The game devs actually made a series of promotional short films that flesh out some of the game lore. They are called "Soma - Transmissions" if you want to take a look after you complete your playthrough.

Oh, no. You fried poor Carl before you exhausted all his dialogue. It's worth looking up, his voice actor did a great job.

You can data mind any body you find. Unfortunately for Carl you basically fried him when you pulled the lever so you missed important conversation with him.

It's a bit sad that as much as you say you like this game, you don't pay attention to the instructions in the game and the lore around you (notes, messages left etc). For example, the computer told you that it found a couple solutions to open the control center door, but you just ignored that and moved to the first solution. Also you flipped that switch before exploring everything, you locked out a bunch of dialogue with Carl that would have explained more. Then at the tram, it told you that you had insufficient power and that you had to free some energy, and just partially disconnecting Amy would have been enough (though it's debatable that leaving Amy alive is a good choice)

Yeah, Miranda seems very patient one second, reading all the messages and looking around at everything, and then the next turning straight past things and clicking off screens without reading or taking anything in. I’m sure it’s more difficult to commentate whilst playing than just playing in your own time so I don’t want to be overly critical, it’s just a frustratingly inconsistent style, especially from someone so (mostly) engaged in the experience.

I have seen an embarrassing amount of let’s plays of this game and even after so many rewatches it still is so intriguing to me, i totally agree with you this is one of the best games ever made, and i could geek about this game endlessly and it’s so much fun to see you geek out over it 😄

Yes ive played it and loved the story. It is very well written and acted. The questions this game poses are unsaid by the characters. But the situations and interactions with NPC's as you progress on your journey throws these philosophical questions at you. The game gives you the context but never gives you straight answers to these questions, leaving you to answers these as best as you can, using your own experiences and reality to try and figure out what makes you human and how you perceive your place in the world. For each person who plays this game, the way they come to their own conclusion of what it means to be human is different, yet they play the game ALL the same way as you do. No matter who plays it the narrative is exactly the same for everybody, yet each person comes to a different conclusion, depending on their life experiences. Thats what makes this game a masterpiece. Looking forward to the next episode.

Absolutely agreed. I don’t want to say anything and spoil it for her, but when i finished the game, I just sat and thought about it for such a long time, and the questions the game raises have stuck with me ever since.

It's a geothermal plant, the heat expelled from the opening spins the turbine and creates power for all of pathos-2 so that it is self-sufficient and doesn't need fuel from above the ocean to power the facility.

I don't know if this is going to make you feel better about Carl bot, but you could have shut off flow control to power the comms room and insta-kill him painlessly.
However, it would have also let the Construct (monster from downstairs) into the area, requiring you to sneak around it all the way to the comms room ladder.

  • @Shintada2

Something I haven't seen specifically in a skim of your comments yet - you misheard Robot Carl when you first approached him - he didn't say 'What the hell are you?', he said 'What the hell happened to you?'. And shortly after that, he asked if you'd gone diving in sewage. Would've been an early hint about being in the diving suit, and that maybe Simon's perceptions weren't...entirely accurate, let's say.
Agree with something others said about it, though - you failed to exhaust his dialogue BEFORE you crushed him, which would've given you a bit more information to puzzle over. Might want to look up that part to see what you missed.

  • @KMallinson

The thing you were trying to wrap your mind around: I think they were referring to The Continuity of Consciousness. It's a philosophical question about the hardest part of creating a virtual version of your brain. Even if they succeed, are you YOU, or are you a copy of you? Are you dying and being replaced, or are you "being moved to a robot"? And does the distinction mean anything to you?

Miranda after going through an empty office in a bustling city and encountering one person: "OH THANK *GOD!!!* SIGNS OF LIFE!!!"
Miranda after meeting the first thing that didn't try to rip her throat out when it saw her miles under the ocean with no signs of life anywhere: 15:15
17:53 - Wow, that's a nice detail. The last people I saw shut off the power fairly quickly and he talked normally. But since you just stood there and let him scream and writhe in agony for no reason I think you fried is audio receptors so that he can't hear you anymore and/or traumatized him so thoroughly that he's incapable of thinking clearly anymore. Great job!
1:29:59 - It still has the most natural feeling, real, and evocative dialogue and voice acting of any game I've ever seen in my life.

YEP - I've played it, I loved it, and TOTALLY couldn't believe how great the story was. People kept telling me to play it, that the story is fantastic and left them thinking, and all I could think of was "How can a horror game have such an impactful story?" Well... after I finished it, I 100% understood and agreed with all the hype. I think the coolest part (looking back) was seeing how much my perspective changed about the game from beginning to end - and I can't wait to watch it happen here too (I know it's gonna happen...lol). Best of luck Mirandalorian. 🙂

I love how invested you're getting, and already saying you want to recommend the game to others even though you've barely started - that atmosphere sucks you in though, right?! Technically, you didn't need to kill Amy by pulling out the second cable, but you did her a favor really ❤
Also, I loved your contemplation of what it means to be human, during the survey - really interesting to listen to.

Why do you think that after 2 activations the conversation with the robot is over? So you can press 2 times, but you can't press 3 times, what logic made you think that? You could have gotten a lot of information from it. With that logic you will miss 90% of the lore. You didn't have to kill him, but you're too limited to see all the options. Your face showing compassion after that is just ridiculous.

1:34:00 👀 I think you're onto something. As you said it, people are thinking or trying to do that now meaning back then there were people who were already contemplating that and working on it. In the game at this point I guess it would be implied or actually confirmed that the living Catherine would have been one of those people because you're playing the game and that would mean any of the people in the game who would have encountered Catherine would have been introduced to that pet project she was talking about but then the meteorite hit and it became a reality. so the same could be said by what you brought up. That the people who are trying to do that today. It will exist it's just a matter of when the time will come up just like in the came so why not be one the side that is doing this research. That's always the questions that come up in these things. 1:37:33.
I think the problem that comes up is there is no guarantee of problems to be so we would be creating systems to store our consciousnesses in creating immortality but there would never be any advancement beyond the point in which it was all created. I think it's fun you're playing this after Stellar Blade though because it asked many similar questions. Humanity ends robots or digital is the next step in evolution. That we ditch what we are in terms of those things 1:40:20 it is deep. I don't like existential dread I hope I end long before we actually have to face ether robots as our forms or in the digital consciousness ha ha I don't need to worry about that, I am not gonna be a person to preserve humanity so I'll let others think of that I am gonna be long gone by the time humanity reaches that point 1:42:03 I tell you what, it doesn't matter. You need not to have that existential dread because other people can handle that when it comes time unless you enjoy putting the weight of existence on your mind. All that we are is data. We are just an arrangement of atoms and we perceive the light that is emitted so our brains just process that data and we get a visualize of people so if all we are data so if you think in that sense when we pass all we are losing is the data so if consciousness is data then it can die if it doesn't get preserved but consciousness lives if that data is preserved.

@1:50:46 But do we label ourselves "human" in order to better understand what "human" means, or do we do it in order to separate ourselves from other living things and disqualify them from our experiences?
Are those the same thing? Does a label help you understand the thing, or does it end up presupposing the thing, and potentially constraining your perception and understanding of what it is or could be?
If an object labelled itself a "table", and by that label separated itself from all other objects, would it ever consult a chair in the hopes of better understanding itself? Possibly not, and what insight and understanding could be never found because of it?
