The color appears Arctic white in the video but appears like a cream-colored ivory on the site. Ivory was a legitimate paint color back in those days. Just an observation. Great car either way!
Well, I can't get to that URL because Google has decided (in its infinite wisdom) that it doesn't have a security certificate ...so I need to be saved from myself?
So how do I purchase?
@@nlumby 1$10.00

He may regret selling it when he gets older
Very much so.
I regret selling our 85 and 84 tdt’s
I have an '83 240D with a stick-shift. Bought it just over a year ago. Had 363,000 & some miles on it, motor rebuilt at 197K. I put another 9,000 miles on it, and it starts right up like a gas engine. I love it. When I looked at it, I did a certain unique compression test I learned from Kent Bergsma of "Mercedes Source" which began with starting the motor, looking for any excess colored smoke, then turning the oil cap to the position to remove it without actually removing it. The oil cap stayed on and didn't even move. The car didn't just pass the test with flying colors, it aced it. No oil consumption either. So, I did not hesitate to buy the car, because it's a diamond. The previous owner owned it for 21 years and decided it was time to move on, exactly like this video host has now with his tremendous white 300D Turbo. No regrets about what I got, except sometimes, no power especially when climbing hills. I live in Washington State and have now driven it to Oregon twice already and once down into California. The highest posted speed limit on Interstate 5 is 70 mph. And where it's 70, that's how fast I drive it. I keep up with oil changes, valve adjustments, and maintaining low RPMs until the motor is completely warmed up.
He’s definitely going to regret it
@@piemasta93 He will definitely regret it. The 240D I talked about in my post right up above yours, I feel is a diamond. And that's what this guy has, a diamond. Sometimes I wish I'd chosen a 300D Turbo over my 240 because I'd have more power climbing hills, And I could drive it in states with speed limits higher than 70 mph because it would definitely fit in more. BUT I also have a 2011 Mustang that I could drive to those states. And the 240 has a little less to have to worry about.
The sound of the doors and trunk closing on that is so satisfying. Gotta love that German over engineering. No wonder people loved these cars. I think I heard that these cars have over 1 million miles on them, in places like Morocco.
Many taxis have several million km.
2,000,000,000 all over the world
Taxi of morocco
Best engine ever made mercedes 👌
I bought my W123 after watching your first video of this car. I love it. My kids look at me weird when I just gush about driving it. But I don’t think I’ll ever get rid of it. 1982 300D, best car money I ever spent.
@Brett Timmons .. Too funny! . My two girls call the W124 '94 E-Class Coupe "The Fritz" and get a kick how I luv the content of that Coupe. (purchased new by a deceased uncle) As far as I can remember my cars are long-term ownership Porsche sports cars. .. With the "engineered like no-other The Fritz" being outta step. Cheers, Vail, Colorado
So, forever = 2 1/2 years. Sounds about right for 2021.
He probably regrets selling it right now someone should email him to see if he admits it.
„Overdesigned with crazy shapes and angles“ Tommy, thank you for this statement!
I've had my 1983 300D turbo since 1991.
Every time I think about selling it, I meet someone at the gas pump saying: "I wish I had never sold mine". Then I drive it for another 50k miles.
306k miles, and it still purrs like brand new...
Sold my 240D about 15 years ago, and I do regret it.
buy this one 😁
😂. As you say, it was time to move on.
My father bought a 1983 300d, no turbo in 1984 in Germany from exc at Benz. Had it shipped to Houston. My dad’s name is stamped on the vin plate as name of importer. I own it today. Has 60000 miles on it. 4 speed. Still runs great.
We still have 1 of 2 W123. Both bought new. One was a wagon. The sedan we still have. No plans on parting with it. It's a fixture in our garage.
There wouldn't be many 1 owner W123's left in the world, that's quite amazing. I understand your sentiment.
I’m the second owner of a 1979 240D. I’m not selling mine either 😀
I have a one owner 230e. I'm growing tired of the shortage and expense of parts. Specialists are few and far between here in the UK so it gets expensive transporting it when there's a problem. It's not so much routine maintenance it's the Bosche K-jet injection system. I'm going to sell it soon.
Noooo!! Don't do it! I so regret selling mine. If your car was silver, I'd be bidding. Good luck, I'm sure it will bring a good price.
I regret selling my last w123! You'll get good money out of this one, but if you're anything like me - you won't care, and you'll wind up spending more money to have another one!
I have a lead on one, I could buy it for less than $2,000, not as nice as this one, though.....
I love the purring of this engine at low revs. Feels as soothing as a cat's.
I can’t believe the negative comments about Tommy. If you think him selling the car is a mistake go buy it yourself. I have emailed Tommy a few times and he always responds and is truly a nice guy. So stop insulting him he’s a real person who deserves human respect. I understand disagreement on selling but not personal insults.
Tommy, you're going to miss this one, Ill bet!
I'd love to own this MB, but the cost to have it shipped to my home in Canada would be the price of the car again, I'd imagine.
Somebody's going to own a great car.
Bought mine in 2009 after my tour in Afghanistan ( gift from me to me ). Back then , it had 188,000 km , now sitting at almost 450,000km. Sometime I want to sell it but I slap myself in the face and wake up ! 😉 There'll never be a car that is so well put toghether with a buller proof engine , ever made again. Nowadays , cars are made to last 10 - 15 years and then , they are not even worth fixing !
The odometers break if you reset the trip while driving. Only reset the trip when parked.
Another great example of German "engineering".
Tommy I like your enthusiasm and detail and honesty. Your Dad should be proud of you . He did a GREAT job raising and teaching you.
I just picked up a 1981 300d barn find non turbo, maroon red and power everything, Im fully gutting it and cleaning everything and am definetly making it my forever car. I already have explored the car and truck world and miss a lot of them but now this 300d is perfect for
I never thought this day would come. What a great car.
Don't get rid of it if you don't have to.
My first car 23 years ago was an old worn W123 300D wagon (non turbo) Still miss it sometimes.
As a hoarder, I don't sell stuff when I want something new.
Everything you buy from here on will be a substantial step down……….
But you’ll figure that out soon
👍
I would tend to agree, unless maybe he bought a w126 to replace it. I went from w123 to w126 and in most regards that was an upgrade! I'd like to try a w124 at some point...but I definitely will not be selling my w126. I'm still regretting selling my last w123!
@@AKJeeper W126 is also one of my dream cars. Two actually, C126 and one 300SDL.
Interested to hear about your bring a trailer experience.
We need more cars on Classics
Mercedessource made me love these cars - great series Tommy you’re a star ⭐️
Hey Tommy!! It’s likely you will regret selling that car, but I don’t say that as a bad thing. As we get older we all have a car or two or many that we have sold or traded over the years. It’s an awesome part of owning a collection of cars! You are doing well and just like the channel, there will be lots of cars that come and go in your stable, I’m sure. Not a bad thing, each one gives you more experience and memories, good and bad. I have 8 cars/trucks right now, 6 are classics, I built 3 of them from almost nothing, repowered and repainted (full colour change it was hot pink when I bought it) a 1949 Ford F1 pickup from a Chevy 350 and 700R4 to a Flathead V8, Supercharged, backed up by an A4OD transmission. I have had 54(?) classic vehicles to dat and will keep on. I have a 350 and 700R4 looking for a home right now. It is a nice powertrain, FOR a GM!!!
You are having fun and should continue to do so.
TFL bids...we hardly knew ya.
The fuel overflow line moving back and forth @2:42 is interesting. I've never seen one of these cars do that before.
+1. At 150K that W123 300 Turbo Diesel is a baby. .. Cheers, a W124 '94 E-Class Coupe owner. .. Vail, Colorado
Wish the industry would make cars like this again. Simple and built to last.
I wish I could tell you how much of my existence I waste being extremely sad about the fact those days are 100% gone forever.
I had to sell my W123 230 because I had no money to buy a catalyst for it. Germany raised the tax very high at that time. I regret selling my dark blue Baby until today. It was the most reliable car I had ever since.
Had a classmate with a 230 with the highly underpowered 4cyl gas engine with a 4 speed manual. It was one of those hodge podge grey market imports from the 80s with a marginally ok swapped instrument cluster. The speedo would stop at 55 and then instantly read 0 the moment you went over 55 and it had a hand written KM next to the mileage indicator. Ran well enough for driving in Hawaii but over a decade of neglect left it a rusty pile. :(
vacuum systems are usually due to old hoses/joints. 40 years old rubber will perish
Car has a celebrity factor now.
Omg that's waaaay quicker than what I expected. Wow. Impressive
My grandparents flew to Germany in 1985, bought a 300d (white with all black interior), toured Europe, and had it shipped to Ohio. They sold it in 95 much to my dismay!
Love the W series.
So essentially every standard wheelbase Mercedes-Benz sedan ever made?
Every Mercedes sedan chassis number starts with a W, ahaha. I guess you mean the W123 series...
Moving on to new things. Fair enough. But I own a 240D, and these cost next to nothing to maintain or insure. Why not keep it anyway?
Been watching your videos in hopes of owning one, want a long lasting trip car, When I get one I'm keeping it for life....good luck🙂🙂
This is the most beautiful and best engineeried automobile ever built.
They were born to run, not born to be wild..!!
Have you ever owned one?
Does this mean TFL Bids is done?
They removed it. Not enough interest probably.
What happened to tfl bids????
My great Aunt had one just like for 30 years with just 75000 miles on it. My family sold the car in 2012 for $5000
agree the best car ever!
Hi I was 12 when this was the car my parents could not afford. I am 53 and have a 500sec and W140 S500
but the car that really makes me smile is the car that makes me feel 12 all over again, MY 1982 . Non turbo
300D . Hello from Australia
That door sound.....
I’m holding out for Elliot Alvis’s w123 wagon...;)
I bought My w123 when I saw your first video of it
In the time of this car it is the sound of a taxi in Germany , everybody remembers this nice sound. When you open the trunk it doesnt quiek , whats wrong with the car 😀, cause normale it makes a little quick when you open and close it from the springs
I owned two 240Ds and a 300SD over a 17 year period. I've made it to the age where my hands can't work on cars anymore, so I sold the 300SD a couple of years ago. There will never be another car with the build quality and character of the old MB diesels, and I think this guy's reason for moving on is lame. He'll probably be browsing CL for an MB diesel a year or two from now.
He's a UA-cam content creator. They have to own different cars in order to make new content. Just the way it is.
I love how it sounds
9:26 it was "kaputt". Lol, as a german i never heard an english speaking person saying that. I own a W123 as well btw.
Next week: the wife I thought I’d never get bored of 😂
Next week: Tommy gets a job as a used car salesman!
I've had 5, currently have 2. I'd like to keep them the rest of my life. There is nothing more satisfying to own.
what happened to TFL bids?
I was just about to ask this. Enjoyed browsing that platform
They said they had their fun with it but couldn't get the site to take off. Not enough people were bidding and it was making it a hassle to keep it alive. They regret nothing but were also ready to move on.
We gave it a shot but never took off
@@TFLclassics was there a video I missed talking about this? I enjoyed browsing the vehicles on there.
Please replace it with an e28!!
They are just as amazing, and super engaging to drive!!!
I have owned many, currently considering either W123 300D exactly similar to yours, or a W124 300E. Decisions, decisions. I am retired and want comfort & space, not speed. These cars can do 6,25l/100 which is 16km/l!
No more TFL Bids?
Awesome car. Sad to see it go. Good luck with the sale.
Dream car.
Did you crank up the Bosch pump? , with just turning one screw you could almost double horsepower, not quite double but it rews higher and gives much more power
That’s the altitude adjustment (ALDA)
All the way out, then 2.5 turns clockwise to set it to the factory spec
If it hasn’t been touched, 2.5 turns CCW will “max out” the adjustment on the pump.
If you want real power you can get a built injection pump from someone like Rodney at BenzForce
No f$@ way. That's the best Mercedes ever made and, let's be honest here, that's ur most reliable car 😁
even if I wanted to sell mine... I just couldn't..... when I bought it my dad use to love riding in the passenger seat in his old age... and it is the same car i gave him his last ride to the hospital right before he passed.
I own a 1984 and 1985 CA 300D, bought in 2001 and 2008. Not a superfan, I bought the 1984 for its engine to replace the failed engine in the 1985 but fixed the 1984 easily (crack in K-frame) and found a good used engine for the 1985. For those in California, try filling with renewable diesel (Propel or Union 76) as the engine will run much better and idle smoother and quieter, and no you don't need a fuel-heater conversion, as those work in any diesel engine. The best things are the solid way the doors close and the independent rear suspension which lets the car handle amazingly on twisty roads, if used to older U.S. cars with a straight rear axle. I thought the dash and console a bit clumsy but see they continued that in later models (even 2000+?). I have no trouble accelerating to freeway speeds. Perhaps the biggest surprise was the mediocre mileage. Many have long claimed >30 mpg, but EPA is 19 hwy and most owners report 22 mpg at 65 mph, matching what I get. The 1985 has a slightly higher rear-end ratio for a slight improvement, but the engine still spins too fast ~3000 rpm at 65 mph. Seems they could have done better with 4 gears. First gear is way too low so almost wasted. The trim is stainless steel, like some 1960's U.S. cars, so should last forever if not dinged, and you can polish it back to like new. I don't think the crazed paint at the lower quarter panels indicates rust, as mine have that and they are rust-free. I think there is some type of factory rubber/plastic coating there which was painted over. Someone could tell with a paint thickness gage.
Debating on buying a 240D. I have an R129 that I love and work on myself. But I want a daily with old Mercedes charm.
What happen to the Porsche?
Would have thought you were going to choose cars and bids
if i did live in the US i had buy that MB right away! Love it
I'd own a classic Mercedes-Benz like this over their new stuff that is all about appearance and high tech gadgets with questionable reliability. Yeah, this car may not hit the mark on what modern buyers want, or meet modern safety standards, but it says something when you see these cars in daily use around the world as private cars and taxis. From a time when MB meant over-engineered quality that was made to last.
Don't let it go.....😨
I owned a W123SERIES Mercedes-Benz 280 E , I bought it when I was 19 years old will never ever sell it . I am 57 years old ! Bought it in 1984
You've had a MUCH better experience with yours than I had with both of mine. I was happy to get rid of the ones I owned.
@@wholeNwonWhich engine your’s had?
Just the other day, there was a guy on Legit Street Cars crying because he had to sell his 190e Cosworth due to a bad leg that stopped him from diving stick. Think it through, man.
If you like the w123 but are a little bored get a 560sl. It will feel familiar yet exciting.
If only I could get a decent mechanic to look at my 123 I would put it back on the road. Right now it’s stored in my garage. I’m thinking it needs a rebuild but not sure. Wish I could get the one you’re selling.
Nearly impossible to get qualified hands on w123's, 124's, or 126's these days.
If you can manage the time & patience to be able to do as much as you can, you already know NO ONE will ever love it or care as much about it as you.
I have a C207 chassis myself, & although I won't pretend it's a true Benz, I'm getting my wrenching practice in with the hopes of going back in time asap.
The K-jet fuel injection is a nightmare to get someone who knows about it. Which is surprising as it was used by so many other cars, porsche, volvo, vw etc. When it wears technicians just want to swop expensive rebuilt parts when what's needed is adjustment.
You'll regret it a hell of a lot sooner than 20 years.
Picked one up for $1100 and man. Best money I’ve ever spent
This car is very popular in Morocco model 240 and 300 and is used as a taxi between cities
Selling this car will haunt you forever. Don't do it.
they start in second to start in first you put it in low then in drive
Very cool old car!
If it’s the best car in the world just keep it. I am sure you can afford it.
A W123 300 Turbo Diesel is a Road Trip car unlike no other. .. Keep it, you'll be sorry.
Or,,, move up to the W124 300 Turbo Diesel sedan ...
I love how that engine sounds. Idk if I would say it's the best car ever created but, I also fail to come up with a valid alternative. Nice review.
I could never bring myself to part with a car like that, especially not in that beautiful condition. You literally let automotive perfection slip through your hands, just because you want to experience new things and see what the carmakers come up with. You will regret it.
jeep boy has a car payment for his new toy and is going to sacrifice the smoke bomb
Built like a German Panzer (Tank).
Why haven't you guys found sponsored detailer supplies for the TFL fleet?
There's no way I would show these cars without a sweet detail.
🤔You could do before and after videos, as that's more TFL content. 😉
Along with the simple antenna fix, (or maybe not talk about it) you should be making better sales presentations, when offering these autos up for sale.
No worries, your still our favorite tech guys⚡🤓😎👍🏻
What happened to TFL BIDS??

True that
I sold mine and I regret it.
Ok. Ill buy it. Must be protected.
The last true Mercedes
If Family guy is right a persian guy will probably buy it.
Wish I could afford it.
Did he actually say why he is selling it? Did I miss that?
Nobody makes cars like this any more, certainly not Mercedes. My experience with them is such that I’d not buy one built after 1995. Same with BMW. The quality years are behind them.
@Land Hopper.. +1. Agreed, no question MB made a hard time of it .. as the market paradigm shift brought on by Toyota/Lexus in the early 1990's. . Some say MB never recovered? ..
Cheer's, a '94 W124 E-Class coupe owner.
The worst decision you will probably ever make.
You will be sorry. It doesn't cost much to keep. Just drive it intermittently until you come to your senses.
Did I miss something. Why are you selling it? Re: Title
Wants something different.
To sell it is sad. - Greetings fom Cologne, Germany.
Great 👌 !. I wanna have one , here I am !..
Beautiful car
You should sold it on cars and bids
