie from grandma Lmao yeah I usually don’t taunt myself but like to know my options and her taunt, teabag and ki charge are all mid tier, so parry and stomp it is imo Noice, I nearly found myself at the pearly gates once after laughing too hard while trolling with Jins omen online (the one without heat) and have him look like a Genie and Harry Potter lol
The last round is straight out of an anime. I remember my entire body going numb due to how stressful it was watching Yagami being so close to losing it all after such an amazing comeback.
i appreciate the vids!! they help me learn and see so much more from the matches from when I watched them by myself. Thank you! your hard work is very much appreciated!!
I watched this live with a friend, we were both just hyped and could barely breath from start to finish, everything was just amazing, that was Reina in her purest form, with Yagami being a real master here! I was wondering when you'd go through this match (after I had already watched it so many times as a Reina player), it was absolutely worth the wait! Your hype and reactions at that last match was basically like me and my friend just flipping out when we watched it live! Thank you PhiDX!
I’ve been struggling to find a main since Tekken came out I’ve tried Hwo, Eddy, and Reina. I think this video just made it clear which one I’m going with. I must learn this man’s ways lol
Yagami is such an inspiration to watch. His performance in this tournament and especially this set made me double down on co-maining Reina. I was of the mindset that playing both her and Bryan would be too hefty of a task since I would be learning both of them from scratch. I'm also suffering from a character crisis due to Noctis and Kuni both being gone (still hoping Kuni comes back though). Not to mention that Bryan and Reina are both pretty difficult characters. But seeing what Yagami is able to do with her is just as inspiring to me as watching Knee or Jimmy playing Bryan, if not more, honestly. I stopped caring about how hard it would be to learn both of them in parallel, even if it would definitely stunt my growth in the short term. It turned out to be a really good decision for me. Reina being a hyper aggressive rushdown character and Bryan being as defensive as he is actually helped me play each of them a little more well-rounded. And if it wasn't for Yagami and this set, that might not have happened.
Been waiting for you to cover this one! This match really is a strong statement against mid-set coaching. The mindgames at play where you can see Chanel started to unravel and kept falling for Yagami's setups as he kept winning and winning is legit top tier. Wouldn't have gotten one of the best T8 sets ever if EWC allowed coaching. Hopefully the TWT organizers noticed how hype this match was and ban coaching for next season.
I watch yagami a lot to try and pick up on things he does to add to my own gameplay but as someone whos not as experienced as Phi its nice to have him breakdown some of the things he does.
My favourite set in T8. The first to 5 format led to this insane adjustment and momentum swing. Even having seen it before - I still get excited watching that final match.
THIS IS THE SET I WAS WAITING FOR!!! Everything about this set was exciting, Yagami's Reina is on another level. At around this time no one but Yagami was playing Reina this way at this level, it really opens your eyes as to what she can do. Knee at TGU and Yagami at EWC were the most hype sets of the year for me. Some good ass Tekken
Bruh been watching soo many tekken UA-camrs but bruh phidx You are sooooo genuine and soooo passionate bout all your contents!! We have been learing to play properly because of you and enjoy all your contents
I've watched this Tournament Live and it was really intense, it was really frustrating seeing Yagami losing those 4 sets straight but he pulled it off like an anime comeback. I'm rooting for Yagami because I'm also a Reina Player. This set is really a treat to watch! Kudos also to Chanel showing sportmanship and gracefulness in defeat.
For those wondering, that the Wra 1 CH guarantees the Sen 1+2 into Wra 2 for a FULL HEAT DASH COMBO. If Chanel had more health he was definitely losing 80%
Match that inspired me to learn the game with Reina and stop trying other chars until I feel that I'm solid enpugh. What actually makes him different from the rest of us in Reina gang (aside from obvious pro-level of execution, decision-making etc.) is the way how he understands the game through the character. Tiny things like mixing her movement and stance cancels are making him the best Reina player. Also Chanel lifting him while hugging was just great. Best set in Tekken 8 so far and I'm looking to see the other crazy stuff that Yagami will show to us. Honestly would love to see him and Joka clashing in finals and giving us tight Reina vs Heihachi Grand Final.
Watched this set live, as a reina main I was cheering on yagami through the whole tournament, by the end of game 4 I felt like it was the end and then somehow he just kept winning match after match, when he got that final counterhit to win the game I jumped out of my chair and almost broke my headset at 4am truly one of my favorite esports moments
I have avoided spoilers or watching anything since your original EWC posts. And Yagami became one of my favorites to watch the moment I saw him play. There is something unique about it.
Couldn't stand up after I watched this. This set gave me full jelly legs. I haven't played Tekken since 3, but I've picked it up again and I've been learning Reina and this just further makes me want to master "The Queen/Lil Raijin" herself even more. Also, FRAME TRAPS BITCHES!!!!!
I was so fed up with not being able to rank up but finally broke through to Tekken King with Mishimas. The problem was impatience and too slowly identifying bad habits, similar to the suggestions in many of your coaching sessions.
This is why you and TMM are the only 2 people I'm subbed to on YT for T8. You guys have a clear love for the series and your emotions are infectious. Amazing content.

Yagami showing why hes the only reina player in competitive. No one uses her tools as effective as him
Shoutouts Feng Wei. His role was short in this, but the impact couldnt have been bigger to shift Yagami's mind set. Possibly the best set of the year.

Just found out yagami's leverless has an extra LDR for the right hand. Does that help him achieve these executions?
Holy 💩 this was insane 😊
this is one of the sickest matches i have ever seen live this match made yagami and reina one

Reina CAN be very easy. Optimizing her large moveset is the hard part that most players ignore
Most reina players learn to spam 11 and ff+2 flowcharts.
