Here are some fun facts about SHINee's "1 of 1" MV: "1 of 1" came out in 2016 and it is the title track on SHINee's 5th full length Korean album. SHINee debuted on May 25, 2008, (5/25). In this MV there were 25 girls. So, 5 members + 25 girls = 5/25. All the girls in this MV are models, so if you notice, they don't really dance, and most of the girls are taller than the SHINee members LOL -- but that's OK because it fits the theme of the MV well. In the '90s often the girls that were featured in the MVs were well known models and actresses, not backup dancers. The MV was supposed to have that slightly awkward, unpolished look and feel to it because it was part of the retro aesthetic. The quality of the video was on point with exactly how MVs were made in the '90s. Everything in this MV was done very deliberately to make it look and feel like it came straight out of the '90s. I can't remember which it was, but either the time stamp on the MV or the time stamp on the song is exactly 5:25 as well. As you can see, this MV and the whole album is meant to have a very retro '90s vibe. As someone who was a teenager in the '90s, I can attest to the fact that this is so perfect. Everything, from the look of the set with the all white background to the clothes everyone wore, to their dance moves, to the video editing and the sound of the song, was all '90s. They even released some of their albums on cassette tape as part of a limited collector's edition to further celebrate the '90s theme. It's amazing how every song SHINee releases is very unique and unlike any other, and yet, every time, no matter what, it always has that very SHINee feel. As the fashionista of the group, Key was the one who picked out the outfits and styled the members for this MV. :D Appreciate Minho with blond/gray hair while you can. ;D There has only been a handful of times in the past 13 years that Minho has ever dyed his hair any other color besides brown or auburn. And when he has, it doesn't stay that color for more than a few weeks. As you know, Minho is a lead actor in a lot of K-dramas and movies. So, one of the reasons why I think he doesn't dye his hair as often as other idols, is because of his acting roles. The majority of the roles that he plays are boy next door-type characters or historical dramas, etc. so he needs to look as average as he can. (Or, at least as average as a guy who was born with model good looks can anyway. LOL) Also, as others may have mentioned, Onew sprained his ankle in concert right before they started promoting for this album and he was unable to dance. That is why you saw him sitting down the whole time in the MV and why there are only 4 of them in the dance breaks. It was several weeks into promotions for this song before Onew was able to participate in the choreography. If you want to see all 5 of them dancing you will have to check out one of their last live comeback stage performances.
You should see the behind the scenes of SHINee filming "Get the Treasure". ua-cam.com/video/ZA08_86x3dY/v-deo.html. I think you might find it interesting to see what was actually real people who were made to freeze in the scene, what was real set pieces and mannequins and what was CGI. You would be surprised that some of those people who you see frozen were real actors who were rigged by wires to look like time had been stopped in mid air, etc. You also really need to see SHINee's live performance of "Get the Treasure," ua-cam.com/video/knVOkHC7pSM/v-deo.html from an SMTown concert in Japan. The choreography is so good live. Since SHINee's iconic "Odd Eye" Inkigayo comeback stage performance ua-cam.com/video/pPp9da0-Q_E/v-deo.html, I think Key has decided that an eye patch makes him look really cool, so he brought it back for "Get the Treasure." :D But also an eye patch makes sense in the storyline because SHINee are supposed to be thieves -- they are there to "get the treasure," which is the big diamond that Jonghyun takes from the glass case. (A diamond is SHINee's symbol, so they are stealing the treasure -- the diamond -- which represents the hearts of Shawols.) Fun fact: Pirates didn't just wear eye patches because they injured one of their eyes. But eye patches were more often worn by thieves who had perfect eyesight. An eye patch helps you to see better in the dark or in low light. If you shield your eyes from bright light, when you enter a dark room and remove the eye patch your eyes adjust more quickly to the dark. This allowed pirates and thieves to be able to see better and be able to get in and get out more quickly as they go from bright daylight to darkness of a low lit room or hull of a ship, etc. An eye patch is a more practical device then you might think. ;P And as we see in Taemin's MV "Criminal," Taemin has decided to borrow Key's eye patch as well. ;) We all know Taemin stole clothes from Key's closet while Key was in the military, so he must have taken the eye patch too. (LOL, just kidding. Key's eye patch is way different than the one Taemin wears for "Criminal.") Fun fact No.2: SHINee's lightstick is also shaped like a diamond, and when you hold it up to a solid surface you see that the reflection it makes is a 5 point star -- each point representing one of the members -- so that is one reason why you see them make the star shape on the floor as part of their chorography in this song. And it's also why you often see references to stars in things that SHINee does, because they SHINe(e) like shiny stars or sparkling diamonds. This was SHINee's 5th full length Japanese album and the album was named Five so that is just one of the numerous reasons why they say "This is SHINee 5" in the song. This song and album was promoted right after their "1 of 1" album which was their 5th full length Korean album. They pretty much follow every Korean comeback with an equal Japanese comeback. Sad fact, this was SHINee's last album with Jonghyun.
I have been absolutely loving these SHINeetember videos so much! I look forward to whenever you upload them. And yes, the rap breakdown in Get The Treasure is awesome, I lose my mind a little every time I hear it. And you best believe I yell out the 'This is SHINee five, and we're right by your side' line every damn time.
My second fave part in a row! I became a Shawol thanks to TMWTD in 2016 and it has stayed my favorite SHINee song ever since such a soulful and emotional vocally powerful song - exactly what I love about SHINee. 1 of 1 is a retro bop with SHINee releasing it in 2016 way ahead of the retro sound that is trending in Kpop now. And last but not least, both of the Japanese title tracks are some of the best, while Winter Wonderland is a perfect representation of how wonderful SHINee Japanese ballads are, Get The Treasure is one of their 'edgiest' Japanese tracks imo, and the MV is lots of fun.
Your reactions are always the best! I just love how you enjoy each music video in your own way and it makes me feel like I'm watching it to the first time with you! 😂 Excited to see more! 😁
To help explain what is happening in SHINee's "Tell Me What to Do" MV, the members are all playing a group of friends which also includes this girl. How I see the story is that they all have been friends with this girl for a very long time and Taemin has always been in love with her, but unfortunately, what you see is that she is in love with Minho and they are dating. However, Taemin is super jealous and his jealousy has gotten to the point where he can no longer hide his anger and disappointment -- that's why you see him acting kind of crazy and really angry. That's why you see him getting drunk and silently watching Minho and the girl with that seething, jealous look on his face. It is also why you see him crazily pick up that gun and wave it around like he is drunkenly joking with everyone and making bad choices. It's supposed to be about a group of teenagers/young 20-something guys hanging out together and partying in an abandoned warehouse or construction site, etc. You see them having fun riding around in the car together, but if you notice Taemin is sitting there jealously watching Minho and the girl and wishing it was him who she was in love with. I interpret the floating guns as a metaphor, where Taemin is surrendering to everything and he is struggling to figure out how to cope with all his feelings, etc. You see Minho and Taemin get in a fight and Minho is essentially saying, "Hey man, it's not my fault she is in love with me and not you ... you need to back off and get over yourself ... snap out of it ... what is wrong with you?", etc. Minho always writes his own rap sections in SHINee's songs, so the rap was given that flow for a very specific reason. it is meant to be completely different than the rest of the song because it represents the anger and frustration he is feeling at that moment. So the song is called "Tell Me What To Do" because the rest of the members are pretty much saying "Tell me what to do ... What should I do to fix this problems in our friendship and how do we go back to the way we used to be?", etc. It's a coming of age story about friendship and the things that can happen in someone's life that can cause a rift between friends. In the end, you see Taemin drop the lighter, and some say the lighter is what catches the car on fire and it symbolizes the end to their youthful innocence. But you also see Minho get in the car and it blows up. Some say Taemin is so jealous that he blows up the car and kills Minho. It's definitely a darker concept, but you shouldn't feel too sad, because at this point nothing had happened with SHINee yet and it doesn't really have anything to do with this MV. It's only after the fact, that we now can give the story a deeper meaning. The only saving grace to this story is that we know that SHINee is too much of a close-knit group to ever let something like this happen to them for real and, that in terms of SHINee, this story is so far from reality that this would never happen with their friendship. Once again this was a departure from anything we have ever seen from SHINee before, and it's unlike anything they have every done as a concept for an MV. But it was exactly sHINee-like in every way. You should really watch a video of SHINee performing this song live on Jonghyun's radio program called "Blue Night". The radio show was hosted by Jonghyun. He hosted the daily radio program for 3 years. During "Tell Me What to Do" promotions the other SHINee members were guests on the show and Jonghyun had to do double duty that night as both host and guest. You should really watch this clip ua-cam.com/video/ZuWJIZLPylE/v-deo.html. This was my favorite performance of "Tell Me What to Do," and not only are their vocals magnificent, but it also shows you a little glimpse into their goofy fun personalities as well. You should also check out a live performance of "Tell Me What to Do." Because, even though there is no dancing in the MV, this was one of their lead promotional tracks for this repackaged album, so they performed it on music programs and in concert. This choreography is so uniquely SHINee. I think you will fall even more in love with the song, once you see the full performance. :D
Thank you very much for your hard work. I also can't believe we already came to 10th video. Ofcourse I was here enjoying form the beginning and will do the same with the rest.
Winter Wonderland is one of my favorite song... Onew's voice... by the way I went to BJs in NY and to my surprise Onew's voice was playing... that song with Rose. First time I heard a Kpop song in English and in NY in front of a lot of people and I didn't cringe at all and everyone seem to love it too.
Oh yes! the crimes are back! Squatting, graffitting, arson, speeding, probably some illegal gun possession, and fighting. AND i'm not even counting Get The Treasure.
I highly recommend checking out Seventeen! They're having an October comeback, but their songs are amazing! They're most known for their choreography though, so I'd recommend checking out their songs Clap, Getting Closer, HOME;RUN or Thanks!

Hello, I hope you could react to Yang Yoseop's new MV Brain, released last Monday Sept 20, 2021. He is the main vocalist of the group Highlight (formerly Beast) debuted on 2009. He is really good and the song is amazing! Please check it out! Thank you 😊
