  • Testing and reviewing a great value pellet brand againt the industry standards, that cost twice as much!
    shooting in incredibly windy conditions to really test their downrange performance.
    is it the fx? jsb? AirArms? qys? or something else?

    Great video Ty. Just getting back into airguns at 50+ yrs old lol - bought a tin of AA FD - the quality, bent-skirts (50 odd pellets were binned) and swarf in it - made me try a tin of RWS Super Fields, £7.50, no swarf, no bent-up pellets all clean looking - and at my back-garden distance of less than 30 yards - getting 10p groups with a pcp carbine, sitting on a chair, holding the rifle, no rest or bench. These will be my go-to pellet now 👍🏻

    I've tried both RWS superfield & Meisterkugeln flat heads indoors at 25 yds in a FWB 800 X 12ftlb conversion. For me the super Fields were pretty bad but the similar priced flat heads were very good. With a barrel tuner I was getting multiple 5th round groups of 9 to 10 mm edge to edge making a center-to-center group of ≈ 5-5.5mm. I've had better groups out of H&N Baracuda FT but they're double the price.
    What I've learnt from my testing is that barrel tuners absolutely make a significant difference and every gun should have one.

    Back in the day I used to use superdomes for hunting because they deformed so well compared to accupells but when the aa fields came out I tried them and they grouped brilliantly in comparison.
    In all the tins I bought though probably half of them had badly damaged skirts so I gave up on them.

    The problem with RWS is they're inconsistent, ive put 10 through one pellet hole at 25m with my s400 then one will be an inch off, with no explanation. I might try and size and weigh a few to see if it makes a difference. For me the H&N are far better and in the middle price bracket. Often out performing JSB and AA. They group under a 1" at 50m which is pretty good for the money. Also a snugg fit in my springers with them being 5.53

      Hi mate, ive never had them random unexplainable flyers with the rws myself, but I can certainly see it a possibility. Even with all the expensive brands there's always that one that might spoil a group or skew off on the way to an hft target. I'll definitely doing some vids on the h&n down the line as I've had some great results with a few of the range 😉

    Great video, I've been getting some exceptional groups with Norma Golden Trophy Heavy in 177, bit dearer than the Superfields but not by much, worth a try. I was given a tin by a RFD as the recommendation for the pcp I'd bought and he wasn't wrong. Definitely worth a try.

    • @tillysgunstocks
      @tillysgunstocks  Рік тому +1

      Hi paul the norma are on the list to try out, as are the new superfield extra heavy.they are only 10gn so not super heavy but for sub12 .177 might be worth a go. They are 9quid for 500. Are the norma smaller tins though?

    • @TheWardy72
      @TheWardy72 Рік тому

      @@tillysgunstocks the Norma's come in a standard tin of 500, I ordered a second tin from ihunter. They are are 9.1 grain, so not really heavy compared to others like the QYS. There aren't many pellets around that weight that I can find as a comparator. My pcp is sub 12 and just loves them. I believe they are actually made by the RWS guys but they seem to be a unique shape and weight, not just a rebadge.

    Our only public shooting range here on Oahu, Hawaii, had to close thanks to lack of staff. It's city operated and was always a little short of staffing. They're going to be closed for the next two months for some (likely a lot) of overdue maintenance (the rifle berms are in sad shape, causing a ricochet that busted a car windshield a half mile away), so it's not too bad.
    Being an apartment denizen, I'm back to practicing in the bedroom to kitchen range (just barely 10m) with my springers.
    At least it's cheaper than $50 for 425 rounds of 22LR!

    RWS 8.3 gr Superdomes shoot best in my Ruger and Beeman guns at 600 and 998 fps. A great quality pellet, low price. No fliers. Got tired of JSBs 20 percent fliers. I get 0.3" groups at 30 meters, 998 fps. 45 yard kill shots are normal with no real holdover. Like a half inch over center of target? When hunting I wait for calm air. The field line you tested may be better for farther shots. RWS for pesting, CPHP for close range 6 fpe, or fun plinking. CHEAP fun. Thanks for a great video.

      Another interesting point; even with my cheap Ruger Explorer air gun, the RWS Superdomes group THREE TIMES more accurately with no fliers than Crosman Hollowpoints. At 17 yards. Same goes for my Beeman Magnum (Mantis) at 30 meters. I think I see a pattern here...

    Excellent video. It looks like you are primarily a .177 man but I would like to see some videos like this one for us .22 users.
    It would be valuable for hunters especially who use .22.
    The RWS Supers look good but not sure how they would perform in a .22 springer with them being over 15 grains, reasonably weighty fellows. Keep up the good work 👍

      @tillysgunstocks  Рік тому

      Hiya, yes I swapped to .177 almost exclusively about 10 years ago now. But I do have a number of .22 prototype rifles here, that as soon as I'm allowed to show off will do some testing on film
      Not sure how my limited budget for the channel (zero) will cope with the cost of .22 😆

      @@Zillawill My Webley springers all seem to like the new Wasps apart from the Longbow, which has a tighter breech than the others.
      I shoot out to 30yds (25yd zero) & all the guns will shoot a 5p group at 25.
      I have tried FTT & they are OK but not as good as the Wasps in my Webleys which initially surprised me.
      Of course my Webleys are older guns so I'm not asking for the .22 comparison for the older springers. I'm just interested to see the results in the same way we have seen the 177 comparisons.

      Think majority of people use 177 now you can do it all with 177 as apose to the limitations of a 22 in sub 12 that is

    • @50caliber29
      @50caliber29 7 місяців тому

      @@tillysgunstocks obviously you have to do the best for your channel & you are primarily a 177 pcp user. Just the odd 22 video would be good & maybe a manufacturer would send you a 22 to test. For example the TX200 ultimate sporter would fit your channel feel nicely.
      @silverback. I think 22 is a lot more popular than you realise. In fact I believe that historically 22 outsold 177 consistently, maybe that has changed but I doubt it.

    Excellent vid .. Mrs tried some RWS Superfields for the first time a few weeks back , as at the range she only duz the spinners / knockdown reset stuff , and the occational target work , these suit her needs superbly , hitting 20mm / 15mm & 10mm spinners ect out to 50mtrs ( obviously not every time @ longer ranges ) and at £7.50 a tin ( she bought 2 ) next pay day at the end of the month , its off to the RFD and get a sleeve , maybe two sleeves with a 10% discount .. great vid showing you dont have to spend a vast amount to get reasonable results .. I always shout the mrs when you stick a vid up ( she like airgun vids of every type ) I say " MAX " has got a new vid up .. and hen she knows who im referring too ..
    Max as in Max Biaggi , the ex MotoGp rider .. your the spitting image of him ( as he was about 10 yrs ago , he packed in racing then ) ..
    QYS 9.56 probably rule the roost now .. my local RFD told me they outsell JSB now .. yet a few years ago , the 8.48grn came on the market they were awful in most rifles , and again , according to my RFD dont sell well to this day ... they also make an 8.95grn ( medium on the tin ) which are excellent also , strange thing is , after I bought my two tins , I aint seen any for sale anywhere .. I must have the only two tins in existence ... and then there's the 13grn .. especially for garden squizzers @ 20mtrs ( bedroom to bird feeder ) its curtains every time , leaves a bit of a mess though . Also group well ( sub 12 ) out to 30mtrs ...
    Keep up the good work , enjoying yer vids a lot ..

    I found a tin of these in the cupboard and tried them in my HW100’s and Red Wolf’s ( I have 2 x HW100 & 2 RW ) and I was pleasantly surprised. At under £8 ( currently ) as you say they are ok at shorter ranges ( less than 30 yards ) and plinking. Bought a few sleeves for exactly these situations.

      I'm always surprised by the superfields, they are very consistent at the closer ranges and I never get them random unexplainable flyers you often get with other mid range brands.certainly gives a bit more confidence when using them.
      I've got some of the first batch of the super heavy (10grain) versions on the way. I'm looking forward to testing them out. I think the extra mass may well help push them out to further ranges accurately.
      I'll be sure to film it as I've not seen anything on UA-cam about them yet.

    I did just go upt and buy a few random tins, jsb hades , jsb diablo heavy, qys domed , powa pell, rws super dome. Luckily all shoot comfortably well inside a 1p group with a full magazine out of a rotex rm8, obviously different poi but happy withh performance of them all, rws are probably the worst out of all of them but by such a small amount they will probably be my go to pellet considering the use and cost saving.

    If the pellets are spinning clockwise (most barrels are right twist), then wind blowing from the right likely will lift and go left, and wind blowing from the left will likely drop and go right, as the spin reacts against the wind. Mind you with 'shuttlecock' pellets they don't even need to spin to fly straight, only slugs need it for stability.

    IMHO yes RWS make an excellent pellet FOR MY RIFLES! Superfield in my guns match AA diabolo over any distance. The weight is the same but the RWS are very slightly longer making them a little more susceptible to wind drift. Super H Point are a superb hunting pellet to alo g with RWS Hobby for paper punching.
    The issue I have with your videos is that your testing is done with one rifle which means......the results are only valid for your rifle. This is why I emphasize that RWS are superb IN MY GUNS.....BSA Ultras x3n .177/.22 unregulated, Air Arms S400 .22, Gunpower Shadow 2 .177 (now regulated), 4x various QB78/79 HPA regulated and Theoben Evolution.177.
    I would also have waited for a less windy day. Your Burgee flag was all over the place in wind strength and direction especially when shooting the RWS super fields which casts some doubt on the results being 100% valid. I always do my comparison tests at the indoor range which is brilliant; up to 75 yards and I use three different rifles. Best all rounders are RWS Superfield which perform as well as AA Field but do chrono less powerful, hence the drop you experienced. The clincher has to be the price when both pellets are equal on performance. Plus less distorted pellets when you open a new tin...which really bugs me with Air Arms.
