  • It's considered one of life's toughest decisions: Is it better for an elderly loved one to age in place or be cared for in a nursing home? What would you do? It's called the nursing home dilemma for a reason, and the already emotionally-charged decision has just become a lot more difficult. Filmmaker Michael Price exposes widening cracks in an already stressed and fractured elder care system.

Thank you for this. It was in a different state, but when we were looking for a place for my mother, it was horrible. First of all was the cost. Assisted living, $6000 a month. No one in our family had that kind of money. We had to apply for Medicaid, but that was a long, drawn out process. I toured some places with my mother, and she was mostly blank. She was a registered nurse, and had always said, from her younger days, to never ever put her in a home. She actually died while we were looking. I honestly think she chose to depart this world before being in a nursing home. My heart goes out to the elderly and their families.

I grew up on the westside on Jarboe, and Holly, back when there were projects there. It was always a tight knit Hispanic community. They kept the elders at home, I loved that.

Thank you to all the families and nursing staff that are willing to openly talk about the real problems we face with an aging population and how the government truly doesn’t care.

These horrible things happened in Anthology of Plaza assistant living. We even had homeless ppl spending the night inside the facility. Most of the employees are unprofessional. I'm happy to see the residents I used to love getting better care of. Sadly, the state does little to nothing to address the issues.

We need to be lobbying for better screening and training programs and wages. It is hard to trust the care of your loved one to strangers.

I experienced this firsthand with the care provided for my folks. It is real. Those who don’t believe this is real, have simply not experienced it yet firsthand. It is absolutely atrocious. Keep your folks at home for as long as possible.
