One of the great movies of our time. My first husband (ex-husband) bore a stunning resemblance to Billy Connolly and I always thought that they were beautifully handsome men! After my second husband's sudden death, I understood the depths of Queen Victoria's pain. Maybe that's why this movie is so dear to me.
Thanks. Well I would love push this conversation to a more comfortable and private medium so I've time to know more about your personality and have series of lovely discussions with you dear so if you don't mind can you send me your Google Hangout address so I can add you up
To be fair, she was a controlling mother to her family and spiteful when she wished to be and they in turn with her. It was a rather dysfunctional family dynamic. Just like those people with an unhappy family life, she found friendship and warmth outside that circle.
Abdul loved her so much...Victoria& Abdul brought me here(we'll that and the algorithm in UA-cam suggested it for me lol) Looking forward to seeing and loving this movie as well...Can't wait til it comes out in the theaters!!!! 😉 Anybody know??? The Trailer didn't say...and WOWZA Dame Judi Ranch looks so young!! She must have spent hours in the Makeup And Prosthetics Chair. BRAVO!!! I can not wait to go see it!!!
I have seen it, I thnk it is a GREAT FIlm. I thought Conolly was just a Comedian, but that guy can ACT, he was perfect in the role. He can "Carry the Mail" as we say. BB
Connolly claimed Judi had him howling with laughter with her quips and banter, like no other person that he had ever known. Quite extraordinary, but true.Very clever and talented lady.
Tony Rennell's book Last Days of Glory: The Death of Queen Victoria reveals that Victoria had entrusted detailed instructions about her burial to her doctor, Sir James Reid (Brown died in 1883: the Queen's wish was for him to attend to her). These included a list of the keepsakes and mementoes, photographs and trinkets to be placed in the coffin with her: along with Albert's dressing gown and a plaster cast of his hand, the Queen was buried with a lock of Brown's hair, his photograph, Brown's mother's wedding ring, given to her by Brown, along with several of his letters. The photograph, wrapped in white tissue paper, was placed in her left hand, with flowers arranged to hide it from view. She wore the ring on the third finger of her right hand.
I've had a hankering to see it for like a week but can't find it streaming anywhere except Amazon Prime (for $3.99), but I already subscribe to that, Netflix, hulu and UA-cam Premium, so I guess I'll wait 'til someone picks it up again (or I find some dodgy off-shore website). It was on Netflix a few years ago and I watched it two or three times in a row. Fantastic film.
Not even a photo of Albert Coburg in her coffin. Lol if she was in love with Albert Coburg why not a photo of him? . In the main coffin and in Queen Victoria's hand is the LOVE of HER LIFE JOHN BROWN'S PHOTO, her veil is halfway, and the bouquet of flowers wow the scene shows Queen Victoria married John Brown
@@maesapolu1832 First its prince albert of saxony-coburg and gotha and prince consort of the united kingdom Secondly she was buried with her wedding veil.
Antony Sher was terrific as Disraeli. Three great performances in one film. My favorite scene is where Mr. Brown subtly assists HM in setting the dinner table at the ghillie's humble cottage.
King Alexander John Brown Tui Manu'a Fonoti Tafa'ifa le Tupu o Samoa the Indigenous Lion King is a well educated sea navigator. Lol when he corrected the arrogant and stupid son
With Dench's second round as Victoria about to drop in the next couple of days, I just bought the DVD of "Mrs. Brown" to tide me over because, in my case, _Victoria and Abdul_ will have to wait till it's in captioned disc version too. :( Like Helen Mirren, Dench has waited too long for a leading role Oscar, and let's hope this time's the charm. The long and short of it is, what Bette Davis, Glenda Jackson and, more recently, Cate Blanchett contributed to suggestions of the living Elizabeth I, Dench, all alone, does for Victoria.
The Platonic romance or friendship between her and the rural Scot, who is the very definition of a true male human being, is very well and without scandal depicted; and since the two actors are quite good appear to be very creditable; as well as her annoying family and the chattering classes, including the prime minister Disraeli, though the story is fixed on the Queen and Monsieur Brown. No undying masterwork like Akira Kurosawa’s Ran but still a great movie.
'Are you deaf as well as stupid?' lol Mr. Brown had good grounds to talk to the Prince of Wales like that- he never comported himself well like his father; he was a womanizer who preferred to party until the Queen died, even after that, he still kept mistresses
Bertie (the Prince of Wales) was a warmhearted human being, which was more than his bloody holier-than-thou father was. Bertie went in for all the good things of life on such a grand scale simply because his father was such a boring old prude. It's simple human psychology. And when King, he was known as "the Peacemaker" and "Good old Teddy". He was a good king and a kind, warmhearted human being and as such, he was greatly loved by the people.
Immediately after he became king he destroyed John Brown's busts statutes painting, the huge statue of John Brown in front of Balmoral in Scotland was removed miles away, left under a tree. Why? John Brown is his biological father. Prince Albert is only an adopted father... imitation, counterfeit and stealing everything Brown except the title "King" King Alexander John Brown Tui Manu'a
Just now watching this movie never seen it but a young Gerard Butler is in it and he is running naked in the ocean .. you know I will be buying this movie .. lol 😉😍😎

It seems Queen Victoria needed a man to lean on at all times..Even tho she was a strong woman and Queen..She needed a man by her side in some way or another..Albert was her rock, and when he passed she was never the same..Going back before Albert in her life, she leaned on Lord M..In fact she loved him, but of course it wasn't meant to be..When Albert came into her young life, everything changed..They were best friends and lovers forever until that sad day when he died, part of her died with him..Now in this part of her life she finds Mr. Brown, he was close with Albert, and now with Queen Victoria..This was her way to have a little piece back with Albert, to her it gave her comfort..Then she moved onto to another man in her life Abdul, she always seemed to need or want a man by her side and to lean on..Very interesting woman Queen Victoria was..With everything in her life, I find her to be a interesting person.. I find I want to know more about her life..Like Paul McCartney's song: 'The Queen is a pretty nice girl-----
D D : Victoria was no different from other monarchs or other high-ranking nobles in her desire for romantic companionship. Her upbringing was very isolated and lonesome. She was clearly a “people person” and a romantic. She also had high intellectual curiosity and interests in other cultures. These men filled her needs for emotional intimacy and feeling less alone. There’s no harm in that.
The Scottish Highlander is Queen Victoria's truest and beloved husband. why not call the movie "Mrs Coburg" ? Lol. She is truly Mrs. Brown in real life.
Well, Madame Judi Dench certainly had found a way to remain on the stage, even after her beauty has waned, which actresses seldom achieve and are bound to play supportive roles mostly; but since many famous women lived past their bloom of beauty it is a field to be explored; as for the story: The true cause of Victoria’s suffering was of course the Merovingian syndrome! One day she found out that she is only Queen in name and that the prime ministers hold sway in the realm.
Harvey Weinstein (Miramax Films) distributed this film in the USA in 1997, and netted well-deserved Oscar nominations for Judi Dench (Best Actress) and Best Makeup.
20 years later she is still Victoria in another movie. Great selection.

More than fun!!!!!!
Cheeky! Perhaps🤔, dare I say, even a bit of naughty fun! Pip pip cheerio🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦
John Brown and Abdul Karim 2 men who were wonderful friends to her while her family wanted to control her

Best Judi Dench's interpretation. Another evidence Americans understand little about cinema. She deserved the Oscar. No comment
an oscar?? really that shallow
But wee yanks do agree!
No comment? But u just did
To be fair, a lot of Americans don't believe the Academy understands much about cinema.
Actually the British are the ones who don’t understand cinema. Judi Dench is a stage actress at heart.
Absolutely loved this film. Watched it without knowing anything about it. Huge Billy Connolly fan!

Thanks a million for that invaluable input. I am writing a short piece on this film for the university paper. Kudos 👌
I bet her and John brown had a marriage acknowledged by the parties involved only
So she wore two wedding rings? ONE ON THE LEFT HAND / ALBERT AND ONE ON RIGHT? VERY SUSPICIOUS

This is a wonderful film. If you haven't seen it, do.
Lift your foot woman LOL the look on her face when he said that
Makes me laugh every time I hear it.
Is that a comfort of a husband to call her "woman"
The funniest part was when Brown corrected the prince's English: "Do you know WHOM you address?"
yes excellent stuff :-D

Billy is a better actor than comedian, he's fantastic
A truly magnificent film , well cast , a real joy to watch
Frr
Since her young life she had been a Queen and along came Mr Brown. He showed her how to be a woman something she had never been able to be.
So after this is Victoria and Abdul. Cool.
