Periphery is one of my favorites from the modern era of metal. Their music is almost entirely self-produced and engineered.
Periphery - Remain Indoors! Y’all need to get deep into Periphery, a lot of excellent music. Great musicians, phenomenal singer, excellent production and really clean.
You guys a re a breath of fresh air. I love the fact that you allow us to see what songs like this mean to you both as a couple.
Ah! Acid Rain is a good one! But, When the Water Breaks is a beast. At work at the moment but I look forward to watching this when I get home!
I had to come back and listen AGAIN to that Periphery tune with you guys! I don't think I've ever heard such a brutally gorgeous tune in my life!!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
You remind me of me and my wife interact, love it. You two are great.
LTE is awesome, I listen to that album at least once a week while at work. It gets the guys on the line moving when I play it for them.
Liquid Tension Experiment is one of the most fascinating bands I've ever listened to. Never get enough of their music.
I love the moment you had in the end there. You just earned yourselves a new subscriber.
And also, Periphery is my favorite band, that's how I found you. In case you were wondering.
I was having a bad day, then I watched this and instantly got put in a better mood. You guys are great, and also remind me of all the great music I need to go back and listen to!
Glad to see you guys enjoying awesome music, your reactions are gold!
I was waiting for this one. Love guys!!
Metal with a touch of Blues and a little Jazz. Love It!!!
Also, Tony Levin isn't playing a srict bass. It's called a Chapman Stick. Bottom six strings are traditional guitar tuning, top six strings are inverted bass tuning. It's optimized for tapping techniques, and hella fun to listen to.
Kel-n-Rich... Thank you for this Chanel...!!!
Thank you people for turning me on to such incredible virtuosity...
Rich I totally agree. There no other result that can happen but an eargasmic experience when your sandwiched between these two songs!
Periphery - Omega. 11 minutes of beauty.
#painintheask. Alter Bridge Blackbird live is great, it's basically ex members of Creed with a different lead singer Myles Kennedy. Two for One Creed My Own Prison Alter Bridge Blackbird. Ty Kel-Rich.
Periphery is such an amazing group that does so many things. I can’t wait for you guys to hear the heavy side of them. “Ragnarok” , “The Bad Thing”, or the new song “Blood Eagle” from their forthcoming album. “Garden in the Bones” is also another new release that is in the same ball as the two tracks you have reacted to.
I was listening liquid tension when i was young now im more into periphery like your video
Yup. Absolomb is a masterpiece.
That crazy guy on the bass is actually playing a Chapman stick. That is Tony Levin of Peter Gabriel/King Crimson fame!
He's the coolest looking guy I have ever seen on a stage.
Liquid Tension Experiment is soooo sick! I recommend reacting to every song they have :D Studio version of Acid Rain is mostly in 4/4, some 3/4 and 2/4, bpm is 144, but here they are doing a bit faster I think, Petrucci plays about 3 zillion notes in that solo :D
yeah, time signature is actually not that complex in this song
If she's a pianist you should have her listen to Liquid Tension Experiment's song Universal Mind, live from that same show. Jordan plays a 5+minute piano solo in the middle that is mind blowing
Both TLE albums are absolutely amazing
Petrucci's tone is always fucking perfect.
woo hooo LTE. You guys are fast becoming my fave reaction channel.
Helloween - Keeper of the Seven Keys
Hibria - Reset my Brain
Nekrogoblikon - Magic Spider
Peace Guys \m/ #painintheask
Acid Rain Awesome!!!! Greetings from Chile :)
Liquid tension experiment is basically dream theater with a different bassist and no vocalist. Badass band, its where they really show off their ability and talent.
SICK!!
From LTE2 Bootleg JP " We felt like we needed a sick opener for this record, went back and wrote Acid Rain in about 2 hours" yeah 2 HOURS...
Periphery - Garden of the Bones. It just came out and it’s incredible
#Periphery #Garden in the Bones
PLEASE MORE PERIPHERY!!! Their new album JUST released, make sure to check it out!
#painintheask
Hey, it'd be cool for you guys to check out two artists, one you already know!
Plini - Cascade
Intervals - Epiphany
Great reaction by the way!
Hell yeah. How about anything from plini’s sunhead ep? Flaneur and sunhead as well as kind are all great imo
LTE = John Petrucci, Mike Portnoy (both of Dream Theater), Jordan Rudess (at the time the album was made he wasn't in DT yet, but it was seen as an informal audition to re-extend the invitation to him as he had declined an earlier offer), and Tony Levin, genuine monster of the bass.
I think Absolomb is my favorite song by them! That start is killer !
Also, since you are a fan of Mike Portnoy, he sat in studio for Avenged Sevenfold's album 'Nightmare,' after the passing of their original drummer, Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan. He was also the drummer on the first album released by Adrenaline Mob.
Jake Bowen is the lead guitarist for Periphery and is John Petrucci’s nephew.
Haken--Falling Back to Earth. Just began watching, so forgive if I've missed any you've already covered. I think you'll love it!
#painintheask this above
I was privileged enough to see LTE live at the Roxy in Hollywood circa. 1998. Hoping\praying for that they're all able to reunite for a new disc.
LTE - When The Water Breaks from the same concert! #painintheask
The Piper Never Dies - Edguy
Absolomb crushes!!!
Loved the reaction. You two might enjoy Mile Zero, or Racecar by Periphery.
When the water breaks is so much better ¡¡¡¡¡ COME ON
Pain of Salvation - "On a Tuesday" or "The passing light of day" Awesome prog from Sweden :)
Wooo hoo finally!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111111
Every now and then would be good to do a 2-fer that compares original and cover songs together. Some really good and really odd choices out there. For instance, Children of Bodom is known to take the pop route. They did a cover of Britney Spears' "...Oops, I Did It Again" that is a must listen.
MetaliTransport GREAT idea! Thank you, we will totally do that!!!! Absolutely awesome suggestion, thank you so much!
I did some digging and found out that Liquid Tension band members met in April of this year to talk about possible reunion and tour!! I'll stay on top of this and let you know for sure.
this comment aged like wine
Those first two songs that you guys did from periphery are from their latest album P3 Select Difficulty. They are actually about to release a new album on April 5th which I'm so stoked for. And just so you guys know those songs that you just did are on the lighter side of periphery, periphery can be really heavy and chaotic sounding. The majority of periphery's songs have harsh vocals in them, so be prepared for it in the forthcoming reactions. It's probably best to do a song with a good mix of clean and harsh vocals like Pale Aura, The Way The News Goes, or Luck As A Constant next. These guys are one of the pioneers of djent that took Meshuggah's sound and made it their own, though they like to just consider themselves progressive metal.
Popabuddy1 oh thank you SO much for that great info and the ears up! We are trying to break my delicate ears gently. It is getting a little easier to listen to it each time so thank so much for this. 🤟🏼🦄💥💫🌈🎸🎶👂🏼
@@kelligafter502 No problem!
Tony Levin with the Chapman Stick! Dude is a beast.
John Petrucci's nephew(Jake Bowen) is one of the 3 guitarists in the band. All 3 have pretty much equal say in what gets written from what I know. Jake and and the guy who started the band(Misha Mansoor) met on a Dream Theater bulletin board.
This song is actually super old. It was released on Soundclick and UA-cam as an instrumental by Misha Mansoor(Going by the moniker of "Bulb") years ago so he pretty much wrote this song himself...you can still easily find it actually on UA-cam...along with the many, many, many other demos...thats why it has such a weird name...Misha just named his demos weird shit and they just didnt change the name of the songs regardless of what the subject matter became, haha....but it was re-worked for the bands 4th album in 2016. I actually think the lead singer Spencer Sotelo dug out this old demo and put vocals on it and sent it to the rest of the band and it went from there....Each Periphery album has a few of those stray demos work their way into the album. The first album is nothing but that.
I like the two-fers
#painintheask
Having someone to share and enjoy music with...it might sound small, but that's one of the greatest accomplishments that anyone can aspire to. I love to watch you guys. Keep it up...and don't worry about time signature with this guys...it's like solving algebra at this point. If you are want some more prog metal, go with Protest the Hero - Plato's Tripartite (specially with lyrics), Circus Maximum - Burn After Reading (f ing amazing) or Arch Echo - Color Wheel (beautiful)
I think it’s mostly 4/4 with some 3/4 and 5/8 as well
#painintheask also #TwoFer
Igorrr - (Tout Petit Moineau)
Corpo-Mente - (Dorma)
These two projects share vocalist Laure Le Prunenec and composer Gautier Serre. There are also a few more related projects with these two but i don't think you're ready for those yet, mwahaha haha ha!
At this very concert, these guys do a breathtaking cover of George Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue. It's amazing, beautiful, and just absolutely bonkers!! I hope you can react to this one as well.
Alan Alanis wow You dropped the G Bomb..... Gershwin.... outstanding!
@@kelligafter502 Please! Please! React to this one soon!! Thanks!!
Alan Alanis Lolol yes! You know what to buddy... #paininthesack it....!!!!
This song is from Periphery III, Periphery's most recent album (before Periphery IV comes out), however their greatest achievement to me is absolutely Juggernaut, their double album, it's a masterpiece, Psychosphere is fantastic from that!
#painintheask
I was at that show! You did a two fer before when you did S2N and Pale Blue Dot back in your first week of reactions.
Oh crap...right! It was our First video so long ago...10 days...so odd. Thanks for the correction. We will just let it ride. Good catch. Thanks for being with us from the beginning!!!!! Big Love @unquiltom. Later!!!
unquiltom wow! At that show!!!! WOW!!!!
Yes!!! Good for you, you have those smarty pants on again, don’t you!
You guys gotta check out Reptile off of Peripherys new album, it's 17 minutes of melody and mayhem haha
Ya'll need to check out some Leprous.
Do Slave or The Flood from Live at Rockefeller Music Center
Ulises Hernandez "contaminate me" when they're ready
Liquid Tension Experiment - When The Water Breaks!!!
Pain of salvation - iter impius live version
John Smith the Ending Themes live show would be a good one too.
Very good song indeed! I'll usually preface things to get atmospheric, raw and darker, even in such progressive and technical songs. Plus I actually appreciate it more when the shading/guitar wenkery are not too prolonged. But this is an awesome pick. Yes, I can see why it's rock metal. A lot of the progressive parts, are pure rock by itself. Seeing that the band is not active too much nowadays, I hope that they'll get back to form someday.
Plini- pastures
If you want some more Mike Portnoy, I highly recommend OSI - Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun (Pink Floyd cover). Some of his best drumming. Kevin Moore, Dream Theater's original keyboardist does the vocals too. Really cool song. If your schedule is too full though, I can use my birthday request on it next month 😁
Alright now that you guys experienced the more melodic/beautiful side of Periphery it's time to get into the more awesome side of them. The trilogy is where it's at if you want the full experience. Muramasa, Ragnarok, and Masamune are the three songs you should listen to back to back. I promise you will look at Periphery in a whole new light, enjoy!

Another act you might look for that's just as good as this is Portnoy Sheehan MacAlpine Sherinian. They even do this same song, but all I could find live looked like camera phone versions so the sound isn't as good as it could be so I didn't suggest it. Tony MacAlpine, the guitarist, is a fairly good friend of mine. Not that we hang out or anything, but I've seen him so many times at a local place called the Baked Potato that I've gotten to know him quite well, as there is no backstage. It's a tiny place and between sets you can hang out with the musicians at the bar or outside in the back. Also, Derrick Sherinian used to be the keyboard player for Dream Theater. Billy Sheehan is a well known bass player in those circles, and of course you already know Mike Portnoy.
God damn, it’s my firm belief that Mike Portnoy might be one of the greatest rock drummers in history.
His accenting is just unbelievable. He sneaks in these little notes here and there. One of my favorites is when he uses his left hand to hit the hi hat just after he hits the snare. It’s so small you might miss it when he does it. But when you notice it, you hear it everywhere. And you realize how much one tiny little accent can change a song.
If you're using OBS to capture I know a fix for the sync issue as I was having the same problem. Click the gear icon in the mixer section, then properties, then uncheck "use device timestamps". If you aren't using OBS just ignore this.
We will be contacting you later with specific questions. We are missing something big here in terms of the tech.
#painintheask Periphery Stranger Things pretty please!!! I absolutely love the meaning behind your channel and why you do it. You guys are very entertaining and I dont usually expand my music taste too much but you guys have helped open some new paths for me I am greatful for. Keep up the great work!!!
I can't praise ya'lls reactions enough! Periphery is so damn good, I would love to see you two react to #Periphery - Erised or #Periphery Stranger Things off of Juggernaut Omega. Cheers!!
#PainInTheAsk ......DIMMU BORGIR -Gateways (LIVE -FORCES OF THE NORTHERN NIGHTS)...ILL BE WAITING RICH N KEL ..
#metalchicpic
You should consider James Labrie's Solo albums. He has an Italian Guitarist named Marco Sfogli who is sick. "Unraveling" is such a melodic song you'd really like. OR you could go for his 2nd Solo album called Mullmuzzller2 and a song called Confronting the Devil - when I first heard it I thought IT WAS DT. James is so good.
You gotta do periphery satellites it will fucking change you guys the song is definitely written for singer to show his range and his range is quite amazing
That LTE tune is a perfect example of why John Petrucci should be regarded as one of the best guitarists of all time and I'm sad he's not mentioned more
Such a killer Periphery track. Check out Garden in the bones
Woohoo. That is all.
Please do anything from The Human Abstract. Those dudes were incredible.
Acid Rain by Flames, please!
Well, Periphery have done a lot of different things so far, but from what I'm seeing in your reactions, I think that it's the vocals that get you the most, so I would suggest Stranger Things because it has EVERYTHING you could wish for and more.
Normal bpm is 145 and petrucci solo section reaches almost 300 bpm or so
Bpm during the solo is roughly around 140-150 also. But bpm doesn't tell anything how fast he is playing and he sure is playing fast there :). Note duration combined with the tempo is what tells how fast someone is playing.
Yeah basically is in that range but when he enters god mode it reaches 300 near the end of the solo😂😂
#painintheask. Ayreon - The day that the world breaks down
Please listen to John Butler - Ocean (Studio Version)!
Plini- pastures #painintheask
You have Mr. X's hat from Resident Evil 2 Remake xD

The Force is strong with you - patience, young Jedi.
Kelli Gafter "young Jedi" Wait till you hear how old I am when my birthday rolls around on the 23rd! LOL! I'm an school headbanger.
LTE "kindred spirits" "biaxident"
When the water breaks is much better! You can react to Hollow years- Dream Theater live at budokan! The Beat guitar solo ever!
Yes, that's three fifth of Dream Theater plus another moustache.
Tony Levin.................... or as i like to call him .........."the Praying Mantis of Rock" :D
Still waiting for Dream Theater's Illumination Theory Live at Boston Opera House 😁
Why don't you go old school where a lot of these current prog bands got some of their shredding from? #painintheask
Al Di Meola - Suite - Golden Dawn The features the amazing bass playing of Jaco Pastorius, drumming of Lenny White and Keyboards and Barry Miles on keys... and of course, Al Di Meola.
Please react to The Great Escape by Seventh Wonder!
⭐️Really hoping “SNUFF” by SLIPKNOT gets reacted to, it’s absolutely incredible, official video here ua-cam.com/video/LXEKuttVRIo/v-deo.html
So behind
