It can be great anytime from March to Oct. the best swell is SW, which fills in the bay with great swell. I was there March and Sept last year. Sept swell was amazing. March was small, but still unreal. Right now it is really good. I have a friend down there and he has had some epic days. Oddly, not much wind, but glassy swell for towing.
Great video and superb tips for what quiver to take!!. We are going this May, I have a similar setup (42L board, North MA1050, HA850 and HA1250, wings 3,5 + 5,0 sqm) and plan the same tow-foil mornings + wingfoil afternoons you did. Who did the towing for you? The same boat guys people use for surfing?
Hey Roberto! If you are comfortable using you 42L to wing, then you can just use that for tow foiling too. Wind is gusty with holes where you sometimes have to wait for a puff. I am not as good with my 30L unless I get a lot of consistent wind, so I use my 60L. For foils, I prefer to ride my Lift 150V2 (965cm) there for both towing and winging. It is a mid aspect wing that turns well. I have ridden my Lift 120HA (775cm), which is great but doesn’t turn over as nice as the 150. Chicama is all about riding that amazing wave and you will want to carve it up once you get your rhythm. For your quiver, it sounds like the 1050 and 850 would be good-- I am assuming you weigh less than 85kg??? The 1250 would help getting on foil for a light wind day, but I didn’t like riding my 200HA (1295 cm) on waves. It fights back too much. For wings, I took a 4 and 5m, but mostly use the 5m. I use the boat guys at the Chicama Boutique Hotel, where I always stay. Best place in town with great food. For winging, take caution on big days when you get a SW swell. It can be hard to get out, and there is a heavy current. On those days, we have the boats come into the shore, and we pump up the wings on the water outside the break. We keep the boats out there for emergencies but also to get back in. Last March, we didn’t need the boats for winging due to size and wind direction being more side off. Last September, we needed the boats as the swell was bigger and the wind was a little more offshore.

2nd trip there this year. If I went back and took only one quiver, it would be: 39L Armstrong Lift 150 V2 (mid aspect surf wing 965cm) Lift 26 Carve tail Lift fuse extender 5m Ozone Wasp V2 I would use that setup for both winging and tow foiling. I weigh 190lbs. However, I took my 60L Armstrong and winged with that mostly. I also had my Lift 120HA and Lift 200HA. The 200 gets you going, but fights back when trying to make aggressive turns on the wave. The 120 is great, but the 150 is better suited for surfing. I did very little pumping, but the 120 or 200 would make it a lot easier to connect waves.
Epic ride!
awesome riding! would you recommend September as the best time to go for wind and waves?

Hola. Estoy planeando ir para Chicama a principios de Mayo. Como está el viento en esa época y da para kite o sólo para wing foil? Gracias
Hola. Wing only at Chicama. Kite at Pacasmayo.
