I really liked doing flat decks, but there was days in the winter, that trying to pull frozen tarps, and then fold them, tested every part of my being!!
I truly love the up-front and personal experience of your daily trucking endeavors. I am not a trucker but thoroughly enjoy all of what you present with the trials and tribulations of servicing the American economy. I have also visited Metro Manila and Dipolog City in Mindanao and like Filipino culture. My heart is with you and your husband and continued success on the road with flat-bed trucking!
R&L: no touch freight and home real regular. Boring but paid exceptionally well. Flat bed for a much smaller company:not so much...... The two of you will adjust and thrive or not: all up to you. Look at Trucking With Schmidt channel. He's pulling dry reefer vans and looks to be happy and thriving.
You are right abut it! I never thought driving a van was such a vey easy job, no wonder a lot of kids wanted to be a "Van Driver" ! We are home Friday, Saturday and Sunday, well RL u are home a day and half and you are stock in a box and all other stuff I would not mention right now ( we know it was time to leave). We like what we do so far it is good for our health more physical activity thats exactly what we wanted. Thanks again!
I pulled flats, stepdecks and rgn trailers for 10 years it just isn't worth the added risk of being injured most of my dry van loads now days pay just as much as any flat bed load does now days sad but true....
Watch that load bar. I learned the hard way to tighten standing to the side. Nothing like a load bar between the legs or under the chin. Stay safe out there.

Hey guys flatbeds!! Looks like an old Robert Heath truck. Hopefully it works out for you and your better half. Try applying at Walmart they need drivers. You and your hubby could get on the same day out they don’t do teams just solos.
There's always pros and cons when it comes to trucking... flatbeds or more suitable for the taller drivers... and a lot more challenging for the smaller person of stature... it takes less effort for securements tarping and strapping... make load checkes every 2 hours retightening your straps with a cheater bar!
About front barrier/bulkhead; you can make one from a stack of four or eight 4x4 timber’s or dunnage, then chain the stack tight to the deck. One or two chains. Also, as you may know, secure the front freight with an xtra strap/chain(s). I did that type flatbed, now conastoga sliding tarp. Stay safe.
