      In high school I was bullied a lot for being bisexual, so I understand the fear of coming out (mine was not a coming out but an outing, when I wasn't ready to come out yet), for 4 years and half I walked in hell. I got to not answering my home and mobile phones, even though I knew the numbers, I got to skipping school for weeks... I cried a lot, and now, still today, I bear the signs of that experience (not physical), the depression that I had continues at times, sometimes it becomes pressing again... If in the past I no longer wanted to live, now I continue to live because I can't give way to brainless idiots. Having gone to a school where the most written word on the walls was "dux mea lux" (reference to Mussolini), or a swastika certainly didn't help... Luckily I graduated, but at 30 years old, I still have zero self-esteem.

    Laurel is exactly how parents should be. Especially Christian and religious parents. This scene was beautiful. It reminded me of the scene of Nick coming out in Heartstopper. Just pure and wholesome and lovely.

      An actual Christian would follow what God says and He disproves of gay s ex, to the point He says they should be killed. Jesus, his son, didn't mention stuff like that because it wasn't a big issue for the early Christian movement.
      Of course there were gays back then but they definitely kept it to themselves in fear of death. Jesus would have 100% agreed with his Father on this topic as he is 'the image of God', as the Bible says. Yes, it's an unpopular view now but scripture is clear that gay stuff is wrong along with tons of other things that no one brings up because it's easier to pick on gay people rather than focusing on our own flaws.
      It's not my view - l don't think anyone should die for being gay but pretending that it's not a big deal or "open to interpretation" as Laurel does in this scene is not how God feels otherwise He would have had that opinion recorded rather than death to gays.

      @@peterwilliamskelhorn6675 What do you mean "well said"? What about what God said regarding gay* relations? Does that not count for anything? We live in such weak times where people hate to get their feelings hurt and screw biblical truths. Scary times ahead when Jesus returns...
      *It must be noted God disapprives of many straight sexual practices too but gays get singled out. All illicit sex acts should be looked into though. Gays should not be picked on when straight people are also doing things God doesn't like.

      I love the fact that even if he isn't gay in real life, he would have been asked if he was willing to do this and he wanted to. I think that's really sweet and mature. Plus, actors who take on these things always really want to get things right.

    I don't watch soaps but this was beautifully acted by both actors.
    I am lesbian( I grew up in section 28 ) , if ye watched its a sin ( ch4 drama by RTD) it shows you section 28 etc. I knew at 11 but came out at 13 to some. Funny thing was I lived in a very small village in Kent . There was one other gay male older than me who came out before me ovbs. Than he moved out ( no cause of hate of him being gay ) his career etc. Than at the time I was the only gay in the village.
    I'm 36 now. But more so asexual ( came out 4 years ago when I discovered this) most won't understand & its fine. But im still a lesbian.
    I know most who can't or do come out or get forced out.. its not for everyone & we have different opinions etc & I do understand that & i can't fathom or understand or feel how you do. Be it parents or your son / daughter & the latter. We all have our own views on it.
    And that is fine. I am not here to have a verbal war or hate or toxic. We can agree to disagree. And leave it at that.
    Thought I share & well done emmerdale for this storyline & awareness.
    Peace & love me 💚

      I'd like to ask you something. I am not interested in a verbal war or hate either.
      I don't judge because it is not my right to do that. I am a Christian and hetersexual. This scene appalled me, because the character Laurel lied about the Bible and Jesus. I felt disgusted because there was no need to involve Jesus in the scene, and it is obviously very offensive to Christians.
      Why is so acceptable to insult Christians and Jesus, when we live in world where you are called names like homophobic, if you disagree with the LGBT group?
      I would like to add that I have never said or felt any hate for the LGBT group, because as I said, it is not my business and I am not here to judge.
      I question how the LGBT group would feel if I told lies and insulted their beliefs?

    • @Different_Not_Broken
      @Different_Not_Broken Рік тому

      @Love animals i get you have a religion & thats fine. But everyone has the different opinions be it on the bible or the LGBTQ + side. You believe what you believe, others don't. And i mean this with no hate at all. I respect any religion etc. We all come from different ways of life / lifestyles & living. And how the other half live as they say. I can't really answer your question. But insulting anyone is bad enough added with the toxicity fuel of social media outlets. I can't speak for the others who insult ye religion or Jesus's or the bible. As we don't all run in the same crowd. Much as i respect my LGBTQ + community. I tend to be a lone wolf & have my own mind & thoughts & feelings. Anyway hope that helps.
      Take care

    • @loveanimals969
      @loveanimals969 Рік тому

      @@Different_Not_Broken Thank you for your reply. It's appreciated.
      The problem I have is "having a different opinion on the Bible." The character Laurel lied and contradicted what is written in the Bible. It wasn't an opinion, and like you, I say that with no malice. Jesus does say something about it, and the remark about validating was shocking and so insulting.
      However, sadly its the world we live in.
      Jesus tells us not to judge. Judgement is His alone, and He will judge all of us.
      I wish you well. Take care.

So when I went to junior high and high school and the kids around me came out as gay. I never regarded them as different, evil, targets for bullying, I just shrugged. Like ok that's who you are, can we play Yu-Gi-Oh now? I felt terrible that people build up how others will react to the news when I can attest that from the year 2002.... I accepted LGBTQ people because they were always normal to me, nothing changed, nothing was different. I loved my friends the same as always. If anything I wait until someone's comfortable to say they're gay because odds are, they're spiraling about it more than you ever will

    The "fear of queer" is painful and punishing. This clip is so powerful, because it is wholesome and loving. Emphasis on "loving". As to Scripture, I am an ordained, gay graduate Seminarian. The "sin" is forcing people, including children, to be what we are not. In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus says that "all men are not called to marry". He does not then go on to say they should not have sex. As former President Jimmy Carter has said on more than one occasion, "Homosexuality was around long before organized religion." As to homosexuality being a "sin": Living in denial of one's homosexuality is the real sin. "To thine ownself be true."

    This was so poignant. The UK Soaps are so wonderful dealing with Children's Issues whether it's their sexuality etc. In 2002 on December 24th Bianca Montgomery "Came Out" to her Mother on All My Children and her Mother Erica was mortified. Yet she came around, and even gave her blessing when Bianca got "Married".

    I did complain, but my complaint was ignored. Obviously it is impossible to defend such blatant lies, when the words are in the Bible.

    "If you read it trying to find something to validate your prejudices you'll probably find what you're looking for" "Do you not think Jesus would have mentioned it" It seems it is okay to lie about God and the Bible to satisfy the LGBT etc. group now. I am a Christian and this is insulting! It IS in the Bible.
    "She'd give her right arm for one of hers to be gay" What a ridiculous thing to say.

      You are the kind of people Laurel is talking about, Jesus spoke of love and compassion which oviouly people like you don't understand because you hold on to the old testement like it's the only part of the book. God made Homosexual's the way they are and if God does not make mistakes then that's it. How can any love be wrong but you only understand hate

      @@nancycottone2155 I do NOT read the Bible to validate prejudices. I read the Bible because I am a Christian. "You are the kind of people" that do not face facts because it doesn't suit you. Perhaps you should read the Bible, because there are a number of passages that refer to homosexuality, not just Leviticus. This isn't about hate, it's about the truth and it is a lie to say that Jesus didn't mention it. Be honest! Stop lying about the Bible.
