Three weeks into my first carpentry job, love your videos. Changed careers at 31 years old after 16 years of nothing but restaurant industry and hating ever day of it. Loving carpentry so far, it feels like much more rewarding work and I'm already learning a ton.
How u finding it 😅
@@liamcarpangler4032😂 still loving it. I'm fortunate to work for a great company. Boss takes us to Alaska for a week every July.
With Ryan's ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxy_pn55PK60wAV3X_C_RoLS_67mNonoCE plan, I was like one taken by the hand and led step by step from start to finish. Thank you very much Ryan!
Thoroughly enjoyed that one mate. "Just turn up everyday and eventually you get better." Truer words are rarely spoken. Thanks Scott!
Yeah I thought that was a real inspiration to any young person thinking of giving up. Just keep on keeping on and eventually you will get there.
So true...
@@petederksen9300 hard to buy reliability these days.
1 - Work hard,
2 - Don't be a dick,
3 - You don't get worse at anything,
I cane to write that exact quote! Looks like I’m a year late but so very true, I’ve been learning carpentry and it’s been a struggle to hold a “skillsaw straight” like Scott said but seeing how great he is now and that he struggled really settles me and makes me more hopeful! Cheers Scott!
Loved this video. I also started out in construction with zero experience. Started on the ground floor with a broom in my hand and finished the job on the 28th floor on a swing scaffold as a framer. It’s a little sad how that type of work has been been looked down upon for years in the US. If you didn’t get your degree in a field that led you to a desk job, you were failing. But who’s happier? Love how effortless and calm you make everything look in your process. Thanks for sharing.
Always look forward to your videos Scott. The mix between work & personal provides a nice balance that is really enjoyable to watch!
Best vid yet Scott! Appreciate the background fella. Good timed served proper knowledge my man!
Thank you for this informative video. It is a delight to have a short backstory of how you rolled into the business and what your perspective was at the time. You are a mind reader BTW. I was thinking to myself, it has been a while since I saw a new SBC video and there you popped onto my screen with another Exciting episode. As always, cheers from Holland
Thank you for sharing your story of your professional progression/ realization. Your humility is genuine. Again, thank you.
Really enjoy the video editing, cinematography, and soundtracks to the videos! Seems like your attention to detail extends beyond just carpentry. Keep up the solid work! Cheers!
Great editing on this one Scott. I loved all the traveling shots, especially the ones where I could tell the camera was a long ways away from you. I could tell they took quite a bit of thought to set up and get right. Thanks for all the hard work you do to make the videos fun to watch!
Good on you Scott, your channel is one of the best out there for insightful content and your workmanship both on and off the tools is superb, congratulations on 15 years, keep up the good work!
Hey Scott, really dig the videos and music, I’m an aspiring carpenter in Hawaii, been painting and drywall for over a decade and now I’m starting over (30 years old)
Love it. Great style and flow to video. Really great viewing and great content as always. Keep up the good work...esp on the videos, it's great to see a new upload!
I'm on year 17 as of this June and I can remember all the breakpoints and thresholds of when you noticeable improve and all the teachers I've had. Great video! Can relate 110%
Great story Scott, it's fun to hear the story of others. I remember when I started feeling like I was a carpenter...... but I wasn't.
Your channel is fantastic! Keep it up!
Nice tour. Loving the view from the board 😄
I love seeing Auckland! Reminds me of the time I spent there! Love the story and videographie.
I love how your so down to earth and relatable and get what it’s like to be young in the workforce
Scott, i loved this video man. You are very good at editing these videos. Glad to hear about your backstory. Every one has one some better than others. Even though you hated carpentry at first i am glad you stuck around. I am sure you have inspired many folks.
Mate, I absolutely love your attitude towards what you do for a living, it's so inspiring. I also love your videos! Awesome cinematorgaphy and content. Keep them coming!
Really wholesome video man!
Thanks for sharing ☺
Love the way you shared your journey, very interesting!! Apparently you are very good at Carpentry and video making, thanks so much for sharing!!
Such a great video mate!
I've been watching the channel for a few weeks mate (watching them in a very random order, however they come up in my suggested feed) and really love your content.
This one was different, but in a good way. Love that you are able to revisit your development, right back to the very beginning. Very cool. Thanks for sharing. Keep up the awesome content.
Nice video! I liked the format, very entertaining, enjoyable and simple. Good job!
Hey Scott!I like watching your videos!Best of success on your channel and your company!
Great job Dad!, for giving your son the guidance he needed. You must be so proud of him for the man, carpenter, and content creator he has become!
Great retrospective. Thanks for sharing.
Love ur work!
Skater boi, weather looks awesome! very jealous & a bit home sick. You're very trusting leaving your camera for all those pass by shots.
Scott i have never commented on any of your videos but your slow pace in explaining and the way you narrate and produce your videos is second to none! After watching a fair few of your videos you fast became one of my most watched youtubers along side izzy swan :)
Love your work mate you certainly deserve a lot more subscribers!
You post great content man.
Can’t explain but got very excited from beginning of the video probably you made me go back when I started, like your videos and I learn from you, thank you
Great content man you’re a really down to earth guy who works hard at his craft, fair play 👍🏻
LOvEing this channel. Nice Scott.
Your video are awesome bro keep them coming
Class as always bro
Watching the footage from the fish market bring back memories. I worked on the site since the start putting support I beams into the old crapy building that latter was transformed into what it is today. Moved out of NZ in 2007, so its nice to watch these...
Always excellent scott
inspiring bro in my third yr as a union apprentice here in nyc love it so far
Your editing is on point!! I love your videos mate
Enjoyable, easy to watch, interesting, positive vibes mate. Keep them coming. 🏴🔨
You pretty much echoed my beginnings of carpentry. Same areas in Auckland too. I was glad to get on to residential building though. Great video, even if I'm a year late!
Editing skills is maaaad 😍
Good job sticking with it. Now look at you. You're very good at what you do and you have people all around the world watching your videos. Cheers mate! 👍🍺
Love that you said what got through that first year "just turning up" ... taught my boy that and now he is a 23yo Electrician!
I kept turning up to a building job, I then looked at people working in offices here in Auckland City getting paid 3 times what I was on. I then said "I'm a mug standing outside in the blazing sun earning eff all" . I then became one of the peeps in an office , I havent looked back either
Awesome video, made me homesick. Left Auckland in '98 and NZ in '02. Used to live in some office space we converted on Shortland Street, could see over the roller mill and park to the sea then!
Scott, I love your channel.
Scott, Loved hearing your story. Super enjoyable Video. keep it up as I'm always keen to see the next episode.
Thanks mate!
Amazing vid man !! Great stuff
Nice one mate
Steve
I went over most of your build videos and found out that they are very useful and enjoying and that made me thinking ... why this guy has only about 34k or so subscribers while he should have hundreds of thousands !!! After watching these videos hitting the subscribe button is logical ... and there you go ... a new subscriber is on board .
Good on you making your way from dropping out.
Hey Scott. I love the way that a carpenter in New Zealand is pretty much a house builder and a carpenter in England is! well, a carpenter. I love that you do these vids and show the rest of us your life. It like watching a biography of someone. I watch youtube more than I watch TV these days as I get to choose what I want to watch and who to watch. I'm still bummed that you didn't pick me for the router plate but I forgive you. Love the vids dude.
Carpenters are people that build houses with wood. In the UK they special in roofs but also install doors, windows and stairs.
There are carpenters in the UK that do complete house building such as wooden houses. There are also carpenters in the UK that do green carpentry which means using fresh woold to do roofs and complete houses.
By and large in the UK carpenters just do roofs.
really really loving this style of video man. As a younger teenager really excited to become a carpenter in the united states this is really cool seeing you talk about your first jobs.
Really cool Scott 💯👊🏽
what a good, positive, video!!!! Excellent!
I love seeing all of the carpentry you tubers skateboard!
Really enjoyed this video 👍
Good stuff bro
Your pride in your work is infectious.
Great video Scott. Great to see your back story. I too became a builder because my old man was one and he too pushed me into it and just like you hated it until I learnt what I was doing. Now after 34 years in the trade I have so many skills. My son decided to be chippie as well, he qualified late last year and we work together doing remodeling in Hamilton. Keep up the good work.
That's awesome man, bet you make a good team
Mate you always put a good slant on getting into the industry . I remember my labouring hammerhand days they sucked lol .but at some point along the line you think I've got this job. Another awesome video man
I jumped into carpentry after 10 years in the office world, didn't have my old man to teach me so youtube is my teacher, and you are one of my tutors. Thanks Scott for your videos. I enjoy every one of them.
I’ve just started my apprenticeship as a mature aged apprentice and boy is it scary not knowing anything.
You’ve been a big inspiration and thanks for that mate.
I’ve watched most of your videos and just wanted you to know if you ever see this. Thanks.
how old are you Bean?
I'm three years into my carpentry career and I'm loving every moment of it!!! I'm learning something new every day.
This surely was different but enjoyable to see how you got started. I got my first start carrying roofing shingles up to the roof for my dad and his two brothers ( uncles ) to nail down. I got paid $.50 a bundle.
Absolutely great vid! Very inspirational getting to learn your journey into becoming a proud and skilled craftsman. Stoked that you stuck through it and are taking us along with you as your continue to enjoy your career! Love the vids and can't wait to "hang-out" in the next episode.
Cheers man 🙂
@@ScottBrownCarpentry Thanks Scott! You are outstanding and I fricking love your channel! You actually make my day better and I very much appreciate that you take so much time outta your day to film and edit and post your vids. So, from the bottom of my heart, thank you!
This has a nice Casey Neistat touch to it! Good job buddy. Love your videos!
Thank you so much for this video. I’m 28 years old and just started my apprenticeship in September. Right now I’m finding it very challenging and I often feel discouraged or I get in my head quite often with the mistakes that I make.
However watching this is a kindly reminder to keep going strong and take it day by day.
Cheers!
Thankyou for this comment, I’m 16 and have just finished my first day of work experience in carpentry, and I absolutely hated it, but now I feel like I should stick it out for a while
I was 16 when I first started working on building sites. As a teaboy/labourer. In South London, England. I progressed to becoming a bricklayer. I'm now 52 and a tiler. I wasn't a very good bricklayer. But I am a very good tiler. I haven't always worked within the construction industry but having experience in the building industry enabled me to work in various different countries when I travelled, picking up techniques and skills along the way. In 2005 my partner and I emigrated to NZ. If I was 16 again would pick carpentry.
As a 14yo kid in the 70's, my dad was an electrical contractor and used to take me to work with him on building sites on the weekends and holidays.
He used to pimp me out helping the other trades.
I kind of hated it at the time - it was so hot and dusty - especially on high rise projects where it always seemed to be the.middle.of summer (in Sydney) working on the top decks preparing for concrete pours (i.e. absolutely no shade).
I used to get $5 per day - until the union rep came sniffing around - and then dad gave me a pay rise!
Looking back, it was a lot of fun and I learnt a lot about many different aspects of building. These days I am an electrical engineer - but it has made me very practically inclined and acutely conscious of the implications my decisions and designs will have on contractors.
It is a shame that modern OH&S rules would now prohibit this type of activity.
Its so cool to me as a first year apprentice when you worked in that rialto cinema and right now Im working in the building next door.
Surprising Design and easy building guide
Sweet vid bro! Good day for a skate
I'm about to start a mature age carpentry apprenticeship on Monday. I've been a sparky for 20+ years and sick of it. Now at 46 I'm starting again. Bit scary.
Really enjoying your vids. 😎👍
Great video
Scott I love your videos and your enthusiasm. I'm currently thinking of becoming a carpentry apprentice at 32 years old. I was going to start law school next fall but decided I don't want that debt this late in life and really don't want a desk job. My biggest concern with carpentry is that I'll have to spend a lot of time away from my wife and daughter for work, I live in the central valley of California, a lot of the work is up north where the billionaires are pushing out the millionaires.
U are a carpenter but also an artist. Good content.
the coolness of this channel, the sublime presentations & the naturalness of being intelligent & informative --- it's not a carpenter's world i am watching --- it's a poet's metamorphosis into a guy walking into a 4square problem with a tool belt while his skateboard waits patiently in the truck . . . . . .
I’ve just finished my first year as a carpenter apprentice in England and this is a spot on video once I’ve finished my apprenticeship and do a few years in England I’d love to come over to Australia / New Zealand
joinry is soo shit honestly
You make carpentry so approachable and interesting without the old boy mentality, ive watched a few of your videos and you seem super chill, i bet your a breeze to work with man! Keep it up
Nice one. We've been building the same amount of time and on similar type of work...and judging by your videos we're still doing similar lol. I enjoyed building when i first started, but 10 years later I was losing interest fast, then I chose to start my own business and all I can say is what a ride. Loving it!!!
Lol That's cool man definitely similar! I went through the same rough patch. I learned that was a sign that I needed a change. Worked out well since then !
Tanks scott...i alwais engoy your videos!!👌
love the skateboarding skills
Becoming my favourite channel...
Miss the building game back home since moving to Sydney 11yrs ago had to change my job to suit my kids while they were at school (forklift driver) think of all the good times in the trade & the skills I learnt on the way...
Brilliant Scott.. I love your story .. a shame more young people are not shown how to get out and start a Career.. I will now look at the Rialto with fresh eyes!! Did you have a camera person with you?👍😎
I’m becoming a roofer, but great videos Scott!
This was a real good one.
Looks like a nice way to spend a day off!
I really enjoy and appreciate your videos. I am a carpenter and glazier as well
i hope your father wasnt David Brown (haha).A few memories in that video Scott Sanfords i remember and the flying toilet seat MLC building i think it is.You have come along way in 15 years well done
I’m an engineer and I work for an automotive company...nothing to do with carpentry/building but I’m hooked! Keep em coming
Big praise from your finishing boss.
My American worker expects high fives and endless praise for the half job he manages.
😂😂
2:49 those words right there... is a great big deal!
You just described “Consistency”
Same thing with me doing Electrical.. now... I’m a baker! Hahah nah now I’m a sparky
Love the fact you skated rather than just drive from site to site.
Thanks for catching my site at 6:21 🤩🤩🤩
Excellent video, Scott. And a nice insight into what made you a good carpenter. BTW Auckland looks like a nice place to live (but I read that housing is a bit of a problem, right?).
Traffic is the problem. Housing is just expensive.
Great tips for any one..it's normal to be green and nervous and unsure when starting something new. Therefore the first days weeks months can be daunting. It some point after sticking with and turning up every day on time it clicks
You and I started building around the same time I’ve been in construction since I was 17 and I’m 37 now and I wouldn’t have it any other way!!
