I've lived with a rectangle lawn and picture frame flowerbeds all my life. Seeing your garden and the beautiful landscapes in your tours has inspired us to make paths and beds everywhere with less and less grass! It's so exciting!
We have had several black Swallowtail caterpillars on our bronze fennel in the last two weeks. This year is our first time we planted it in our butterfly garden so I am glad you mentioned to keep an eye on it. (Oklahoma zone 7a)
Your videos are my favorite. They are so informative. I trust what you teach. I struggle with a lot of other channels because they are being paid by certain companies and that is the only plants they want to talk about. I know you work with southern living but you always talk about other plants as well.
I planted mint in a container and the little rascal somehow jumped the container. I THINK the roots went through the drainage hole in the bottom. It does keep the rabbits from destroy things plant near it but OH MY GOODNESS it’s ALL over the garden now. I was pulling it yesterday but I’m never ever going to get rid of it, there’s soooo many root’s everywhere! 🌸💚🙃 it was kind of funny, I don’t wear gardening gloves, the mint gave my hands a nice cooling sensation.🌸💚🙃
I was in N Carolina for about 2 hrs. a little over a week ago. Holy moly is your airport huge. This old lady had to get from one end to the other, thankfully my granddaughter and I had plenty of time. 🌸💚🙃
Good to see the spider web fatsia....I just purchased 5 to go along side a shady, moist side of my house. Was thinking I did not have enough (they are in 3-gallon pots now), but seeing yours is very reassuring that I have enough for the space they will go into. I am going to bring in some contrast/fill with Auntie Lou Cordeline so it does not look so sparse on that side. My landscape re-do is almost done.
I can't thank you enough for doing this. There are so many plants in your garden that I haven't seen or don't remember and this is a great way to restart my memory, lol.
What an absolutely charming & lovely space you guys have created! I remember when you moved into this house and this video clearly shows all the hard work you've done. When you said you guys are plant collectors, I totally understood your intention. Well done!
Putnam! I got an ingrid Bergman climbing rose sport in my backyard. Grew in a week and taller then me. Literally nothing but 5 leaves the entire branch. The heck do I do here!
Carex Everillo gives the same beautiful chartreuse color in full shade as it does in part shade/part sun. It grows a bit slower in the shade, but does eventually reach its full size. I LOVE it! (Sorry, Steph 😄🌸🐝)
Went on a garden tour (9 gardens) today here in Lexington KY and saw some outstanding gardens of every type. Yours could’ve easily been on the tour as it is of the highest caliber, IMO. 💚
So many nice niche spaces around the house. Everything looks great! I'm blessed with a tall porch & good size shade trees so I have to accommodate both views, ground level & from above. You're much more confident moving stuff around!
Yes it's amazing all the different types of growing environments in such a small area. I've been much more open to moving plant material around. I do give a lot of thought to placement before planting, but I've learned it's not a permanent decision and it can be fun to switch things around and edit where necessary
Love the detailed tours! So much inspiration. Love what the herbs add to the garden combinations. I tried to direct sow some fennel and it didn’t make it. Gonna try again under grow lights.
I love these your videos. Your garden is lovely. I love the mix of herbs growing with the flowers and veggies. Im trying to get the thyme to grow still so that I can food scape with it. I hope to continue with it. We have dill so far doing great but our herbs are just sprouting.
Pomegranate: mine died in the December freeze. My neighbor’s did too. The only plant I had that was damaged. I guess they aren’t well suited to zone 7a.
Hi Jim, thank you for these tours, I live seeing all the beauty in your garden. I bought bronze fennel in hopes to attract swallowtails to lay eggs but no luck. I didnt realize how big it would get. Its 5ft and gorgeous but I do have to pull seedlings. I got dragons blood sedum as ground cover, I hope it does kill my perrenials.😮, I hope my sedum will not be as aggressive as yours.
Love this series. I’ve tried and tried to grow the variegated form of dianella with no success. The heat and humidity here rots it every time I think I’ve got it going, and if that doesn’t get it, wet winters do. Love the delicate little bloom that it gets. But please don’t disparage my favorite little sedum! 😊
The good, the bad, the ugly? ? Not much ugly in your garden! Thanks for this series of videos of your garden…love the “collector’s garden”! By the way…love the drone footage perspective 👍
I actually think urban areas are more susceptible to deer browse. We live on acreage surrounded by deer but they don’t come near the house- plenty of stuff to eat in neighboring woods.
Definitely keep the sassafras in a pot… don’t plant in the ground! We had a sassafras tree we had to cut down 3 years ago and OH MY GOD we get THOUSANDS of shoots coming up from the roots every year from spring through fall. I pull them and pull them and more keep coming up!! Far worse than any other weed I deal with in my garden 😑😑😑

We had fennel when we lived in OK. The swallowtails loved it! There seem to be a lot of them out there.

I love how the patio looks a but like a peace sign. ❤☮️✌️🌺
Hey Jim. Thanks for the video. Every year I look forward to your June detailed garden tour. Looks great this year.

Thankfully I saw somewhere to put your container on pavers or wood to keep that from happening. BUT the lemon balm....
Fantastic drone footage, really helps to see your design plan from a bird’s eye perspective!
Time for me to go weed the garden after that 4 day rain event in charlotte. I expect all my plants to look fantastic by Wednesday

Yeah, this place just never stops growing. Thank you for watching!
Thank you Jim and Stephany. 🌸💚🙃
Love these detailed tours! Thanks for taking the time to do them!! ❤❤

My vitex is one of my favorite plants…super fast growing and such easy care!

Wow! You have beautiful gardens with so many interesting plants! I have a long way to go. Thanks for the great tour and the inspiration! 🌸
Such cool and interesting plants! I really enjoy this detailed garden tour and anxiously await each part! Such a beautiful garden!
Such interesting gardens and tour! A vacation in your own back yard! 👍

Thank you for s wonderful tour
Great video, keep them coming. Thx
Thank you for following along!
Hope you planted the palm a few inches higher than the surrounding soil, because it’s a moist corner.
I've searched and searched for one of the Southern Living Camellia's called "Christmas Carol" and cannot find it anywhere!
i discovered boxwwod basil this year - so cute and amazing aroma 😊 it’s in my ‘herb theme’ pot with corsican mint and kent beauty oregano
Would have been wonderful to insert pictures of them in flower

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🏆🌿🌳💚I LOOOOOVE these so much; thank you!!! 👏🏻👏🏻😊
WONDERFUL! Thank you Jim and Stephanie! It is great video! Q? Are the herbs perennial?

Jim, what do you think about the Hosta disease HVX?
You think you will ever get chickens?
🙋
…what zone are you in?
Name of the green sedum? Is it the John Creech?
It has a larger leaf than John Creech.
Looks like _Sedum kamtschaticum_ . VERY aggressive. You have been warned!
Jim,
What do you have growing in between the paver path?
Thanks
It's zoysia grass in the full sun
Jim + Stephany: Would you please find out what "Ram" signifies in her native language? I'm super curious; she's such a force of nature herself.
