    Sitaram. Gist of Day-3 Lecture:
Before Ramayana, there was no other literature that was existent. In such a literature, there has been no differentiation found w.r.t trees, animals or humans. The interesting stuff here is that this literature is not any philosophical text which preaches no differentiation between the beings. This literature is one which reflects society. Ramayana is known as the "Aadikavya" (first literature) and Valmiki the "Adikavi" (first poet) which means that there was no other literature before this.
    Why Valmiki is the Adikavi?
    1. Valmiki was the first person to exploit the digit "0". He went up to 10 exponents 55.
    2. Valmiki was the first one to talk about the rain cycle for 9 months comparing it to a pregnant mother (navamasadritam garbham
    3. Valmiki was the first person to say the moon gains the brightness from the sun.
    4. Valmiki was the first person to say that waves rise from the ocean due to wind.
Few points from the above, though found in Vedas, was first put in a rational language by Valmiki
There wasn't a city as urbanised as Lanka 6000 years back. Due to these reasons, James Mill (drawing inference from Ussher's chronology) termed Ramayana to be mythology just because he believed there was no world at that time. He was the first person to term Ramayana as mythology.
Contrastingly, archeology (the scientific substance) proves the existence of Harappa, Mohenjodaro and Saraswati Civilisation which is dated 3000 BCE. All these disprove the rational explanation that Miller cites.
Ramayana has the reference for Marine Engineering (Setu Bandhanam), Highway construction, tree transplantation (Bharata leading the Ayodhya people to meet Rama at Chitrakuta)
Indonesia bearing the second largest Muslim population, regards Rama to be a hero and is celebrated as historical. Akbar also regarded Rama to be historical and not mythical.
Let us take the inspiration that other religions have drawn from Ramayana:
Buddhism - Buddha in his Tripitaka (the holy book of Buddhists) starts explaining the principle of "Anityam - transitory nature" the philosophy based on which the entire Buddhism was built on by quoting the sloka from Valmiki Ramayana - yata kashtam cha kashtam cha.
Jainism - many tapas mentioned in Valmiki Ramayana were followed by Jain even centuries later.
Now, coming to our Sanatana Dharma, every sect is covered:
    a) Vaishnavites - Reference of Vishnu as Chathurbhuja
    b) Shaivaites- First literature to mention about Skanda (Muruga)
    c) Gaudiya- The goosebumps, bhakthi (romancham) of Bharatha
There is no reference of human divisions, divisions between plants/dogs no differentiation of any living being irrespective of whether it is a human or otherwise. This is a yoga danam of Valmiki.
Harari in his work Sapiens refers to the same philosophy as above and further states that the divisions were developed in the human psyche much much later.
The notion of the humans being more civilised than the tribal man or greater than animals is not true.
According to Harari, the tribal man was more healthier, happier and this is a scientific fact.
The Tamil word, "kaatu mirandi" synonymous to the English word, "barbarian" was non-existent 300 years before in the Tamil language itself. This is a typical European mindset to use terms like barbarian. We should stop using this word in the future.
There are various research papers to prove that Monkeys have empathy, bees have empathy, lion growing a deer, cow giving milk to a calf who has lost its mother, dog being so greateful and helpful. Here Rama take the story of dove equivalent to Vedas. What more pramanam do we need to establish that there were no differentiation amongst the living beings.
Many poets have take Valmiki to be an inspiration. All the above prove that Valmiki is the Aadikavi and Ramayana to be an Aadikavya.
Sharanagathi is done through body language, by heart and by mouth.
Sharanagathi in its essence is Rama being with us and we being with Rama. As simple as that. If a Kshatriya does not give Abhaya to the one seeking refuge, he loses his strength, valour and everything.
The Chrama Shloka of Valmiki Ramayanam is a Siddhanta in itself. A Siddhanta generally has an opening remark, narration, thesis, case study, innovation and conclusion. Mitrabhaavena Sampraptam is the upodhgatham - talking about that person who approaches me with friendship, I will not leave him. The examples of no one can be Bharata, the dove story are all the case study here.
Delving deep, when Vibhishana comes and wants to surrender himself to Rama, many rational questions can arise - such as is he good or bad, is he an enemy or non-enemy, is he a friend or not a friend?
Similarly, Vibhishana could have had lot of questions - how can he leave Lanka - his wealth, riches, family, friends and come to Rama? Will Rama win or lose? Will they accept me or reject me? He has stood by there against his family itself like the Krishna Paramatma.
At that kshana, the very second, with that Prathiba (intuition) the spoorthy, through the inner Rama Chandra Prabhu residing in the chaitanya of Vibhishana, made him reach the banks of the ocean where the Rama Chandra Prabhu was manifest.
    Awaiting the finale episodes, Sitaram.
