Yeah, it really is. I have seen other beat 'em ups pull off a higher price than normal, but they always had a lot of content to make up for it. This seems really barebones. I was going to pick it up on launch, but not at that price 😂
@@Scarhj This recent surge of ‘80s/‘90s themed retro-styled beatem ups are thanks to Shredder's Revenge (specifically the ones themed on Toxic Crusader, MMPR, GI Joe and this).

You're not wrong, but after Shredders Revenge it feels like the genre blew up even more with several properties from that era all getting beat em up games. Even those that I feel like would be better for other genres, like GI Joe.
I thought of picking this up for the nostalgia, but $40?! Plus most games i get for nostalgia end up being played for an hour and then sit til i get that urge again
Really like this game but would love to see someone do custom cover artwork with different cover art for the game and I would love to see a moder redo the cut scenes. Those are my only gripes about the game.

Those cut screens feel like they were for an alternate version of the game they were making. Definaely weren't for the pixel art version we got. That said, a side from the the cut screens, I really like the look of it. Reminds me very much of the arcade beat em ups. I can deal with the boring gameplay I'm not too fussed about how easy games are these days. I dunno man, sometimes I just want to chill out and turn my brain off now and just enjoy the ride.
The pixel art is amazing. Love it. And the controlls are great too. Doing the jump and holding the heavy attack button down and release feels real good. I think 25$ is a good selling price. I bought it on the switch for 40$ or whatever.
Looks good, but the animated sprites and backgrounds look so similar to TMNT Shredder's Revenge, and Toxic Adventure. Are they all drawn by the same developer or something?
I think this game looks pretty awesome! But, I would not pay $40 for this. A $30 price tag may have been a better move. Probably would sell better overall. I can see this selling really well when it goes on sale.
Man... everything you said, ( plus I just learned there was a parry from this video :| .) But on top of that you can't easily turn around in the middle of a fight. It's like the gameplay was half baked, they slapped some decent pixel art on it and promoted it. The trailers looked good, but these cutscenes weren't in the trailer far as I can remember lol🤣they didn't highlight that.
I was about to buy this game until I saw the cut scenes it looked like wii shovel wear And I just don’t want it , I can’t believe it’s 2024 and they still can’t do justice to this classic franchise
Those cutscenes really gave me a "Spanish for Everyone" type of vibe in a bad way. Incase you don't know what I'm talking about, Spanish for Everyone was a DS shovelware game by Gamemill and is just basically a crappy wordcross game only the cutscenes are super blizzare. And by blizzare, I mean a lot of racial insanity and a drug cartel in the plot.
Thats interesting about the focus being taken away instead of health. I beat it on easy and many times they would hit me and bot hurt me. I thought it was because i was on easy..... So your saying its like that on medium and hard too because it takes away focus and not health. I think thats a bad design. They xould have done it like tmnt shredders revenge. When you try and focus and get hit, it breaks the focus and still hurts you.
This somehow looks works than tmnt shredders revenge. Tmnt SR already had a bunch of issues if you play beat em ups hard core but this looks way worse. If you didn’t like tmnt SR probably don’t touch the knock offs that are coming out day one till some reviews say they’re good
I've been playing beat em ups for 35 years and this is lacking imho. Plays more so like a mobile touchscreen game rather than a retro styled beat em up
It’s already dead without online multiplayer. Shredder Revenge got online multiplayer. I’m ready for Dragon Ball Sparkling Zero early release to come out already.
There are better beat em ups for free on Open BOR. This game would've been impressive maybe 15 years ago, but all it does is mainly copy paste from other better beat em ups like scott pilgrim or tmnt.
@@fatherdom7619 barely copy pastes from those games. Its average at best doesn't do anything to make it memorable, could be any property pasted over these sprites and wouldnt really matter... The game will be forgotten in a week where stuff like Streets of Rage 4 and TMNT Shredders Revenge continue to be talked about and played.
Ridiculous pricing. The artwork sucks. Gameplay doesn't feel as smooth as double dragon or turtles shredder's revenge, but overall it's just ok. I only played the first level. The hitboxes seem a bit off too. Nice pixelart though.
Shame, really wanted this to be decent but it seems like a low effort attempt. I checked out the price anyway and it's £35!??? What the..? To me that just reinforced my impression that the game has been hastily thrown together as a cash grab, hoping it will sell on nostalgia alone. If I see it in a sale for sub £5 I'll maybe take a punt.
If this game surprised you, then you have low expectations of games. This is a $5.00 game at best. Looks like some studio was making an 8 bit fighting game and then someone said, HEY can you reskin this game to Karate kid... SUUUUURE! No Thanks.
