  • An evoked potentials test measures the speed of nerve messages along sensory nerves to the brain and is sometimes used in the diagnosis of MS.
Your brain produces electrical current in response to information that comes in through your senses. This current can be detected on your scalp, using electrodes attached with sticky pads.
In this video Professor Coles takes us through what happens in a evoked potential tests, what different ones there are and how they work.

Thank you for explaining Evoked Potential Tests. I first had an MRI, however, my neurologist wanted to “measure” the damage, since the year before I had zero plaques. After one year, seven plaques had formed. I’ll never forget the EVP technician’s demeanor after my test; she was quite solemn.

I had a VEP a couple of days ago. It made me feel terrible. During it, it overwhelmed me and made me uncomfortable. I got agitated and hot. The two women conducting the test kept telling me to unclench my teeth and lower my shoulders. Look at the screen made me sick. Between tests (there were four) I had to close my eyes or look at the ground. The red dot became grey. I kept losing time during the test and I couldn’t focus. My vision was messed up all day. On my way home, (it was a long drive) I got pulled over for speeding, but he kept asking me questions insinuating I was drunk or high. And it was the middle of the day. I slept the rest of the day. Is this normal?

I can not find it anywhere, but it feels like I am the only one who finds Somatosensory EP excruciatingly painful. It says everywhere - it does not hurt or not supposed to be painful.
