He proves that he cares more about people than the money. For a wealthy person in this society that is uncommon, which also shows that he has chosen his own path rather thab go along with what the others in his class are doing. That is why she likes him at the end.
The question, though, is, did he give her the horse because he thought she was beautiful or because she was going to give it to someone who truly needed it? The scene does not make that clear. If he gives the horse to her because she is beautiful, then he is just trading one commodity for another. And that makes him still just a spoiled rich man; and not a class traitor.
