Are we not going to talk about how someone at Nintendo figured that the perfect soundtrack for a video game about a small town civilization ruled by a society of talking animals is composed of minimal downtempo latin jazz fusion?
...and they were right?!
😂
Seriously though, Nintendo composers are fucking geniuses, always have been, always will be
Jazz love is universal, atleast where people play Animal Crossing. Even if people don't know it, they probably like good jazz :). Especially when it's relaxing and even happy sounding.
Thats why we love Nintendo
"downtempo latin jazz" did you mean Bossa Nova?
@@caseys2698 Yes, just look at the thank game music from Wii Play.....fcking astrologie taken place there
hey Dylan, it's me.. from the future..
New Horizon switched the soundtrack to really high-tempo Black Metal, please update your video before it comes out, thanks bye
Lol
But they're pulling that bait and switch with Doom Eternal where most of the soundtrack is really chill and groovy, so he can just swap all instances where he named either game.
alternate lo-fi kick and snare 16th notes at 135 bpm. that's it.
I want to like this comment but it has 666 likes.. the perfect number
I really don’t like a majority of it. I miss acnl music.... :(
The comments are right, DOOM and Earthbound are indeed good musics to break down
Don't forget you can get the Animal Crossing soundfont to get all these sounds premade!!!
He mentioned that, but he also walks through *how to make the sounds from scratch* which is a much more useful thing in the context of the overall video
Please do the DOOM music, I would love that breakdown
tbh Mick Gordon has been pretty open about his process for making the Doom OST, I'm not sure what Dylan could add to it.
@@NeuroCatalyst this, plus I don't think dylan has a downtuned 7 string guitar or synths like mick has to replicate it
Dude. This is the DOOM music, not animal crossing.
NeuroCatalyst mick gordon ?? he made 2 three minutes videos, how can’t he add anything to that
@@linkenparis9562 he has an hour long talk at GDC
How to Wii music, like how to make music that emits Wii vibes.
Wii music actually was made by the same person who composed the animal crossing soundtracks
Only now do I realize how many you tubers use animal crossing music.
Codex same lol
I noticed it a little bit before but the second I started playing it myself I can usually always pick it out
Codex lo fi beats are NOT “animal crossing music”
@@gerardosalas9477 "los hi" beats?
@@codexstudios i think they meant lofi beats
How To: Hotline Miami next
I know that the soundtrack is made with various artist, but it will be like ''how to Dark Synthwave''
*Darkwave
Nice profile pic lol
How to carpenter brut
How to M O O N
@@Rannument *Darksynth
I love the original game's soundtrack. The BGM always seemed like it was intentionally made to sound kind of amateurish, like someone playing with a Casio keyboard's preinstalled samples. And I love that.
A tutorial I never thought I needed
you should seriously put all of these up as 1 hour loops on youtube

Having not played the gamecube version I could easily be convinced a lot of your renditions are actually in the game from what I've heard of them.
14:34 this entire song is SO GOOD I love it
Really thought I was going to learn how to make the kk slider singing voice effect 😭😭😭😭
Just download the KK Slider soundfont :)
@@vaporcruise bruh I did and I tried opening it with Sforzando and the main wee woh way sounds ain't pulling up idk how else to open it
@Moi Slazzy try this musical-artifacts.com/artifacts?formats=sf2&tags=animal+crossing
just scroll down to the N64/GC sf
ViperDemon020 gonna try it soon thanks 🙏
Mmmm soundfounts maybe?
It is so weird how many people are talking about animal crossing now. I get the new game is coming up, but like, we never got this for new leaf for some reason.
It's been 7 years, the community has gotten older :)
Matthew Simone I mean.... the community has gotten bigger too.
I normally don't watch videos this long without increasing the playback speed but my intrigue and nostalgia got the best of me. I especially liked the songs at 13:10 and 14:34. 13:57 sounded like a shop tune and 15:23 definitely made me especially sleepy lol. Great work!
What about T E R R A R I A music?
Yesss!
alot of the terraria sounds were made in a vst called daHornet. just a random fact :D
@@officialtonygaming3323 thank you so much!! i might check that out
YES, i swear every game OST is unique, but terraria's takes it to the next level, i've literally never heard anything similar, it's super funky and not that complicated in terms of synths, it's just full of different textures and blips.
yes
id also add that they always have a leitmotif of sorts with the main title theme! it'll always pop up in some way or another :)
Ngl I watch this video at least every month. Probably my favorite yt video
“The Lick” is at 8:35
and at 7:00
Glad someone else heard those
And at 8:46
11:48 made me laugh more than it should have.
Why did nobody notice the froggy chair at the beginning?
Darxoon Productions Errr...You might want to just leave it unnoticed...lol. Trust me.
well unexpected but i didn't know i needed this in my life until now lol
I'd love to see you break down Splatoon's music. Both games have a super unique feel that is a large part of what makes the world's culture so convincing. The tracks are fairly diverse, even having songs grouped into fictional bands, each with their own distinct style. Overall, I feel it could make for a super interesting analysis.

oh my god I forgot frankjavcee existed until this comment.
I fell in love with the last 3 ones
Witch ones???
@@jimbobrl8453 the last 3 ones
@@nyunno Witch ones???
@@SoundShunter72 the fourth one
the reason the accordion swells in volume is because in order to play it, the bellows fill with (and expel) air when the two halves are pulled apart or pressed together, similar to bowing a string instrument back and forth. the AC composers emulated this function of the accordion to a tee, even with the perfect cheesy soundfont, probably by using a midi keyboard’s mod wheel!
very cool, thanks for sharing! I checked out your channel and saw that you don't have any videos. That's a shame, I'd love to see you make a video.
@@Andrew-qm5im?
Make them in minor and add 16th high hat rolls and you got yourself a mumbelrap banger
idk if u still check comments for old vids but i just wanna say that this video is a jewel. Seriously it's sooooo gooood thank you sm
Ya know.. listening to you songs vs. the original game’s music, I think they use silence more than you. I don’t think your songs are worse, but I think it’s cool how the use of silence is a noticeable difference. At least for me.
Silence is definitely a huge part of Animal Crossing music. A few moments of silence can help the music sink in and give you a moment of quiet to just take everything in.
Really if there's a favorite part of animal crossing of mine, it's that.
@@beingmegucaissuffering.5326 Only now i realize, hat's a typical characteristic of Kazumi Totaka's compositions. He made all the animal sountracks and the wii mii channel theme. The mii channel theme uses a lot silence, it's great how it's still an intricate piece of music with like only two layers, only using what is really necessary
you did phenomenally well man, these tracks youve made make me nostalgic even though they didnt exist in the game.
IVE LITERALLLLLY BEEEENNNN WANTING A TUTORIAL LIKE THIIISSS. YOU ARE THE FIRST!!!!
Ngl animal crossing music is lit
6:47 it's sounds more like a clavinet then a electric guitar
i agree, but in the soundfont the sound is actually named Electric Guitar
Dylan Tallchief You had a Lead named Snare in one of your video, i think your computer trying to kill your mind
Actually I play the clarinet and it's not that similar... It still doesn't sound like an electric guitar though
Pinktiger_123 clavinet and clarinet are two very different things
Dude your lil songs were so good ! Nice work
Okay the last 4 ones were absolute BOPS, you're amazing.
man you deserve much much more views and subs. you really put some effort in this, and the whole video is so satisfying to watch, great job
+1 sub
wow those last ones, i fr tought the video switched to the actual soundtrack
Exactly what Im looking for my boy, right on time as always
You should release a 10-hour loop of each track.
15:23 my favourite one , gg man , you always do an amazing job
a lot of animal crossing music is very dub inspired. some of it like 4:33 is strait up dub. if you like animal crossing music check out some dub artists like scientist and king tubby
so nostalgic 😟
This is my first time listening to any instance of Animal Crossing music, I could not help but smile a bit. : )
im gonna listen to this walking around my campus, should improve shitty days
It's very fun and easy to make these. I made a lot of them within seeing this video. Thank you for the wonderful idea. I've always listened to them whilst studying but never tried to make em in ableton. It's loads of fun
That 2nd track's got some Gymnopédie No.1 vibes to it and I love it~
Thanks so much for this! Love ya man!
your creations (especially the last song) were like little dancers in my ears and i loved it
Great breakdown and hilarious style. Subscribed.
yoooooo these tracks you made are some of your best work
Great editing and comedic timing in the intro.
This is better than many of the covers people do, good video. The only thing you needed what the same motif played in most of the pieces you made. Once you get that catchy melody, you can really flesh this thing out.
I'd love to see a How To: Pikmin. the music in that game is similar to animal crossings in some areas but in others like in pikmin 2s caves, it completely deviates and turns super WACKY.
Dayumm, Dylan,
You're a Legend!!!!
My new favorite UA-cam video; Animal Crossing & an overview of it's fantastic music
Sheeet this cold🥶
I don't have acces to my PC so i can only use my laptop to make music, and of course it's not powerful enough to make my usual genre.
Thank you Dylan, I'll spend my quarantine making Animal Crossing music.
Thank you for real, have a good day and stay safe.
the two songs from 13:57 actually slap
I was looking for this exact explanation. Thank you.
Good video! I appreciate lots of examples, I appreciate the humor. Subscribed
It was cool learning about the anatomy of an Animal Crossing song. Thank you!
why did the censor beeps have to be so loud
this got me so excited for the 20th. great tracks! i want these to put in a playlist on repeat.
Thank you! my appreciation to this music has leveled up!
great breakdown!!
This is an insanely good tutorial, even for people who want to learn how to produce in the first place, specifically, how to program the drums for a bossa nova song
Great job, and thank you! I can't wait to try this.
Also you nailed the original Animal Crossing music style. I think the composers would be impressed.
KK.BeatMaker
Really informative, great video!
damn some of these are real bops! Thank you!!
goddamn that last one was really moody!
Tom nook gave me brithday gift :D
Then charged me 1.000.000 bells.
i waited so long for this
Oh this is sooo dope thank you! 😀
Imma be honest. Would've preferred your songs to the NH soundtrack
Please do wii sport/menu screen type of music! I don’t know why but wii music makes me extremely nostalgic!
Great job Dylan very nice! 😌
description underrated
Creating a Song that you can hear 10 hours on loop without it becoming annoying is indeed genius.
7:01 hold up, that's almost the L I C C !
At 8:35 too !
actually as someone that want to learn how to produce music, or want to get some kind of inspiration, the way you break the songs down and explain how is their structure is very helpful
I'd recommend to you the channel "Music Design" He produces entire remakes of Nintendo songs in Fl studio with every instrument line, and make a full song analysis, with how to recreate every sound, to the theory, to the song's context and everything
@@vascosanchez Oh, thank you so much, I'll check it out!
the new horizons music is so jazzy i love it especially 12 pm its so fun to listen to
I didn't realize I needed this video until right now
This is my favorite video on UA-cam!
This is a great video!! thank youuuu
damn this reminds me of undertale. and that just makes me sad (not in a way of something being bad but in a "feels" way). great video!

I don't know why I found this revelation so funny.
thank you so much for this
I can never get enough AC music tbh. Perfection.
Well freak I never knew I needed this....

Love this.
thank you dylan
I used to use Sforzando. And I used to play Animal Crossing: Wild World. I am your target audience for this video :) Your fine film here has me twitching - I have an overwhelming need now to dig out my Nintendo DS and dig my poor, neglected village out if the weeds that have no doubt overrun my poor town! Also, Sforzando looks much cooler now! I really need to try it again.
