  • This video showcases 4 API scripts that can be used to speed up combat when running groups of monsters. Note this functionality is only available for Pro subscribers.
    Below is the list of scripts used in this video, where they can be found, and additional documentation on each script. If you're not familiar with how to install scripts, check out this video • How to Install Roll20 ... .
    Token Name Number - Available in Roll20 API Script Library - Forum post - app.roll20.net/forum/post/127...
    Group Init - Available in Roll20 API Script Library - Additional Documentation - wiki.roll20.net/Script:Group_...
    GroupCheck - Available in Roll20 API Script Library - Forum post app.roll20.net/forum/post/363...
    Apply damage - Code here - gist.github.com/joesinghaus/9... - Forum post - app.roll20.net/forum/post/363...
    Commands Used in Video:
    The syntax for TokenNameNumber is:
    %%NUMBERED%%
    Group Init Configuration commands
    !group-init --del-group 1
    !group-init --add-group --Bare initiative_bonus|current
    !group-init --add-group --Bare npcd_dex_mod|current
    Some folks have said that these commands work better for them, so if you find your initiative bonuses are way too high, try these instead:
    !group-init --del-group 1
    !group-init --add-group --Bare initiative_bonus|current
    !group-init --add-group --Bare npcd_dexterity_mod|current
    To Run Group Init, select a group of tokens, and then use this command (or make it a macro)
    !group-init
    To make a Dexterity save with GroupCheck, select a group of tokens and enter this command:
    !group-check --Dexterity Save
    The code I ran to use GroupCheck and ApplyDamage
    !group-check {{
    --?{Save|Dexterity|Constitution|Wisdom} Save
    --process
    --subheader vs DC ?{DC}
    --button ApplyDamage !apply-damage
    ~dmg [[?{Damage}]]
    ~type ?{Damage on Save|Half,half|None,none}
    ~DC ?{DC}
    ~saves RESULTS(,)
    ~ids IDS(,)
    }}

      Pretty much true. I had been gifted two months of Pro by a player... and I thought I would test out dynamic lighting.. started looking for API suggestions came across these amazing tutorials and have committed myself to PRO. Started a Castles& Crusades campaign and also debating about a Hackmaster one with so many of these helpers, it may become easier to run on Roll20 than at FLGS. Thanks MILLIONS!

    Amazing and easy to implement.
    Even though I ran into a minor issue (forgot to pull the ApplyDamage from GitHub and make it as an additional script, and some minor alteration to use bar 3 instead of 1), I was able to find the answers to get it fixed right here in the comment sections because of both Nick Olivo and some knowledgeable commenters pointing it out.
    Great video, Subscribed and reviewing past videos (and excited for more to come)!

    Hi Nick - Thanks for these tips.
    I am using all of them in my current campaign, which has currently looped into 'White Plume Mountain'.
    Managing combat for larger groups has become so much easier.
    The integration of the GroupDamage script is a bit confusing for the uninitiated (me). Using the 'Raw' version did the trick.
    Many thanks. I will continue to follow your good work.

    Fantastic video, I have recommended your Roll20 series to many Roll20 users. I am using this without a problem. But I would like it accessible to my players who have a lot of conjure spells. For instance the Druid player in my party. He summons say 16 Wolves. Using this would be perfect for AoE spells for. So as a player he can of course drag and drop the creatures and have them numbered. Can use the group check, but when it comes to applying damage. It kicks out an error. Permission denied his end. Anyway to get around that and allow him to apply the damage to speed things up ?

    Love the videos, been playing with scripts and got me interested in re-learning JAVA again. One question, if you know, when using Pathfinder and the provided character sheets, can the Initiative bonus pulled from the sheet automatically and added to the scripts so when I select all the tokens, as a GM, I can roll everyone's initiative together? Again, thanks for the hard work and keep making videos!

    • @NickOlivo
      @NickOlivo  4 роки тому

      Thanks for the kind words! Yes, that should be possible, you'd just need to configure group init for use with the Pathfinder character sheet, which is defined here - wiki.roll20.net/Script:Group_Initiative#Configuring_for_Specific_Sheets

    I was wondering if you knew of a script similar to Token Name Number where you can indicate a monster's damage status with some text. For example:
    % is health remaining:
    100-80% - Scratched
    79-40% - Bloodied
    40-20% - Near Death
    Thanks again for all your hard work!

    For Group-Init , I had to modify the set up script to reflect my Character sheet.
    I use the 5e for roll20 and the Dex modifier uses the full name. So I was getting a +14 bonus to the roll because the script was actually using the Dex score and not the modifier.
    Instead of
    !group-init --del-group 1
    !group-init --add-group --Bare initiative_bonus|current
    !group-init --add-group --Bare npcd_dex_mod|current
    I had to use
    !group-init --del-group 1

    !group-init --add-group --Bare npcd_dexterity_mod|current

    • @NickOlivo
      @NickOlivo  4 роки тому

      When you drag a monster from the compendium, it should automatically use that monster's artwork on the token. If that's not happening for you, you might want to contact Roll20's support.

    • @JensDean23
      @JensDean23 4 роки тому

      Ah.. i figured it out. I was making my own manual in the journal for finding monsters easy. If i had a NPC named wolf, then when i drag out a Wolf from the MM, then the token is empty from artwork. If i remove it from the journal first, and then drag it out.. it works like a charm.

    Hi Nick, thank you for all the effort you put into making these video's I really appreciate it. I've run into a issue using the Numbered Tokens API script. The script works and numbers each token as I drag them onto the map but, when I go to apply damage it is applied to all tokens and not the attended target. Great video. I have a question concerning Token Name Number. How do I get each token to have different HP? I tried disconnecting it to the character sheet but I couldn't get it to work as a regular token. I could create new sheets but then that defeats the point of having the macro to number tokens I through on the table. Any thoughts?

    • @NickOlivo
      @NickOlivo  4 роки тому +1

      Sure thing - you can unlink just the HP - so in the Token's properties, set Bar 1 (or whichever bar is tied to the creature's HP) to None, and you should be good to go. I've actually got another video going live tomorrow night that'll show how to do that.

  • @seanriley8347

    Nick, I'm so grateful for your videos. I am using GroupDamage and I have a question I'm hoping you can answer. I play Pathfinder, and in that game, you can channel energy to heal in a burst. Right now, I use group damage, set a very high DC, and then add the HP as a negative number, when then adds to the HP bar. So, this is a step in the right direction for me. Is there a way I can convert the script so that it Automatically selects tokens in a burst around the token casting the spell? Essentially, player hits the ability and it selects characters around him, and then applies the HP to their bars? If you could even put me in the right direction, that would be helpful.

I'm not sure of a way to have the script auto select tokens adjacent to the selected token, but if you post over on the Roll20 API forums (app.roll20.net/forum/category/46806), someone there might be able to help you out. Greetings Nick. Great video and Im super stoked to get started using them. I have been having an issue with the save with damage string. For starters Im super new to Roll20 so as a veteran DM I am trying to make the experience of my players as fun and smooth as possible. So back to the issue, I get all the boxes to show up and calculate correctly, however it does not modify damage at all. Is this an API issue I am missing, A campain setting as I do have my bar values as Bar value 1: hp ,Bar Value 2: ac, Bar value 3 blank. Can you help me fix this because I love how you have it set up.

    Question in regards to TokenNameNumber, how do you get it so that each mook you pull out has it's own HP to track? Right now they're all tied to the same character sheet, so if I enter damage for one it gives that damage to all. I hope the answer isn't make duplicate sheets for them lol

    Your description is first rate, but there is something that isn't working in my live version. Firstly, I'm playing Call of Cthulhu, but I don't think that should change anything. When I created a bunch of 'bad guys' (Deep Ones, CoC versions of Lizard Men I guess), I get the tokens on the battle map no problem, and they add the digits no problem, but if I allocate damage to any single one of them, they ALL take the damage.
    Do you know what I've done wrong? It's like they are just clones of each other and not coming up as individual monsters.

    As nice as that numbered token api looks it seems like its more trouble than it's worth, especially if you're running a module.

    TokenNameNumber doesn't seem to work for me. I followed your instructions exactly, but each token I drag and drop is a copy of their default token not associated with the kobolds. For what it's worth I'm using the Dragons of Stormreck Isle module

    Not sure you'll see this but with the TokenNameNumber function how can I apply individual damage without the others Hit Points being deducted also.

      Sounds like you need to set the tokens up as mooks. I talk about that in this video -ua-cam.com/video/lOoW3LYHCuA/v-deo.html
