I was 14 back in 1996 I remember the 8 in a row especially gazza's solo run and his hat trick against Aberdeen to clinch the title.. those were the days.. R.I.P SIR WALTER AND JIMMY BELL .. WATP.. 🔴⚪🔵
Dave Dante exactly you only had 1 champion from each country. champions from France, Denmark, Belgium, Swiss, Greece, al sorts of small clubs and only 1 from Italy, Spain. Uefa cup had 2nd 3rd and 4th place teams. Which meant 3 teams from Italy, Germany, Spain. There was more bigger clubs in uefa cup
Remember the 3 foreigner rule applied back then, which did make it harder which made the gap between the bigger league teams and the rest a lot smaller compared to today. Plus remember no English club qualified for the Champions League through qualifying matches under the 3 foreigner rule. Arsenal, Leeds, Man Utd all failed. Rangers did it twice, 92/93 & 95/96. Only reason Man Utd 94/95 & Blackburn 95/95 were there was because thy did not have to play any qualifiers.
BA Brian Laudrup was also a dissapointment in Champions league. Brian was an incredible talent but was just not consistent enough. His mentality was rather poor
billyblackburn87 But remember he produced the goods in the big games for Denmark. It was a case of playing for a poor Rangers team at the time that relied far too much on him. Remember he was injured a lot and didn't even play/feature in a lot of European games e.g Juventus home and away, Gothenburg too.
Roberto mancini getting passed the cup off coisty at the start as captain of sampdoria. Thanks again davywilson21 for these great memories. City were shit back then so it was nice to see my other team sweeping all before them. Your a star.

I feel the excuses come out a bit when they talk about the European games
Dave Dante yes bburn were shite aswell. but the champions league was much easier back then. The uefa cup was probably harder
