Our hearts have hardened so much towards our brothers and sisters! How one can ignore Emi pouring her heart out and be unfazed is beyond my comprehension. Granted she got a standing ovation which she well deserved, but based on the lack of emotion shown on the crowds face it appears to be just for show. Most of us have been privileged enough to not be exposed to the reality that others in the Middle East have lived in. However that is no excuse to ignore their cries as if they don't exist. If you aren't willing to be part of the solution, perhaps you are part of the problem.

Is the lady in green Ms Irina Bokova, Director-General of the UNESCO? I wish she had paid more attention to the poem, instead of being caught on tape reading and signing documents. Emi Mahmoud bared her soul, describing the horrors of a genocide she escaped, doing art with words. She deserves better...

These must be some important documents, and the other one in her back grabs his phone. I'm speechless

What gets me is that these people aren't even listening. They aren't even paying attention to her story that so many of them have taken party in creating and allowing to happen.

Savano Wise that’s the dark truth, people don’t care until it’s happening to them.

I am Darfurian young man from the same region as EMI, I am one of the millions of war survivors of Darfur. I have been prohibited from my country, Education, health etc. I left Darfur when I was a child of an 8-year-old boy. I lived in a refugee camp in Goz Amer eastern Chad for 14 years and finally, I got to the USA in 2017. I continued my education and now finishing my associate's degree in science. Now I am transferring to the Colorado University of Medical to get my bachelor's in radiation therapy. I never tried to give up of my childhood dream although I was prohibited by sudanese government. Thank you United Nations, human rights organizations, and any aspect that helps refugees and overall immigrants around the world.
