How low can you Stitch on Hats?

Not all hats are the same. Some Run better than others on the Melco Emt16X Embroidery Machines. But how low can you put a logo on a hat? In this episode, I talk about hat issues and what I have to do to get the logo in that perfect location on our customer's hats.

I use mostly Richardson-style 112 Trucker hats.

How low can you get on a Richardson 112?
3/4” to 5/8”, depending on the design on a Barudan Pro3. I also steam the front edge of the hat flat, gives the same effect of holding it down with a tool.

Richardson manufactures in 3 different countries. As close as we are to their product as embroidery shops you will eventually able to tell the difference between locations as you hoop and run hundreds of their hats.

I use a wooden chopstick to hold the hat down when I get close to the bill. Easier on the machine if theres contact.

I have a hard time doing anything lower then 1/2 inch.

Yes it’s very hard to go that low because of the hat and hoop type.

Hello! What needle size do you find works best for hats??

I use 3 different sizes depending on the design.
65/9 for small details
75/11 for most standard stuff
80/12 think hats with puff logos.

Steam the hat first and it will lay flat no tools needed
