  • Ichimonji no Kamae (Gata) Kihon basics.
    Note: This is one interpretation that is practiced. It would never look exactly this way in a "real fight".
    These "classical katas" are drilling movements and warm-ups to improve one's footwork, timing and distancing.

    The breakdown and how you make visible the invisible of time distance and movement.. A1! 👏🏾👏🏾 Thank you for this.

    I really enjoy your videos. although I only trained Jissen Bujutsu for a short few years I found it to be a wonderful form. Always find myself wondering back to your videos to watch.

    Very nice video, thanks! But how would this work against opponents who draw back their fist after they punched?

      Retraction of the punch is natural in reality. One would just ride it in and continue fighting on the fly. The arm is left out here just for "stopping time" and for teaching purposes. When we spar, arms never hang out.

    Where's the overhead sword slash ?

    • @MrZillas
      @MrZillas 2 роки тому

      No, the starting-position is having the left fist on the head, that's "doko no kamae" (a stance). As he said in the video, you dont only slash your arm, but it's rather a full movement of your body, you hit and walk forward same time, bringing way more power into the punch than rather hitting with the arm. Remember E=mc². The energy you send to the opponent is speed*mass. So the speed is your movement, but the mass is your body. Your body has more mass than the arm, and if these punches are correctly, they are pretty dangerous. Boxers also use their legs to collect energy from the bottom into their legs, into the whole movement and the fist becomes the end of the movement.

    Great video/lesson as always. what sensation or energy are you projecting with the shouto to knock the uke down?

      Karl, the shuto is used by putting the whole body behind the strike. All punching begins from the ground up.
