I make these Keto brownies twice a month. For awhile now I have integrated a low carb/keto lifestyle. I do add a few walnuts and Lilly’s chocolate pieces for added flavor. Once cooked I divide individual pieces to freezer bags and place in the freezer as a treat when wanted. It feels good to know you are not totally depriving yourself of some pleasantries. They are delicious.
You're like a one-man America's Test Kitchen, Keto Edition! 😁 This was a fantastic idea! Would love to see more of what you think about ready-made low-carb products, and possible ideas on how to improve them. Big thumbs up! 👍🌹
Sorry folks, but if you are going through the tough process of going, and staying ketogenic, and still eating processed and premade junk food, you are just not gonna make it.
Mahalo, Dennis, for testing this Keto box mix for us. I've successfully tried this mix several times, adding chopped nuts, putting choc chips on top, and baking in mini cupcake pan w/ less time (using toothpick to check doneness). They are a great little snack (1 Tbsp of batter each) esp when presented on a plate in the middle of a big dollop of whipped Kara coconut cream. Yum! Love your channel and your intrepidness!
Love the fails!😂 To increase the chocolate flavor add 2teaspoons to 1 tablespoon of instant espresso powder to the cold water. For more fudgey brownies undercook them 2-3 minutes bc they cont cooking as they cool. These 2 tips are the secrets I learned over the years.
'Keto Upgrade' has a YT channel that deserves more viewers; she's a pastry chef who doesn't like almonds so her recipes are different than the usual. Good to see you back Dennis.

You’re the best! I’ve been doing Keto/ low carb for the last several months and I’m always looking for recipes that are actually good! You’re a God send in that regard. I made your cheddar biscuit recipe last night and it was amazing! Thank you for all your hard work and dedication. I can not imagine this is easy at all!
First, great throwback to the factoids from Good Eats! Second, I also laughed at Fail #3. Sorry... Finally, have you tried using the egg shell to scoop out any egg shell bits which fall in? I find it tends to almost work like an egg shell magnet, and makes getting a hold of the bits much easier.
YES! I was going to tell him the same thing about the egg shells. The oils in our fingers actually push the shell away and using the shell as a scoop works perfect. I think we all had that resounding guffaw when the hot dish fell into the bowl. We've all done it.

Yeah - corn syrup is great for chewiness, but as you said, it would make it not low-carb. Yukon can be used as well, but it too is high in carbs, so it'd have to be very minor
I've been using that mix for months and it truly lacks something. I'm gluten intolerant and have been using krusties gluten free brownie mix and it's the best tasting brownies I've ever eaten. The issue is I eat a low carb diet, around 12 carbs per day and even a small brownie is too high in carbs. I normally use three eggs, melted butter for the fat, chopped pecans and a bit of water to either mix. I've thought about mixing the two to see if I can get a better tasting low carb brownie but haven't tried yet. I think it's just the artificial sweetner that throws the taste way off on the keto mix. If you don't eat any other keto sweets it's likely acceptable but after 30 years of eating a low carb diet I want the few sweets I eat to taste worth the carbs. I use a silicone 9x13 pan to cook in and it works nicely even with the keto small mix size. You definitely don't want to overcook them. When cool I flip them over on a large cutting board and slice into serving size pieces, put in freezer bags and freeze since I normally eat one per night. I do like a more cake like brownie rather than a fudge like one. I enjoyed your video and hope at some point you'll try again to make the keto mix more edible or at least a bit better tasting.
Oooooh, I LOVED watching this process!! And you know I'm not cooking unless there's multiple fails -- you missed counting the second bowl falling, btw. So which version would you make again . . . or will there be a perfected homemade version incoming?
Seems like it would work well for a holiday/special treat with coffee or whatever. Given my own innate bitterness the lack of sweetness seems like a bonus 🙂 I had no idea this existed, so thanks!
I'm curious if you cut the butter amount in half, use plain yogurt for the rest if that choice would make it taste better because you're not completely removing that flavor. Great video by the way
I am generally very skeptical of any pre-packaged mixes but this seems a worthwhile mix to try. Certainly would go well with that keto vanilla ice cream.
I did a 9x9, added 1/4c walnuts, 2tsp of monk/erythritol and 1/4c of chips. I think next time I'll use coconut oil and cocoa powder. If you like them cakey, add another egg?
I like the Greek yogurt alternative. It's hilariously calorie-friendly compared to butter. I'll gladly sacrifice texture optimization in favor of actually fitting it into my diet.
I've been making a ton of low cal deserts. Apple sauce is apparently a low cal replacement for butter. Apparently it does something to mimick the baking properties of butter. Perhaps give that a try?
It's something Ive played with in the past, but have avoided - even unsweetened apple sauce can have a decently amount of carbs - which would be fine for low-carb, but considering it's a Keto mix, I opted to go for the more Keto friendly options!
Same experiment but with swerve brand please. I'm not sure which way I should make the Dunkin Hines ones now. Ive made them once and didnt follow directions. I did the add a can of pumpkin hack. They were ok. I did end up eating them all 🙍 for science

Miss you...glad your back!😊❤>>>>>>>😂
Missed you Dennis! Your right about the mix, but it does the trick on the sweet tooth when you're desperate.
Thank you ❤️
Seems like it would work well for a holiday/special treat with coffee or whatever. Given my own innate bitterness the lack of sweetness seems like a bonus 🙂 I had no idea this existed, so thanks!
Youll have to try it and let me know!
Great job! I tried the Birch paleo one, and it was horrible to say the least.😩
Dennis I had NO idea you had a website, a FB page or a NEWSLETTER! 🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️ Anyway I’m all signed up NOW!
Yup. Website has most of the recipes with printable recipe cards and nutrition info!
I bought these recently and was wondering what I should do to doctor them up. I'm going to experiment.
Let me know if you come up with something good!
Now, I want brownies! 😋
I'm always afraid of those sweetners because of the stomach issues they can cause ☹
Usually in moderation it wont cause issues - but it really depends on the person!
I substitute the water for heavy cream.
I'm curious if you cut the butter amount in half, use plain yogurt for the rest if that choice would make it taste better because you're not completely removing that flavor. Great video by the way
The flavor wasnt so much the issue - I was aiming for something that was fudgier and more chewy!
You are so handsome! Thanks for the laughs.
Haha thanks!
I am generally very skeptical of any pre-packaged mixes but this seems a worthwhile mix to try. Certainly would go well with that keto vanilla ice cream.
If you try it, you'll have to let me know your thoughts!
I would’ve tried a ganache over the top after baking it. Maybe would’ve added that extra chocolate and texture you were looking for.
I wanted to do that, and try other things like adding peanut butter. BUT that would negate the purpose of a premade mixture: time!
I did a 9x9, added 1/4c walnuts, 2tsp of monk/erythritol and 1/4c of chips. I think next time I'll use coconut oil and cocoa powder. If you like them cakey, add another egg?
If you want fudgier brownies, you have to add fat. If you want cakey, need to add more flour (or flour substitutes)!
I like the Greek yogurt alternative. It's hilariously calorie-friendly compared to butter. I'll gladly sacrifice texture optimization in favor of actually fitting it into my diet.
Agreed!
*Brownies all day long* 🤤
Yessss
They look good. I might try them
If you do, let me know what you think!
I agree you could make your own but maybe just try adding more cocoa powder which has no carbs virtually...
💋🧚🏻♀️❤️🇺🇸
Asding cocoa wouldnt make it fudgier. It probably dry it out more, actually. Youd have to add some extra sugar as well to negative the bitterness!
It may not be better but it might be quicker and sometimes that’s what we need.
Yup!
Using salted butter, adding a little more salt, walnuts and vanilla made a huge difference for me.
A little instant coffee or fresh coffee would make it better as well!
The pre chicken was pretty funny.
😂😂😂
Ima fan of Cakey brownies. V4 is a win for me
Youll have to try it and let me know what you think!
very entertaining, chef
Thanks
What a great 👍 video, including all bloopers and/or fails.!
Thank you very much.
Personally I do prefer brownies moist/soft/chewy type.
The chewy edges are my jam
@@BlackTieKitchen Thank you very much for your time and attention.
and we can all tell ..judging by your waistline 😆 loved that you included the fails! 😂
😂😂😂
Try adding heavy whipping cream instead of water (zero carbs) and an extra egg. 🌷
Sure, but that'd turn them into 800 calorie servings lol
@@BlackTieKitchen Oh… I was counting carbs not calories.🌷
OMG, thanks for variations. I love to add moisture to my baked goods with low salt cottage cheese. What did you do with 36 brownies?
Oh, I begrudgingly ate them. The first 3 were great. The remaining 33+ were not lol
Freezing brownies usually works well and they don't need much time to defrost (or any time at all if you're motivated enough).
Same experiment but with swerve brand please.
I'm not sure which way I should make the Dunkin Hines ones now. Ive made them once and didnt follow directions. I did the add a can of pumpkin hack. They were ok. I did end up eating them all 🙍 for science
For science! Ive seen the swerve version, but havent picked it up yet to try!
For "regular" brownies, it says add one less egg for fudgy brownies....have 2 eggs for cakey.....
