Very nice run down on Datascan II. mice eating the knock sensor harness - a proper idiosyncrasy of the Australian motorist's life. For the readers, if you have an E51 with the VQ35 (V6), like we do, all you need is Datascan II and a VAG usb connector, and a Windows or Android laptop/notebook. Our otherwise very spry E51 suddenly threw an AFM fault and ran like absolute s--t (hard starting one day, next day bunny hopping on a hill and almost stalling). I got Datascan II just to check and erase faults after changing the AFM, which it did perfectly and simply, but was blown away by the capabilities of this software. I have paid a lot more for a lot less (EG the gear available for Land Rovers, etc). To be able to make such easy adjustments in such an elegant and straightforward package is a credit to the software maker and also to Nissan, who seem to have resisted the recent urge many makers have of closing their vehicles to owner servicing. The vehicles ECU's are relatively accessible and this software optimises this. When I needed software for the Nissan I did a deep internet search and in the end found software developed in Canberra, Australia - my home town (woohoo), which has no automotive industrial base. I guess we have Canberra's Summernats (and the thousands of burnouts it produces) to thank for this brilliant contribution to pluralising access to our machines. Thanks for this nice intro to DS2.
Subscribed for the simple fact I also own a er34 2001 gtt four door & e50 vq35 rider Elgrand :) awesome choice in vehicles buddy 👍 good video and hello from Scotland.
Well done mate and yes the diagnostics looks awesome I was wondering about the reliability of these cars and you have sold me on it. They look like great cars and well priced for what you get. Keep up the good work dude :-)
Gezass mate your a bloody legend, I just stumbled across your channel/this vid, I haven't bought my Elgrand yet, I wanted to find a scanner/program that would allow me to diagnose & see insider her first, Wanta Pearler thank you mate
WorldWide AU The elgrand is a great van, mine has never had anything i couldn't fix go wrong and its well over 150k on the clock now. I treat it like shit, its never undercover or much done on her at all. My elgrand has the same engine as a 350z nissan so it gets up hills etc, the best part if I have a bad back and the elreand is so good to me I can do really long trips with ease, when the r34 skyline would kill me in a few hours. The software in the clip is great but it does even more to other cars as it only uses one part of the software for the elgand. These things go by years so as a guess the datascan 2 program would do cars from 1996 to say 2004 (total guess to exact years) There is datascan 3 or that type of thing and its for newer cars, and nissan data scan would work on other cars not just nissans. I would guess that nissan datascan 2 would work for most 51s elgrands but i cant say for sure. It was like having a tuning shop in the driveway, I have only done the tune about 2 weeks ago and its going strong still even with a faulty rat eaten out knock sensor. The cleaning out codes part is what helped me out a lot and then the lean after that in the work section of it. The beast is loving it and so is my fuel bill.
It's not a 350z engine. It's the same FAMILY of engine but with quite a few differences like cams, intake and ecu. Quite a few kw down. It's more accurate to say it has a Maxima engine.
Great help ... thanks for the video My E50 engine heats up on idle with no leaks and with no mechanic around that know the reason why ... I wonder if this tool can be helpful to diagnose the heat issue with my car. I would really appreciate it If you can share any tip that can help me ... I love this car and want to be able to fix it.
That transistor is actually a 'resistor'. The earlier pre-facelift E50 uses the grey Consult 14pin connector, but your facelift model uses the OBD style connector, but that still uses the Consult protocol. At least this E50 is more reliable than the E51's, as the E51's have lots of issues.
after the warning there is no logical connection to screwing the computer by messing with the throttle body sensor? the issue i had is that nissan doesnt have locktight on the 6 throttle body disks inside the intake and they fell into the valves. the knock was caused by the screw smashing into the head...
Excellent. I have the same model and year. How did you tune the elgrand i.e what settings did you apply to run give it more power as Im after the same result. From what I can see, it can run diagnostics but I was after a tunning map to apply from the software. Thanks buddy.
PC Quack I cant tell you how helpful you have been I have a Rider 05 with a 2.5 eng ive bought the program and like you say it is bril I don't know if you will receive this comment or not but I have a prob with engine every now and then it will miss momentarily when driving and then come back as if nothing happened the program tells me its a camshaft sensor p0340 do you have any knowledge of this prob ? keep up the good work
Had a hell of a time installing the driver for the VAG on windows 7. Plugging the VAG in, you get a USB Serial 2.0 device appear in device manager, but every time you try to install the drivers, it says no suitable driver found for your device, even if you point to the driver directory. Frustrating. WIndows 10 seems to be able to go online and search and install successfully. Any tips for getting windows 7 to work?

Have to say, you had me chuckling away with your VAG(e) comment! Great informative video by the way! Thanks for posting.
13:23 - DTR means Data Transfer Recognition. its basically a confirmation data was sent and received.
Thanks for the information .... Yes the Nissan elgrand 50 great van mine have not let me down yet still running.
Mate thank you so much. I have got e51 . You just fed so much information. Good vids.
EG2003 Just ordered one. Utilising to check a bad cylinder, could be spark but mate, legend.
@@m0t1veOT Yep, you found it. The Audi VW is the correct one. The software that is separate looks dodgy at first but it is safe and works well.
Great information video, i have an E50 diesel 3,0 non start only crank would Datascan and vag usb connector be usable. any advice would be helpful,
Fantastic warning about throttle body thank you

Hi Alistair. I’ve just bought a lovely E51 & want to look after it. Can you recommend any specialist garages & parts suppliers? Jim from Glasgow.
