We used to sing it (in English) at evening services at Westminster Central Hall Methodist Church when Dr William Lloyd Webber was our Choir Director and Organist - great memories of one of my favourite evening anthems. I was first bass.
To thee before the close of day, Creator of the world, we pray That, with thy wonted favour, thou Wouldst be our guard and keeper now. From all ill dreams defend our sight, From fears and terrors of the night; Withhold from us our ghostly foe, That spot of sin we may not know. O Father, that we ask be done, Through Jesus Christ, thine only Son, Who, with the Holy Ghost and thee, Doth live and reign eternally. Amen
Sung this in English the other week. Quite a funny story actually because we rehearsed it in Latin but the priest told us we were doing it in English about five minutes before the evensong began 😅

Somebody's just got to sing this in English one day
The Latin is perfect for it!
Can confirm - it sounds horrible 😂
