Same here! My grandmother had one of them fancy electric ones, I was terrified of losing my fingers (or being sucked through and coming out as a pancake) as a kid
I grew up using a wringer washer and drying clothes on a line either in the basement during foul weather or on a line outside during dry weather. Found out that during winter that you could hang wet clothes on the line till they froze hard, then beat the ice out of them and they would be dried faster after bringing them inside. Could have used one like he has in the bush when I lived there without power instead of the creek and rocks. He's a lucky man to have a woman who would live that lifestyle in today's tech society.
@@donnacole4227 That's what we call them too in Western Canada, wringers. They wring out your wet clothes. You can start one item and add another to the tail-end of the first and just keep adding on from the wash tub till it is empty. They all go through the wringer and into the wash tub of cold rinse water behind. Then you swish them around in the rinse water, swing the wringer around to the side and put them all through the wringer again into the clothes basket to carry them out to the clothes line. Those wringers can jam up and tear your clothes pretty bad so you have to watch closely and catch that as quick as you can so you can unlatch the latch on the end that clamps the wringers together, to save your clothes. Doing laundry by hand or this way once a week soon reduces the number of clothes and linens you are willing to get dirty in 7 days. Another reason you wil reduce the number is because of the time it takes. I will take all day to haul & warm the water, wash & rinse a few tub-fulls of clothes (in the same water), hang the clothes on the line then wait for them to dry and the rest is pretty much the same except you can expect more wrinkles which you can iron out if you feel the need to look friendly to the neighbors or to look acceptable on camera. Where in the world did you find that washing machine? I’m 91 years old and I remember my mother having a washing machine with a handle that you had to pump back and forth when I was about six years old. My dad died when I was two (in fact, the day before my second birthday) and there were five children. She did laundry for other people to feed her family.

That's funny because I'm also 58, and I haven't seen one of those since I was a child as well (my grandma had one). It's going to be a lot of work! :-)
I'm 58 as well.....I remember when my Grandma made boiled dinner on washdays, 'cuz it took the same amount of time to make boiled dinner as it took to do the wash. :)
I used to help my grandmother with laundry in the 1950/60s with the same washer. Then once that was complete we would hang the clothes outside. Check my grandparents huge garden, they had a year round garden. Around the corner down the street was a mom and pop grocery store-- the charger grocery store was a few miles away. If we went to my uncle's house we would pick a chicken or 2 out and watched its butchering and defeathering. Had chicken dinner, veggies from the garden And of course had to take the laundry in. Does e1 remember how fresh the clothes smelled?

Well, here's an idea to keep your bedroom a bit cooler: hang up a thick curtain all across your bedroom at the top of the stairs. That will keep a lot of the heat outside your bedroom! The thicker the fabric the better it will be. You could even use blankets. Lots of love from the Netherlands.

Hello Shawn
I'm Vietnamese, I love watching your videos.
The graphics of the video are very beautiful, the scenery is very attractive and peaceful.
Your UA-cam is one of my favorite channels.
Thank you for creating great videos.
I loved this video and am so glad you two are together. Love that washing machine, wow. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your adventure. God's continued blessings on you both.
The shot of the cabin at night with the lights on just looks like a Christmas card love it
Well, here's an idea to keep your bedroom a bit cooler: hang up a thick curtain all across your bedroom at the top of the stairs. That will keep a lot of the heat outside your bedroom! The thicker the fabric the better it will be. You could even use blankets. Lots of love from the Netherlands.
So nice to find a partner in life to live this way with!
Welcome Mrs James so beautiful to see and feel you along side of Shaun, Im so happy and delighted for you both going forward...a wonderful way to reconnect in the love that brought you together in the beginning...Happy Trails...

@@aliaosman655 Being with humans is pretty natural for dogs. Been like this for ages. Dogs are not the animals they where a thousands years ago...
And the dog is happy and well.
She’d definitely lovin her doggie life ❤️

I learn lots on you tube,
I am Brazilian, I don't understand anything you say, I can only say that I love your videos.
You are not the only Bernadette, I also do not understand anything of what he speaks, but, the image, the history, the place, easily overcomes the language barrier. I watch all the videos, I like it a lot.
Is it because I live in the city of Vitoria in the state of Espirito/santo that it is very hot?
Como eu leio muito bem o inglês eu coloco legendas, dá pra safar, mas isso não importa muito, os vídeos sao espetaculares. Fiquei viciada nesse canal. Maravilhoso!
@@MarcosGleideCardoso é lindo demais né??
Estamos aqui 🇧🇷

Daniel Prinsloo , I love that quote. So glad I came across your comment/reply.
Thank you , that's a lovely saying .
You are a very talented builder..a beautiful homestead. Thanks for the videos.
My granny had one of those hand washer wringers in England.
My mother had one in Scotland.
I can imagine the wet days of rain, hunting and fishing, but especially the forest .. I am from Argentina and I would love to enjoy all that at some point . I think your grandmother really enjoyed silence, peace and nature ... I would have liked to have met her.
I thought it was kind of dough mixer.
I learned how to do the wash on one of those in North Carolina. And we ironed with flatirons heated on the woodstove.
The washer brought back memories of my childhood. My grandmother had a similar washer.
