- Meet Ukraine's mobile tank repair unit.
Members of this Ukrainian army unit travel along the Donbas frontline in the country's east, responding to radio calls from battle groups requesting regular maintenance, a quick fix or breakdown recovery.
"We are like nomads - we move from one place to another," said 23-year-old Serhii, an armoured recovery vehicle driver and mechanic.

I wish you lived in Donetsk and saw those "heroes" robbing your house in 2013 while using political agenda as an excuse. There is a reason Donetsk militia is a thing, it takes a whole lot of that action to turn a coal miner into a soldier.

When I Served my Country, a few decades ago, My very first unit I was in was an armor battalion. Those Tread Heads....so much time in just plain day-to-day maintenance was incredible. Add combat, 😲, seriously WOW!
These guys are just incredible.They’ve done everything our chaps trained for in the British Army and then some. Having to do all of this whilst also in a combat zone and constantly adjusting to the realities of what needs to be done, versus what is simply trained to do. That is something we have lost a lot of the connection too. We can now learn from each other from this.👍🏼💪🏼

I seen REME fixing waggons under fire in Basra City... and a few Die fixing them inside Basra Palace from indirect fire.. this is nothing new, and disrespectful imo to the Actual British troops been there done that and are now training Ukrainian troops here in UK and before that in Ukraine on Op Orbital

Maintainers are absolutely critical to any modern military. They are unsung heroes. There seems to be a different attitude in Russian military, as if there were an endless supply of vehicles. Because of that attitude, many former Russian vehicles end up in the Ukrainian military, towed there by farm tractors, then repaired by the same maintainers. Slava Ukraine!

Supplies are essential for Artillery and Tanks. Someone keeps smoking in the Russian ammunition depots. There where seven dumps destroyed. The Ukrainians will first stop and then push back the Russian forces,when they are set for it and it is coming.

That’s part of British Army armoured regiment sub culture- the yellow handbag of beers. Are tank crews always carry a large supply!
We do something similar in the US Army. We call them Contact Teams and they support the infantry, armor and artillery units, together with those units' support troops, at or close to the maneuver units (battalions). Together with the supply, ammunition and medical Teams they share the hardships and risks of the combat units while lightly armed and usually unarmored (except armored recovery vehicles like the one shown). They sustain the battle, evacuate and treat casualties, push ammo forward, bring bodies back (yes, bodies often are sent back with empty ammo trucks, after all, the trucks have to go back anyway) and do all the other vital things nobody hears about. I was proud to lead them for 11 years of service before switching to Special Ops and doing another 17 years. God be with them; they will need his protection. Unsung heroes indeed!

These men have the toughest job in the lines. Men rely on them to save other units from being destroyed. The difference with Ukraine is they have the superior weapons of war now, in the guided 155mm artillery rounds. And this is not including the HIMAR missiles that the Russians are terrified of this system as in intercepted phone calls back home are showing.
They say you hear a woosh then destruction. Those who survived being anywhere near ammo reserve dumps are saying you hear it at point of impact, with no other warning it’s near silent is scaring them with its accuracy Russians don’t have.
They bomb indiscriminately as both barrels are worn out needing rifling again. A gun that’s using non guided shells with worn out in the barrels is useless for proper attacking!
An armor unit counts on the master gunners, maintenance and supply crews to stay in the fight. Take care of them and they'll take care of you. Logistics, logistics, logistics.
