    Thanks! LOVED the intro. That German WW2battery was massive. Couldn't believe all of the brickwork. Excellent workmanship. It would have been something to see in it's original form. It's a good thing you had your trusty flashlights with you. A shame it was flooded though. Yes, most likely the locals took some of the magnificent brickwork and put it to good use. What a view, it was ideally situated. You can be sure the Germans knew what they were doing, we just may never know the real story behind it. Thank you HH and EE. Really found that site intriguing. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year EE, HH, and BBG. Also, to all of the WW2 History Hunter viewers and supporters from around the world. Hopefully, the war between Russia and Ukraine will finally come to a stop. My thoughts are with the soldiers, family, civilians on both sides. Take care everyone.

    Thanks again for another great day out HH and EE. I was particularly fascinated by the bullet holes and shrapnel marks at the entrance where the allies attacked what was probably a defunct facility - all that construction and it was beaten by a few grenades and small-arms - brilliant!

    So awesome to see this huge structure with all the amazing workmanship! And to top it all we get to see the view from the torpedo tube mount. Germany wanted to prepare for every eventuality along the Atlantic wall and this is another great example! Thank you HH and EE for this wonderful adventure.

    As I look at the chambers that were hollowed out of the rock I am just once again amazed at the amount of labor and effort it took just to create the chambers, much less then brick them, concrete the floors and create the stairs! It must have cost a small fortune to build this stuff! I wonder what they did with all the rock they removed? They needed miners to blast out the rock to create the chambers. WOW! Thanks for taking us through this facility and providing the pictures of it in action during the war. Another EE and HH special episode! Stay safe and stay well!

      So much work involved and when one is there one can fully understand the dimensions and all the gear that must have been there. i think the rock could be spread out around the area and even dumped into the sea. Great explore and thanks so much Donald for your great support and we wish you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from us.

      @@WW2HistoryHunter excellent. Probably a four parter. I wonder if some of the construction started on opening for the gun first? They could have made a temporary or floating dock. And had the materials brought in from the seaside. They could have also worked from the land side at the same time and met up.
      The Germans kept precise records. Is there a timeframe for records being released? (Like after 70 or 75 years they become public?)😀😀

    Well done my friend. The door at timestamp 7:28 is a floor cover from above. You will find they used that overhead rail to lower torpedoes down for storage or setup up for the launcher. Well done both of you on this site.

    That is some very impressive brickwork you found. To think that the whole underground area was lined like that. The amount of time, effort, and manhours involved is incredible. That whole torpedo bunker system is just amazingly stunning. Would love to have seen it before the locals removed all the steelwork and bricks. That would have been an incredible sight. I think the mindset of the designers, and builders, of these places was typical of the time. Without the benefit of the satellites, radar, sonar, drones, etc. that we use nowadays, they just had to defend everywhere at once, ignoring the fact such places may never see action. The whole Atlantic Wall project is just mind blowing in its complexity, and scale. Thank you for sharing this incredibly unique place with us. Cheers to you all! Stay safe!

Was also thinking how it would be neat to make a house within there; with a huge window where the torpedo exit is. A lot of work, but the views afterwards. Too bad there wasn't a way to see what was above the base. Thanks for streaming this. Looking for our next adventure. Hello to EE. Have a MERRY CHRISTMAS

I noticed the bullet holes along the door frame at 6:05 as you were entering, and my first thought was that there must have been a gun fight between the allies who overran this position and the German troops who were defending it. You were so right, this was worth waiting for, and amazing feat of construction, and so well concealed, and also a total waste of time and Money, as you say, the Allies just ignored that part of the occupied coastline. I would guess that the thin high vaulted corridor was the way to drop the torpedoes down to the storage area. Thank you for sharing this with us all. As an old fogey, I ask myself what I would have done if I had been a soldier in such a dangerous position. My answer now is far different than it would have been 50 years or so ago when I was young and gullible.

    I can’t help but think, some of these bunkers with our newer technologies could be converted into homes to rent out for the landowners! If I owned property with some of these bunkers, I would at least convert one of them into a home for myself!

    Great info on an unknown subject to me the torpedo installations are alot simpler than the gun batteries to build and less volnerable to air attack! very interesting

    What a place! Did you find an engineering area for generators and compressors? Am I correct in my thinking that they were pushed from the tubes by compressed air?

    • @WW2HistoryHunter
      @WW2HistoryHunter  Рік тому

      we do think we know where that was and i think it was compressed air that launched them. Thanks William.

    Thanks for the video HH and EE, this place is massive and very eerie. The best position for size and work load to be build, it was massive just for one torpedo launcher. I wonder what else went on here 🤔. Totally enjoyed the 2 episodes on this iconic place!!😎💥💥💥💥🇬🇧🇺🇦
